Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I'd be interested to see what people are basing their opinions of Ash Taylor on? Like what specific games have people watched him play?

Not to measure dicks or anything, just to see if we all have the same information.
I'd say I've seen at least 2/3's of his NYC games, so based on that.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Most impressive thing about Taylor is his vision. Some of the good plays you see from juniors are basically evidence of them being a strong ball runner which doesn't always translate too well against men.

But everything that impresses about Taylor is organising and vision. Sure, he'll get less chances at the top level but I feel vision will translate between grades much better than if you dominate because of physical gifts and running the ball.

There's no one game that Taylor displayed this but his finals performance against the Knights last year was IMO his best game for us.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

If he wants to take a bit of extra coin in 2017 instead of staying loyal to the club that's stuck with him through several major injuries, then it will be good riddance.

He doesn't come across as some money hungry kid though, so we'll see.

He'll be 22 in 2017. We know NRL is now all about dosh rather than loyalty which has been debated on these boards many times, so one question becomes exactly how much will "a bit of extra coin" be in 2 years time IF Taylor lives up to the class he showing now in the "junior" grades.

Interestingly, the Broncos website has him as a FB as well as a half and 5/8.

We now seem to be a club also of quality FB's, as well as halves it seems.

Vision and organizing is what makes a player great, especially in the halves (and hooker). Langer, Lockyer, Walters ....

For mine, it is also what Milford needs to show more of as he progresses through this season.

I hope Taylor stays loyal to the Broncos rather than coin, but then, where and when will he get a go in 1st grade?

That is exactly why I am so keen on him. He's not the trick pony type that gets wraps and highlights reels with fancy moments, albeit he has those as well.
He's shown a level of control, organisation and maturity I have seldom seen in FG halfbacks. He is a pure bred halfback imo, even if he still has ways to go.
Sure, his defense still requires work, and he hasn't played at the highest level is unproven and all that, but his skills translate to any grade imo, and more importantly, are the skills our FG side lacks, regardless of how talented our current halves are.

Maybe I am too keen, maybe it's too early, but he's one of those guys we can't afford to loose imo, unlike Norman (seriously, it is almost insulting to compare them).

Well, when talking about retaining our young talent, Bennett said recently as I posted, we won't make the same mistake of losing it (speaking of Norman I think, lol) so it will be most interesting to see what happens with Taylor's future - here or elsewhere.

It may not be about extra money for him ... It may simply be about getting an opportunity at first grade.

And with Boyd, Milford and Hunt here, he may think it is necessary if he wants to play first grade.

Hunt turned down several offers back when he was stuck behind multiple halves. That's the difference between the loyal "Broncos for life" players, and the Corey Norman type players.

I hope he stays, and I'm reasonably confident he will.

Hunt is a rarity in todays game, loyalty is dead ... besides he was stuck behind Peter Wallace.

I think getting stuck behind Milford and Hunt is a bit different to that.

It will take some convincing by Bennett to make Taylor believe he has a future here, and not just as an injury/origin relief player

That's ridiculous, why does it have to be extra money? If he isn't getting a shot here and someone else has a opening why would he stay.

How long should he stay 'loyal?' play ISC till he's 30 just because the Broncos signed him at 13. He might never go past Milford or Hunt.

Who said he had to wait until he's 30?.. He's literally 20 years old, if he doesn't want to wait a couple of years (Which 90% of young up and coming players do these days), then so be it, I hope he has a great career playing for some shitty NSW team.

Wayne will make the correct decision in regards to the future of the club, if that means re-signing Taylor, he'll do it.

Hunt was never behind two young players that had over 10 years in front of them. If the best the Broncos can offer is three games during Origin behind the two Queensland halves in the future then Taylor is right to move on and have a go somewhere else.

Do you think Milford should have been a Raider for life no matter what?

When do you deem loyalty can end?

How is the Milford scenario even mildly similar to the one we're in? Milford wasn't behind anyone at the Raiders, they were literally willing to throw him into any position in the spine and pay him every cent they had to stay, and he still left, because they're junk.

Taylor is good, but not even in the same ballpark as Milford at the same age, and with the amount of injuries and lack of experience Ashley has, if a club is willing to give him more money than us and offer him a guaranteed starting role, good on them, I wish him luck.

I don't understand... where is this couple of years coming from, given Hunt's and Milford's ages?

After he's actually played some games..? You said earlier that he's played 30 something games for our Under 20 team, and now all of a sudden people are in tears about him potentially leaving because he's unable to get a spot in our NRL squad?.. What a joke rofl, how about the kid gets healthy and has a year or two in the ISC before we are willing to tear apart our team just to try and fit him in.

Boyd's contract ends in 2017, if he's not playing to the standard we need at Fullback, Milford to Fullback, Taylor into the Halves.

stop deluding yourself ... as long as Wayne Bennett is coach of the Broncos, Darius Boyd will be the Broncos fullback.

and if we are going to wait 3 years to determine whether Boyd should be fullback and Milford 6 ... then we are effectively wasting 3 years. you can't tell me Bennett needs 3 years to find out if Boyd at fullback and Milford at 5/8 is whats best for the team.
