Last night was far from great, but I do think it showed one important thing, and that is that this side was probably not quite as bad as Seibold and his reign made it look.

I'd say if we'd made the call a month or 6 weeks earlier we'd still likely be a bottom four side, but at least I think we'd have showed a better class of performance and perhaps avoided some of those horrific scorelines. Who knows, we might even have jagged another win or two and we'd be clear of the spoon by now.

It's not a huge improvement, but I think it does show how toxic things can get when the wrong person in charge is left to his own devices for too long.

What do you think of Riki's future mate?

I think he’s got a good future or us. Good kid.
Works hard, does all the little things right.

I think Piakura, if we can hang on to him, and Riki are going to be a pretty solid pair of weapons for us in the future.

I still think Bullemore is going to be the one that surprises most.

Let’s hope so because Bullemor hasn’t really impressed thus far.

Improved effort in defence from our lads. Whether the Panther were abit lethargic from the short turn around or were just going through the motions still a better showing from the Broncs.
Crucial turnover from the captain, gifted them the field position and points to let Panthers finish that 1st half in the lead. Otherwise our 1st half was solid yet again.

Funny no one mentions Dearden having a shocker apart from that Riki short ball.
His not so strong kicks were always easily caught on the full by Edwards. His failed arm grab on Luai created uncertainty and produced the 1st try. Was run over on more than a few occasions and in attack just needed to pass the ball more quicker to the outside instead of holding on to the ball a bit too long.
After the games I've witnessed, the comparisons to Langer or Lockyer are just far fetched. IMO he's in the DCE mould, always scheming, always busy ball player with a solid kicking game but weaker boot.
Definitely worth persisting with but shouldn't be shoo-in if Croft or SOS can adequately cover his deficiencies or if he derps it on the regular.

Our halves were put under huge pressure by our lack of go forward. Dearden is 19. Although 7 missed tackles is not a good look, in the context of us being under so much pressure, largely self imposed, you can't expect a 19 year old half back to do much more.

Unlike others who deny that the players around our halves make a difference, I reckon they do. His pass to Riki was a gem (as was Riki's run to get him into position to take it). Dearden for mine is our number one half by a country mile.

I don't know that Bullemore will surprise too many people on these forums. The guys on here who watch a lot of Queensland Cup have been very glowing on him for a while now and I'd guess there are more than a few of us excited to see him get more game time.

I hope that if/when we can string more than two games together with the same set of Backrowers a lot of the poor defensive efforts from our Halves will abate somewhat.

Fittler and Johns discussed Dearden the other day and Johns said he felt Dearden wasn’t an organising half. Fittler said he loved that Tommy is always at you, you have to constantly be on your guard. Totally agree with Fittler.

You can tell Dearden is an organising half, it's just hard to do it effectively when getting dominated so badly in the field position battle and he will learn from this.

What do you think Bullemore's best position in first grade is? I know he came through on the edge, but is he maybe a lock in the mould of Cameron Murray?

100%.
I actually think if we play Dearden with Milford in those Warriors and Manly and perhaps even Tigers games we win. (Tigers because Croft was at his most despicable in this game, he let in 3 or so tries single handedly, I mean he didn't actually use his hands to make a tackle, but you get the drift). Coupled with a basic form of defence - I felt last night the wingers were at times staying on their wing (gasp). Even in that Staggs/Dearden mix up for the Sauce try Kennar tried to stay on his winger as long as possible.

Good on Riki for his first try but on the flip side not so much from a team perspective as you'd want your tries closer to the posts to give that certainty of 6pts by passing to the unmarked teammate on the inside. Another 10m and Edwards would have caught him short.
Post try 'me-me' celebration had me thinking, gee this guy's not so different to Fifita afterall.

I don’t think it’s very fair to criticise his celebration. The way he reacted to the crushed penalty before this showed how much this opportunity means to him. Gentle has talked about how tough of a road he’s had this season. I think he has every right to be happy for scoring his first try in NRL. Also Bullemor was a fair ways inside him, for a young second-rower running at speed it would’ve been a pretty hard pass to throw.

If he throws a bad pass he's howled at for not going for it himself. I think he made the right play - particularly since we got maximum fking points out of it.

Amazing what we can do with a bit of time and space and passing : Carrigan to Dearden to Riki who set himself perfectly for the short pass, and yes, I too wondered why he didn't pass inside to I think Paix in support, but then, he scored, and he deserved that try and it would have done good things to his confidence. Loved the celebration!
