CRICKET General Cricket Discussion - 2023/24

Joe Root's last three test first innings:

204* (and counting)
186
228

And he has the highest ever score in his 100th test AND they have all been in the subcontinent. This year's Ashes could be really interesting if he can maintain this form.

England are currently making India look like a second rate team in India, really puts into perspective just how bad Australia was in that Brisbane test and how much India's reserve team played above their skin.

Should be a very interesting Ashes:

Smith v Root
Sibley v Warner
Pope v Pucovski
Archer v Cummins
Butler v Paine
Bess v Lyon
Stokes v Green

The key will be the supporting casts, does England have anyone to match Hazlewood or Labushagne? Can Green provide anything like Stokes can? It will be fascinating.
Sorry, but I can’t take anyone who looks like a lesbian and is named Joe Root seriously.

Don’t know if any of you saw but an absolutely stunning win for the West Indies against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. They were behind the whole game and set 400 to win.

Enter a guy on DEBUT who comes out and gets an unbeaten double hundred and wins it. Not only that, he is an absolute no name plucked from obscurity because 90% of the normal first team were unavailable. This guy has never even come close to 200 before. Although Bangladesh lost Shakib to injury and he couldn’t bowl in the fourth innings, this is nothing short of one of the greatest individual performances of all time!

My brother put a bit on Windies to win at 3/216 needing 180 off 53 odd overs. Was paying $4 I think. His reasoning: India just did it.

The Windies and Bangladesh having ANOTHER epic. This time Bangladesh need 18 runs with 1 wicket in hand.

think it’s fair to say that this might have happened..

Geez Mitchell Starc needs some help.. there's clearly something amiss with his mechanics, not sure if it has something to do with the changes he made last year to his 'gather' but he's just spraying them everywhere. Looks like he needs a few weeks with Dennis Lillee.

I love Smith like everyone, but jeez he looks like a goose, particularly when he doesn’t make runs doing this shit

Green's 201* off 244 for Subiaco yesterday was brutal. They finished 6/418 off 90 overs in day one- good luck with that next week.

So happy to see J.Richardson back in the international spotlight.

Whenever I see internationals go back and play grade cricket, I honestly wonder why other teams even bother.

I guess there's the lure of embarrassing the pro's so one can say "I've gotten ____ out". But then they flog you to all parts anyway

Bit of a beat up. Show me any batsman that doesn’t shake his head when he gets a shit decision.

Labushagne does it every single time he gets out.

I think Lalor is just noticing signs, the incidents in isolation aren't much but given our history of being ugly and the effort made to turn that around if anything started to creep back in you have to be on it or you'll be back in 2019 pretty quickly.

Just saw the brief highlights of the T20. How are Finch and KRichardson still geting picked? Straight trash.

That entire team is almost Heat-esque: Play their best and they'll score 300, or collapse for 100

In some cases like Lyon, it serves a purpose. Hopefully bowling at first-graders and taking wickets will give him some confidence for when he's inevitably named in the next test XI.

It will make for better viewing when yet another international side targets him as their whipping boy.
