My rough thoughts on the match (for what it's worth):

The Result
1. About right. Roosters deserved the win.
2. Could've been a lot worse.
3. We didn't match our hype.

The Venue
1. Hated the result, but loved the drama. Thumbs up from me as a once off (probably won't be us next year).
2. The narrow field didn't help either of our centres or wings.
3. The short in-goal was a motherfucker.
4. Fantastic way to start the season.
5. But looking forward to regular programming.

The Coach
1. Taupau in for Willison. Good call, Badel. Dubious call, Kevvie.
2. Losing a rookie 2nd rower already under an injury cloud shouldn't throw a team into chaos. But it did. Sorry, Kevvie but that's on you.
3. Tyson and Billy on at the same time. Do better, Kevvie.
4. The bench needs a big rethink. Just as well we didn't lose a back.

The Captain
1. Continuation of Reyno's GF final form. His kicking game has gone to shit.
2. If Kevvie were to drop anyone from this match, it should be Reyno. But he's the best we have. And the next isn't even close.
3. He has to come good or our season's fucked.
4. Right now, this is a MAJOR concern.
5. All eyes on Coby Black. Get ready kid, we might need you next year.

The Changes
1. Deine is ready, but will require some patience. He stays.
2. Jesse continues to punch above our expectations. He stays.
3. Selwyn performed to the lower bar of our expectations. I wouldn't rule out a future swap with Mariner.
4. Hard not to think we missed Herbie, Capewell and Flegler. Selwyn < Herbie at this point.

The Team
1. Walsh is by far our MVP. Love him.
2. We no longer/currently have a formidable pack, and certainly not with Carrigan on an edge.
3. Hetheringon, Baker and Jensen were outclassed.
4. Riki did way more work than you noticed.
5. Our attack looked slicker with Tyson at dummy half. His passing game is underrated. Still counting down the days until Mozer is deemed ready.
6. When Payne chimes into the backline, get ready for a try.

The Opposition
1. Bunch of *****.
2. Tedesco, Radley and Cheese return to form. **** them.
3. Walker outplayed Reynolds. That can't happen again.
4. Credit where it's due. Grudgingly.

The Way Forward
1. Reynolds has to be better. A lot better. At everything. Simple as that.
2. We need a second rower on the bench. Could Patston be it? He looks like Capewell MkII.
3. Hetherington, Taupau, Baker and Jenson are far from safe.
4. Persevere with Mariner. Cobbo is still an experiment.
5. Don't panic. The Roosters were actually pretty decent.
6. Maybe this is the wake-up call we needed.
I know your probably not keen to kick a dog while he's down but.. Ezra was probably our worst player last night... by a whole lot.

Man, the morning after the game after a loss sucks more. It’s just emptiness.

Reflecting the 2 games from the stadium, though Souffs outmuscled Manly for the majority of their 1st half, it’s not the case in the 2nd half. Even when Manly were down, DCE was in reff’s face all night. Perhaps that who he is……

The whole team didn't play that great. I don't think Maam played any worse than anyone else on the team.
He put on some solid shots in defense, had his bell rung once or twice and still looked dangerous in attack.
He had a few regrettable moments but i would say Reynolds played worse than him if we are picking anyone out.

First game of the season, against Uncle Nicks team who for some mysterious reason have been talked up as premiership favorites over the past month ( Nick wants another ring ).

We played on a field with the smallest in-goal ive ever seen and that put a stop to a lot of our attack (It stifled the Roosters attack too).

I echo the thoughts of others that have said these Vegas games should never have been a part of the regular season.
Its a disadvantage to all the teams involved and it should have been exhibition matches to promote the game, not games that contribute to the season proper.

But, when you have a megalomaniac gambling tycoon at the helm, this is what happens.
Money > game with blokes like Vlandys.

The NRL is the shadiest and dodgiest it has ever been as far as im concerned and is as sketchy as Australian boxing and horse racing.

Nobody else missed 9 tackles and threw some of the laziest passes I've ever seen, one an intercept. I dd tend to agree with the others here. Carrigan having to move to an edge killed us! There was one moment there where Billy had nobody to pass it to because it was Carrigans run.

He could have dealt with all the bullshit of slapping and other shit Spencer was doing leading up to it, probably avoids this whole thing. But why would he do that? He didn’t do anything in the GF and everyone has told him what a good boy he is so why would he do anything now?

Further to that it was his whole dismissive tone. It was basically “we’ll deal with this later I’m not letting shit like this get in the way of the spectacle we are pointing on”. You look at the way things like an accusation of a bite are dealt with, even if there isn’t a mark they talk to other players around and try to see if it is legitimate. Her wanted nothing to do with it and it was clear that Mam’s little issue was dampening his spotlight.

The way he refereed the grand final was excellent. There were things both ways that could have been called but both teams got away with a lot, that’s going to happen but no team was disadvantaged.

Yesterday he really needed to penalise the Roosters line speed at times because they were constantly offside but honestly, we also got away with our share of offsides too.

I’m often one of the first to lay into refs and I’m sure if he had his time again yesterday, certainly there would have been some things he would have done differently but in the heat of the moment, I don’t blame him for how he handled it and as said elsewhere, I just think the ire should be placed squarely on Leniu for what he allegedly said and not the ref, that’s all.

It came across dismissive but I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. A fight was brewing, players were yelling at him and he had to deal with the infringement of Walsh all in the same five seconds. His tone was very much a gain back control tone. I’m sure if he could have his time back he would be more empathetic to Ezra at the time but it can take quite a while to process what happened let alone the best way to handle it or that you might not be dealing with it in the right way. Could he have handled the initial handling better sure could have but I think the negative attention really needs to be directed at the culprit, roosters and fuckwits on social media over the initially dismissive ref.
I’m not giving him the benefit of the doubt. He has to be better. He is happy to spend minutes going through video to find a knock on or if a punch is thrown but we can’t hold up the game for potential racism?

Also if little Adam was feeling overwhelmed in that moment he only has himself to blame. He let the game get out of control by putting the whistle away and this is the kind of shit that can happen.

given what has transpired during our game, decided to post this separately.

There’s this fuckwit
1709497580692

too accompanying the others. Didn’t want to take a snap with him at all but did just to get to close him to say to his **** face this — what you said to Ezra was pathetic & disgraceful and that we will take his face in R8 @ Suncorp.
The look on his face once I said is, kind of remorseful of some thought. When I was saying all these, the next 2 standing was like “o you… “ & I yelled at all them to f****f Rotters.

If there was a formal complaint then the ref should have taken a couple of minutes to review the available audio. The bunker often takes several minutes to come to a conclusion over whether or not a punch was thrown in a melee, this shouldn't be any different.

Besides it's not like the American audience aren't used to a football game with lengthy delays...

Hard not to think we missed Herbie, Selwyn < Herbie at this point.

Selwyn gave a quick pass under pressure that lead to Arthars making a break and Walsh scoring . Herbie would not have executed that pass .

Now , you told me a while back defence was secondary and it was all about scoring points ?

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I hated the way the GF was reffed because I hate the whole notion of reffing games differently, even origin but I can accept it there because you have the best of the best playing and it has always been like that. All the average fan ever wants from the refs is consistency so when then go and tell them it’s great if the ref one game completely different to the rest of the year and let the rules slide? Makes no sense. Especially in the GF, the game that is the culmination of the whole season and all of a sudden you are changing your interpretations. Even in these ‘put the whistle away’ games they still have to call some penalties so it is a guessing game of when they have finally had enough and you have to hope it isn’t your side that gets caught out.

As for the game yesterday if the whole thing was about being a spectacle to try and get a few Americans to watch the occasional game then I don’t have that much of an issue with the reffing but it should be an exhibition game and not for season points. I am actually floored he said this is a spectacle.

I also don’t buy the heat of the moment excuse, his job is about making heat of the moment decisions so you can’t get a pass mark when you **** it up. Should we give Spencer a pass mark? I mean it was the heat of the moment after all.

1. Walsh is by far our MVP. Love him.

Has a lot of talent . Makes too many mistakes ATM .
Could well be suspended for shoulder charging .
Could Patston be it?
Did he get a contract ? Otherwise like Smoothy can`t play till mid year ?

Ezra .
I am upset about the abuse . I worry the Roosters will pull the Harbajhan defence .
ie Yes he called him a name but in a native toungue and a word that sounds like monkey but isn`t monkey .
But ,,, Ezra`s lateral defence sux . He missed about a half dozen tackles going low and from the side on runners . His front on defence is solid . But runners at angles are his krytptonite . It will be exploited .

Still didn't handle it well by saying repeatedly 'we'll deal with it later' 2 or 3 times
That`s what the MRC is for .
Ref can`t see and hear every thing . It`s like biting , you can scream he bit me . Until the ref says do you want to make an official complaint it`s play on .

It's a send off offence yet we were the team that had to defend a penalty after having an opposition player allegedly racially abuse one of ours.

Ref didn`t hear it .
Can`t give penalties on he said / she said . Walsh deliberatly slowed down the play the ball trying to buy time for the team to get organised .
Walsh was aware of the melle the ref wasn`t .

Sydney played great, Brisbane lost their way when Piakura came off and were too busy playing catch up. I thought they did well just to hang in and keep the Roosters to three tries, they were far more dominant than the scoreboard shows.

Herbie, Flegler, Capewell and Palasia were all sorely missed.
Hard to say we missed Capewell when the guy replacing him only played 3 minutes.

If I was a sensationalist RL journo I'd be writing an article about the racist issue at East's. This is the 2nd time in recent years this dog **** team has been accused of something like this.

He spent how many years at Penrith ?
He moves to Bondi and suddenly embraces racism because he is now a Rooster ?
That`s crazy talk man .
