Did Matterson get a fine for pulling on Willison`s Racoon hat ?
He got reported for hair pulling !
I remember seeing that. His head got ripped around pretty decently.

Matterson got reported for pulling the Racoon`s tail last night .
Willison didn`t seem to flinch ? I got a surprise when the ref said Matterson was on report ??
I often wonder why the boys grow their hair long. It's bound to happen in a contact sport where you're trying like mad to stop someone.

Yep we're back to no linespeed and catch and wrap... but there's no point with catch and wrap if you aren't wrestling them to the ground.

I feel we're better when we're just cutting blokes in half
I was sitting midfield and high in the stand and this was clear as day. No line speed at all in the first half and soft contact in most tackles. We were constantly on the back foot and so many times looked to struggle to get back on side. Eels for the most part didn’t ever really look threatening though so we kind of got away with it. Second half was much better for line speed and our defensive line looked perfect.

It was ugly - I flicked through the first half again, they got over 60m in a set at least 3 times in the first ~25 minutes. That's not even counting the penalties out of their end or the repeat sets on our line.

They bombed at least 3 tries and were missing two of their best in attack. That first half wasn't just poor, it was dire defensively.

The fact we scored heavily against the run of play really took it out of the eels who are having a shit year and you could just see the life come out of them in defense. If they kept it up, we would have been playing out of our end all game - we rarely made more than 35m per set in the first 25.

Slater spoke up Mam for origin. I wonder if he might be tempted to play him in the 17 jersey

I would be picking Mam as first drop over in the halves over Dearden now. Dearden has consistently shown this year that his playmaking ability is pretty vanilla when he is the man on show. Ezra can create from nothing, is always around the ball and can finish better than anybody.

Not a chance. Mam still got a lot of improvement in him. Particularly defensively.

We also led in those stats for the whole 2023 season and we didn't do too bad 😉
That's true! But could also be said that some of those habits came out in the grand final and cost them the game. Brisbane aren't gonna play like the Panthers (I still can't believe Penrith completed 37 out of 38 sets in the Grand Final) but if they could get off the bottom of the ladder up into like 12th spot or something it'd be huge. Here's the comparison:

Oates was found out of position a few times also, I think it’s going to be one of those things we just got to pray doesn’t happen along with his drops each week.

He’s sort of always been like that but still.
I actually reckon its a Broncos tactic at this point. Happens too often and on both sides. It just looks more clumsy when Oates does it because he's a tall buffalo.

I think its a tactical thing tbh if we are talking about him jamming in. Mariner was doing exactly the same.

I wouldn't say he talked him up. Gould asked him about picking him and he just said he was in the preseason group of 34 and he is playing to the standard of an origin player....

I do think slater is betting on the wrong horse with dearden vs mam though. Mam was 5/8th of the year and was the 2nd best player on the field by a long margin to 3rd in the gf. He is already playing better then dearden and he has WAY more potential too. So he might have to learn lots but you can't do much more then he did in the gf. He just isn't as critical to the broncos as dearden is to his the cowboys, but its got nothing to do with ability and everytjing to do with the shitness surrounding dearden.

As said above, dearden is very 1 dimensional compared to mam. Things happen around him. He is made for origin. Especially with his connection with Walsh...

Oates looked broken for most of the night. He’s either playing through an injury or the pace of the game is getting past him. Walsh gave him multiple sprays. In fairness, the whole side looked fucked last night. Twice, Staggs was almost caught out jogging back to the line with his back to the play and attacking player’s running straight at him. I wonder if Kevvie flogged them hard last week after the Roosters game?

Good to get win, but didn't look like a team that's going to win it all.

Interesting stats, both us and Sea Eagles share top 2 in errors, handling errors and ineffective tackles.
Should be a cracking game next week…..

I think Billy looks at Mam as Munsters replacement and Dearden as DCE's tbh. DCE will retire before Munster I imagine...Mam will be more in the frame when DCE retires I think. I know Dearden replaced Munster last year(?) but I think that would have been more about getting Timmy a taste of Origin as he's technically next man up?
