Mate it's what the storm are doing with him now that counts. Past games don't mean diddly when a team changes their tactics.
He's been carrying an injury the last few weeks. He played 80 last time he played the Panthers (a month ago). But maybe you know what Bellamy is thinking of doing next week.

But it wouldn’t have stopped anything. It would flawed stat and everyone would know it. If your concern is the media carry on over it a win last night wouldn’t have changed that. The next time we played the Storm the media narrative would be unchanged “Melbourne always seem to have the wood over Brisbane, especially at Suncorp” “but they did beat them end of last season” “coke on mate that didn’t count, Brisbane were full strength against a team of nobodies”

My concern is mostly this salty bitter taste I get after every Storm loss.

He was ok - but I didn't see anything that makes you think we have Reyno's replacement.
Sailor was rocks and diamonds. Defensively his positioning was pretty questionable and while he did do some nice things in attack, he also cost us points with some direct errors.

IIRC you were also sure Tesi was going to improve and become a star.

If you were go to back and watch Reynolds at the same stage in his career as Madden, I would be shocked if they weren’t both playing the same way.

He would have been told to keep it simple, kick to corners, don’t overplay, all that. The other things are things that you bring to your game through repetitions but early on when you’re just making a name for yourself, I got no doubt he would be coached to do the basics.

There’s no easy replacement for Reynolds, Reynolds was a player that basically fell into our lap because Souths weren’t prepared to give him an extra year. I can’t see us getting an established halfback from another club like that again. Whoever it is, they’ll need a bit of time.

Reynolds had won a comp at 7 by the time he was 24.

It's Interesting to think about potential replacement for Reynolds, because we don't really get Madden playing with Reynolds. When Madden plays with Ezra he does pretty well. He just isn't Reynolds and there isn't much hype on him from presenters, plus he's probably told to go out and keep it simple. So, we're not seeing any flash from him. Yes, it would be awesome having him and Ezra both with X-factor and killing it, but it would also be nice to see Ezra controlling the game more and better.
In comparison, when Reynolds started playing 7 he was partnered with the beast 6, John Sutton, so he would've automatically looked flashy in comparison.
I think if Madden can work on his kicking game, game control, he will serve us very well with Walsh and Mam

Agreed. We don't necessarily need Madden to be late-career Reynolds, although if he picks up some of those traits while Reynolds is working with him, great.

How does Walsh-Mam-Madden stack up against Hodges-Lockyer-Perry? Right now, it doesn't look like a contest (and truthfully we're unlikely to see another player the likes of Lockyer) but it's definitely not a bad 1-6-7, and a hell of an improvement on what we had a few short years ago. Add in Mozer, if he develops, and have them working behind the pack we're building - I think Madden can work.

That doesn't say a whole lot about whether or not he was playing a different brand to Jock Madden.

That Souths team had some great players. Madden can only improve and let's not beat around it, he's had very limited opportunity. To come out and put the line through him after a couple of stints (usually when we were without a few other key players), it's harshly unfair.

Boy, watching the Souffs v Rotters reminds me that when we do get our full strength team, it will be a totally different performance. We currently at the top of the table for a reason & will perform like that. No freaking doubts.

The L against the grubs certainly put a dent to confidence but hope Kev himself overcame it already and started to make the boys believe again.

resting the majority of our side didn't just protect the team from injury, suspension of HIA stand-down ... but it also protected their confidence from taking a hit.

playing the Storm with both teams at full strength, only to lose then have to back up against them the following week ... would possibly dent our confidence. having our reserve grade teams go at it, wouldn't affect our confidence

Concur to all of it but it’s just that I can’t take the L especially, from those grubs. If not our B team our A team will turn the tables and smack those grubs starting next week. We’re NOT going to drop another game to those cheat grubs.

It seems like every young exciting outside back needs their one "taken over the sideline trying to beat the defence on the outside on a kick return" moment. Slater even had his in a losing international game, but they've all had them, and this was Sailor's. It's probably worked 100 times as they grew up, but the mirage of a gap in first grade is a brutal learning experience.

I kind of feel the message of "you have to take your opportunities against the Storm" was used here but misunderstood. It's supposed to mean that they don't give you much, so you have to earn it through discipline, possession and sticking to a plan. And executing perfectly when it's on. However our team, as a whole (not just Sailor) took it to mean that you need to go for it when you see a half chance, but that's the opposite. It means they went with low-percentage hail-mary's, resulting in errors, lost possession early in the set, and exponential fatigue. And that's where we lost.

I'm looking forward to the masterclass that Billy puts on Grant

Madden was truly woeful, he showed no ball playing ability, and put in some real low IQ pointless kicks. Rogers showed more last night than Madden has in his career.

Yeah right .
Short memory ? Recency bias ?

The try assists that Madden has clocked up the past few previous games vs Rogers zilch . And now Rogers is da man ?
I want an ounce of what you`re tokin bro .
