How can he make it work in the preseason?

Don’t ask logical questions I don’t have answers for.

I don’t know, I just don’t think letting him go is anywhere near as bad an idea as it once was. I feel like he’s a good 1, a better than good but definitely not great 6, a good 7 and probably a decent utility as a result. What he definitely isn’t though is a million dollar a year player, not even close.

If they are planning to have Milford at the back, he deadset needs to shed 12+ kilos between now and kickoff of the Trials in February. We just cannot play him at Fullback if he's just gonna be slow and predictable.
They should just not do it.

You couldn’t call him that after this season no. But get this, I feel like it’s been said before, in his first season as a million dollar player he was our best player and won a lot of games for us.

How much would you want for him and who would you spend it on?

Yeah back end of 15 and start 16 he was elite but what’s gone wrong since then?

I’ll tell you what it Looks like (and you won’t agree with at least one of these points and that’s ok):

- bad diet
- packed on fat, not muscle
- bad coaching
- being played out of position
- having to play 3 positions at once
- being turned from a gun runner into an above average kicker who has completed lost the running game

Siebs has the right idea to put him back at fullback but executed it at the wrong time. Milf was a fun in 15/16 because he was lighter, quicker and playing like a fullback/running five-eighth and then for some reason, the then coach decided to give him the bulk of the responsibility to play make and it has all gone sour from there.

I’d upgrade the kids and target Ponga.

I know the question wasn't addressed to me but I'd like a crack at it if I can. Lets take the 1 million dollar figure literally just for the sake of discussion (it absolutely isn't and his contract is definitely more nuanced than that and very likely worth over a mill), in this current player market if we throw in the 3rd party potential, we should be able to wrangle in an RTS or Ponga type player for that sort of money.

Can you imagine the war chest we will have for 2020 if we let Bird and Milford go (c.$1.9m) and what we could do with it.

You're selling it short, actually. You're forgetting Boyd, Kahu and Macca. There's another million or so roughly. So pie in the sky total is something like 2.9 million dollars of cap freed up in time for November 2020. Who is off contract then apart from ours re: Fifita?

It's funny how Croft seems to be seen as our prized player now and milf is our next on the chopping block, how things quickly change.
The stats seem to suggest milf had the better season in a total disfunctional team, including so many spine changes and positional changes. Yet brodie had not to many disruptions in a quality team.
I'm hoping milf gets a chance to have a settled spine and a good crack in the 6 , I think he can show his true colors then.

I think everyone including me hopes you are right but let’s not forget here that Croft is reportedly on LESS THAN HALF of what Milf is on. Milf better have had a better season and career to date!

5 years in the Melbourne system is a good thing, he learned all bellyaches sneaky moves. I think Milford will be much better if he can just play what's in front of him and not worry about being the half, 5/8 and fullback (at the same time) that he had to be last year.
You would hope the message from the coach is "we've got a halfback now you just play what's in front of you."

On the flip side you hope the message isn't "this is your last chance fix your shit or piss off"

I think the composition of the team is getting there and having a free running Milf (who does actually want to be in Brisbane) playing well gives us a huge attacking boost... I want to see the "happy" free running Milf again, not the Milf that looks like he has the whole team on his shoulders.

I know there was a lot of talk last season that he looked happier playing fullback, but to me I don't think Milf has been happy since midway through 2016.

He doesn't really celebrate the tries or big plays like he used to... when Haas scored that try against Panthers this year was probably the happiest I can recall him being on the field in awhile, but I'd like to see him bouncing around the group and celebrating tries like he used to.

Can any of these rich kid fancy pants ball players around this new spine - Croft, Milford, Dearden, Turpin, Bird, Boyd, Fifita, etc - chip and regather, Alfie style?

Seems to be a lost art. Alf used to try it five times every game, and half the time if he didn't pull it off he'd milk a penalty.

That's true but we don't know what the contract is worth, and we won't know how Croft will perform yet.

Always handy to have another field goal option:
