Official Queensland Side For Game 1

Gillett is inconsistent. I think he's spending too much time with Hodges, picking up his bad habits, like getting the ball flat footed. He needs to run onto it more and hit holes.

I really thought Gillett started 2012 well and while he proved he wasn't a starter way back then he did prove to be a more than handy impact bench player.

Result: An extremely mediocre Origin series.

This year he hasn't improved on that and I'd go as far to say his 2012 form was superior.

I'd have him before McQueen but not Te'o. Ben has proven to be a major asset as a fringe running forward and was one of the best in the world before he left the Broncos. He hasn't been as flash for Souths but he's definitely become more consistent and well rounded.

I'd have a prop before Gillett - whether it's Lawrence, Lillyman or dare I even say Ross, I'd have them because I don't like the idea of having three fringe runners off the bench.

My main issue with Gillett is his mistakes this year particularly in defence. He has come up with to many weak efforts or pushes. Even his break last week when he stopped and looked for a support was IMO a weak effort. The old Gillett would have pinned his ears back and had a crack, let's face it, if you have to slow down to wait for the support it's no faster than you anyway.

It's that same selection loyalty that has Slater still at fullback when Inglis is clearly the best in the game at this point. I can understand it, I just can't like it.

I don't consider that selection "loyalty" ......

It's a reasonable argument that moving Inglis out of the centres actually weakens our backline.

I'd love to see GI back there ......but until QLD manage to unearth a couple of better centre options, it's going to be a bit of a pipe dream.

Defence is my main issue. I have no doubt that he could find a nice line in attack

I also have no doubt that he will come up with a customary bad read or one of his trademark girly arm grab attempts in defence.

In origin, that makes it a bad selection for mine.

Papalii > Gillett

Chambers and Gagai. Gagai might not be up to standard 100% in defence just yet, but chambers is ready.

If QLD can win the first 2, I'd love to see Chambers and DCE both starting in Game3.

Hodges might play with an injection and he played with one last Friday night. He shouldn't be in this squad. Absolute joke.

Yeah, maybe. A busted rib is one injury you can get needled. It doesn't stop your running game just makes things uncomfortable when twisting and turning.
As long as he doesn't do extra damage he should be right. Although I would be pissed if he misses a club game because of his rib injury, but he normally gets rested regardless.

The next Broncos game after Origin is a Monday night, so all origin players will have maximum time to rest. It would be like playing Sunday 1 round and playing Friday night the next.

Having Hodgo is bad for Qld (might get injured mid game... who am I kidding: will get injured mid-game) which leaves us 1 short, and it's bad for the Broncos cause he will most likely be rested after all games too. No-win situation?

In other Qld news has anyone seen this yet? Absolute gold (the XXXX ad that they've linked to, not the page, I just can't find it on youtube)

Same.

Before I'd play I'd watch origin clips and get real jacked up. The one where Pricey gets ko'd was always one to get ou pumped up. Watching locky and smithy lay down the law before the downtown kick is glorious.

Ah I love the hatred, it's so strong. I just want them to be smashed.

That's what amused me about Martin Kennedy's sook saying that he didn't say he would 'turn informer' against his team mates and that he loves pearcey and BBQ and he would never turn against his team mates.

When he said that I thought mate, I hope you never get the privilege to play origin because you seriously just do not get it... At all

I go through a few different stages in the week leading up to Origin. When the teams are named I have to calm myself down and tell myself there is still a week & a half to go. Then I go through a bit of a panic mode, "what if NSW win?" Then I watch the footy show or hear the NSW coach talk and it reminds me why I hate NSW. Then I start counting sleeps. Then I can't sleep the night before. Then I wake up morning of the game & hope it is the longest day ever! I love origin day! It's the three of the four best days of the year. The best day is the first day of the Gabba test. But that's only because I'm a cricket tragic!

lol! Could you have imagined a few years ago when Bellamy was coaching if Smith had if said. "We better not win, it might hurt Craig's feelings"?
