Round 8 - Broncos vs. Rabbitohs - Pre-Game discussion

I think some people are hoping that someone important at the club will stumble across Broncos HQ and the only thing they'll see is complaining about Hoffman, thus planting the seed. Personally, I very much doubt that anyone at the club bar perhaps Griffin is unaware of how much Hoffman at 6 is dragging us down.

Then those people are idiots.

And did I mention dull?

"Dull"....That's a strong word in this case. I would've gone with monotonous. We are passionate about our club. That is entirely natural and predictable. Going out of our way to emphasize the standout weakness in our side seems like an acceptable occurrence. It is a testament to the importance of the 5/8th position that we can't exactly discuss anything else without gradually whittling it down back to what is supposed to be one of our key playmakers, or lack thereof. It's very similar to Godwin's Law. All things relevant eventually lead back to one place.

Fantastic, there is a thread designed for people to bag him out in. How about instead of affecting the quality of discussion by bringing it up in every single thread, people just keep their thoughts in one thread designed for it? I'm not suggesting this as a mod either, rather just as an average joe.

Are people that selfish that they're going to drag every single thread down onto one topic? Honestly...

I'll just say this. My problem isn't with people criticising Hoffman. I thought the experiment was over last week against the Titans and the Knights performance did little to endear me. My problem is scapegoating in general and how it drags every thread down with it. Once upon a time it was Wallace, then Thaiday now it's Hoffman and it's not quality discussion. The sad thing is, it hurts the genuine points other posters make.

Never the less, I've dragged this thread too far off topic as is. For Brisbane, it is all about being able to replicate their performance against Newcastle on their home ground. Rabbits are a fair side, nice structures and some world class players but a little lacking when it comes to their backline and bench.

I feel it's actually somewhat of a relevant point to this thread. Souths have both Sutton and Reynolds capable of kicking, whereas we only have Hunt. Souths are going to pressure him all night and with Inglis at the back to bounce on hurried kicks Souths are going to have great starting position on a lot of their sets unless we get the kicking game right. Because of Hoffman at 6, I don't think we will.

Coming into this round Ben Hunt lead the league in kicks in general play, by a full 9 kicks over his nearest rival. Goes to show just how limited we are in that area. Frankly I'm surprised it's not a bigger number.

Forwards will be the big targets on the night, they'll need to buckle down and ensure they handle the onslaught from the Burgess family. Playmakers just need to play simply and when the gaps appear, play before themselves.

Backs also need to make sure they don't turn the ball over off kicks.

The thing that surprises me is that Hoffmans ridiculous no passing policy is not mentioned by the commentators eg Gould. Lockyer, Johns .Has anyone done the stats on the percentage of times he runs verses passes? Mayby we are focusing on Hoffman but surely a 5/8 who actually passes the ball is not too much for us loyal fans to ask for.

Tipping Barba in for a big game. There was a little moment in the match on Friday, albeit a small one. Whilst he was returning a kick return, he actually challenged Mamo on the outside. He didn't do his usually jog into the line, he backed himself to have a crack.

He's back ladies and gentleman. The confidence is back.

totally thought the same when I saw it. he was so close to beating the tackle too. imagine if he did... but any word on his ankle? he was in some distress when he went down

Macca will need to kick from dummyhalf to help Hunt out.

The more we turn around the big boppers in their pack the better off we'll be.

This is very true. Macca can take some pressure off Hunt by taking a few kicks from dummy half and finding some space. Try to turn the Souths pack inside out. They are still pretty mobile for big units though I reckon our fitness is far superior and will work more in our favour.

More dummy half runs as well, this will get them back pedalling from marker and pick up a few penalties for lazy defense. This is working really well this year and is finding easy metres every time. Thank god he has also put away the grubber kicks on the line from dummy half!!

Macca needs to finally learn to pass accurately off the ground. Or even inaccurately off the ground. He's literally the only hooker who can't.

Got to say, this let's bash Hoffman in every single thread is tiring. Change the record.

At least its a change from the lets bash Hook in every thread.

but i agree with you i wish people would keep their ranting in the relevant threads

I also agree totally with this, shits me to tears reading the same stuff over and over again. I get it, he is not a 5/8, but I have difficulty seeing what other options there are presently. We either put someone else in there who is not a 5/8, or put in a junior or player untried at this level. That might have consequences in terms of a weakness in defence, that player being specifically targeted, let alone throwing away the combinations that have actually built up over 7 games and the pre-season.

That's why I think Hunt should just kick it over the sideline whenever he can't get a decent kick away.

His kicking is not going to improve in a week to a point where we can trouble Souths with it, so why not minimize the impact of Inglis by kicking it out?

I know it might not be a great option, but we've all seen what Inglis can do..

What combinations? The ball dies with Hoggman irremediably!
