Souths are still going to struggle next year. Losing Luke is massive for them, the only reason why it didn't matter in the 2014 GF was because of how horrendous the Dogs were/ the amount of favouritism they received. If they lose Walker and McQueen (I don't rate him, but they don't have anyone close to his quality to replace him) then I dare say that they're cooked.

I'd take Walker at the Broncs as well might I add. Bennett could turn his form around.

Any salary talk suggestions about Souths is just ridiculous when you consider the Broncos roster and the fact that last year we were paying Barba and Kennedy.

It wasn't like they went out and signed Greg Inglis in the off-season either.

Woah, come on now mate. While I agree that media hype doesn't determine cap, to say Souths didn't rate as a top 2 chance is just plain wrong.

They had just won the comp and rated as certainties to go back to back. In fact questions of whether they would actually lose a game were being asked.

You're comparing a side that happened to put together a decent season after falling ass back-wards into the Top 8 to a side coming off premiership success. It isn't like these players had the same leverage to get better deals and outside of the most ardent supporters, it wasn't like people questioned how the Broncos were able to put their roster on the park. That's all just hindsight talking.

I've got no doubt something has got to give at Souths.

A big name proven forward(not you David Taylor) that you build your forward pack around is critical to a side to really be a force after all that's what it took to get the Bronco's their first premiership. It's pretty obvious South's lost that edge after Sam departed and clearly they want him back, can't say I blame them though I'm with Big Pete, it won't be all good news, you start paying obscene amounts to multiple player's and it will come back to bite your ass tenfold.

We also lost a lot of players to accommodate those signings, they were each tit-for-tat. The only club so far able to sign a million-dollar player and not lose much is the Roosters.

Burgess is a player you build a team around. He's worth the money. He's one of the few that has no peer when it comes to the talents that he can put together in one humanly body. He only has two downsides - one, he's somewhat injury prone. And two, he has shocking hands just like his brothers. Get him on song at the right time of the year and he's worth his price tag.

In saying that, Souths have really only had Inglis and Walker as elite outside backs. They've had speedy wingers that can finish other people's work (and you can even count Walker in that category if you're a bit harsh), but they've had to make do with Reddy, Goodwin, Tuqiri, etc in 2 or 3 positions per week. With their forwards, they're going to be able to easily compress teams in the middle and and set up room for the backs. Without Walker, I'm not sure they'll have the talent to make the most of that any more.

I just laugh at the fact that they supposedly let Reddy go because they couldn't afford him under the cap. next minute they sign Burgess for one of the richest deals in NRL history

FTR, I'm ecstatic that Sam Burgess is back in the NRL ... but if he can't fit under Souths cap, then they have to refuse to register the contract ... just like they recently did for Hopoates Eels deal

A player being let go because the club can't fit a player of his quality under the cap is the same as a politician quitting to spend more time with his family. But no club is going to issue a press release saying they let a player go because he was a useless piece of shit with feet for hands and would be out of his depth in a schoolboys game. It's just not the done thing.

According to the SMH, he will be registered on Souths cap for the same value as when he left. About 500k a season
