Why won't this Inglis to Broncos rumor go away?

JAMES Roberts has a plan for Greg Inglis and it will make Broncos fans salivate.

Roberts revealed he wanted to reunite with superstar fullback Inglis at an NRL club, forming the most lethal backline combination in NRL history.

The plan will likely involve the Broncos, who The Courier-Mail can reveal are interested in signing Inglis when his contract with South Sydney ends.

Inglis wants to finish his illustrious NRL career in Brisbane where he could transition to full time work in Queensland’s Indigenous community.

He is off contract in at the end of 2017 but Brisbane could yet secure him for next season.

The Broncos moved Dale Copley on short notice to accommodate Roberts and could have to move centre Jack Reed to accommodate Inglis. Reed is also off contract at the end of 2017, linking into the end of Inglis’s contract.

Inglis will turn 31 in 2018 and would play centre rather than fullback for Brisbane, limiting his workload although the Broncos would need to fight off several NRL clubs to sign the superstar.

Roberts and Inglis combined for South Sydney in 2011, playing six games together. Four years later, Inglis and Roberts reunite in Saturday’s All Stars clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Asked if he would try to play alongside Inglis at NRL level again, Roberts was emphatic.

“For sure,” Roberts told The Courier-Mail.

“It would be awesome for me and him to be in the same NRL team again. I would love it. It would be very exciting for me. He’s a great player to play with.

“We are related too and that would make it special as well. It has been a while but I’m very excited to play with him again.

“I was pretty quiet back in those days and I guess not much has changed. I was only a young kid back at Souths, I was only 18. It was good being his little apprentice. Hopefully we have a good game this weekend.”

If Inglis had not called Brisbane officials from Sydney airport late in 2010 and told them he wasn’t heading to their club as agreed then Roberts wouldn’t be a Bronco.

Inglis owns a house in northern Brisbane and spends his holidays in the city. Inglis has not ruled out a move to Brisbane and will commence contract talks with South Sydney late this year.

Teaming with Roberts adds another incentive to move north.

Inglis raved about Roberts’ talent and said it was a matter of when not if Roberts debuted for New South Wales.

“Without a doubt,” he said.

“Clubs now look at your off-field behaviour as well as your on-field behaviour, life away from football and how you have been training and from the things I have been hearing all that is good so he’s not far off.”

Is the media seriously under the assumption that we can afford to have a backline and spine that looks like this on our books:

1. Boyd
2. Oates
3. Roberts
4. Inglis
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Hunt

Jesus tittyfucking christ, we would never hear the end of it from the nutters down south. This has seriously got to be bunkem surely but it KEEPS COMING UP.

In my opinion that story is shoddy journalism. The journo asked James Roberts if he would like to play with Inglis again and he said yes .What was he going to say?No? He then wrote a story around it .

Or it could mean that Roberts will move to South Sydney once his contract is up and Rabbitohs can afford him.

Yeah a bit of 2+2 = 5 here, but still, I'd take him at centre at the expense of Reed in a heartbeat. Not at fullback though. And because he actually wants to play for us this time.

Edit: so long as we have a hole at centre and don't risk a Kahu/Opacic/whoever else emerges in the backline in that time of course leaving

Think alitle bit, both Reed & Parker will leave at the end of 2017 (possibly Glenn, Gillet &or McCullough too) With Inglis getting older & wanting to be in Brisbane, thats plenty of coin. Boyd will have slowed down a lot by then so Jimmy jet to fullback, Boyd to the wing & Ingles to centre. Kahu on the other wing with Opacic the other centre & Oats to second row.
Simple!!

Because it sells papers. They don't care if there is any truth to it or not.

There is truth to the story. If Souths hadn't of blocked it, he would already be in Broncos colours. Whether Broncos need him or not now that we have Roberts etc, will be decided throughout the year. The ball is out of Inglis court now.

Was that during the Roberts saga that Souths blocked his move to the Broncos?

*Roosters logic* we just got rid of Parcell and Dodds, so we have more than enough cap space for GI + another big signing.

EDIT: The thought of the GH raging is reason enough to sign him.

So in other words, if Reed plays like horse shit this year and we desperately need a good left centre for next season, we can probably expect GI.

More than just Reed would need to be moved on to accommodate Inglis. Hence the signings of talented young players recently who are on nowhere near the money of some of the higher profile players at the club. If, for example, Alex Glenn was moved on to fit in Inglis, we have a whole host of backrowers who can play that role, for half the price. Pangai Jnr, Ese'ese, S'ua etc.

Zero sleep would be lost imo. A better-than-average, solidly good player, but has been one-dimensional for about 3 or 4 years now. Won't lose you a game, but won't win you one either.

If Parker retires and we have the opportunity to turn Reed, Glenn and Maranta into Inglis, I'd jump on that straight away, not because I think Inglis is going to be a world beater at the ripe age of 30, but just because we have a great opportunity to lose some non-essential contracts (Admittedly I do still like Glenn, but there's more talent on the way unfortunately for him)

Next season might be the year Oates finally transitions full time into a back rower.

1. Boyd
2. Anderson
3. Inglis
4. Roberts
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Hunt
8. Ofahengaue
9. McCullough
10. Blair
11. Oates
12. Gillett
13. McGuire

14. Nikorima
15. Thaiday
16. Ese'ese
17. Pangai Jr.

Potentially something along these lines, of course it depends a lot on which of the young guys prove themselves this year in ISC & their limited NRL opportunities, I'm backing Ofahengaue to go big this year.

If GI wants Reed's spot he can work for Reed's pay.

So we were chasing him for this year? How could we possibly afford him?

That makes a whole lot of sense tbh.
