Is the media seriously under the assumption that we can afford to have a backline and spine that looks like this on our books:
1. Boyd
2. Oates
3. Roberts
4. Inglis
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Hunt
Jesus tittyfucking christ, we would never hear the end of it from the nutters down south. This has seriously got to be bunkem surely but it KEEPS COMING UP.
JAMES Roberts has a plan for Greg Inglis and it will make Broncos fans salivate.
Roberts revealed he wanted to reunite with superstar fullback Inglis at an NRL club, forming the most lethal backline combination in NRL history.
The plan will likely involve the Broncos, who The Courier-Mail can reveal are interested in signing Inglis when his contract with South Sydney ends.
Inglis wants to finish his illustrious NRL career in Brisbane where he could transition to full time work in Queensland’s Indigenous community.
He is off contract in at the end of 2017 but Brisbane could yet secure him for next season.
The Broncos moved Dale Copley on short notice to accommodate Roberts and could have to move centre Jack Reed to accommodate Inglis. Reed is also off contract at the end of 2017, linking into the end of Inglis’s contract.
Inglis will turn 31 in 2018 and would play centre rather than fullback for Brisbane, limiting his workload although the Broncos would need to fight off several NRL clubs to sign the superstar.
Roberts and Inglis combined for South Sydney in 2011, playing six games together. Four years later, Inglis and Roberts reunite in Saturday’s All Stars clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Asked if he would try to play alongside Inglis at NRL level again, Roberts was emphatic.
“For sure,” Roberts told The Courier-Mail.
“It would be awesome for me and him to be in the same NRL team again. I would love it. It would be very exciting for me. He’s a great player to play with.
“We are related too and that would make it special as well. It has been a while but I’m very excited to play with him again.
“I was pretty quiet back in those days and I guess not much has changed. I was only a young kid back at Souths, I was only 18. It was good being his little apprentice. Hopefully we have a good game this weekend.”
If Inglis had not called Brisbane officials from Sydney airport late in 2010 and told them he wasn’t heading to their club as agreed then Roberts wouldn’t be a Bronco.
Inglis owns a house in northern Brisbane and spends his holidays in the city. Inglis has not ruled out a move to Brisbane and will commence contract talks with South Sydney late this year.
Teaming with Roberts adds another incentive to move north.
Inglis raved about Roberts’ talent and said it was a matter of when not if Roberts debuted for New South Wales.
“Without a doubt,” he said.
“Clubs now look at your off-field behaviour as well as your on-field behaviour, life away from football and how you have been training and from the things I have been hearing all that is good so he’s not far off.”
