Australian Cricket Team admit to ball tampering

As usual, this is being overblown by the media. Yes, it is cheating and yes, a minor penalty should be imposed but on the serious scale, this ranks as a 2/10. Cricket has allowed match and spot fixers to return to the game and cricket's reputation is tarnished by it's past and current shady dealings. Altering the ball which probably doesn't work anyways (or marginally) is a minor offense and should be treated as such. Faf, Atherton, Waqar, Wasim etc have all done it, the crime doesn't all of a sudden become more serious because the Aussies are participating in it.

Most cricket fans are livid mate, not just the media. I think it rates a little higher than a 2 on the serious scale too

You know what?

How about no. Or just a straight up **** no.

This was premeditated by a group. The coach was relaying instructions to cover it up.

And above all it was a fucking huge amateur hour disgrace and shameful.

ImI sorry. But with all due respect .Just a big **** no to everything you just said.

Agree with you two guys, it's an awful look, not a minor incident.

The more I think about it though, I'm not sure removing Smith's captaincy is the answer, whoever replaces him is just as likely to have been involved in the decision to cheat as well, and we'll be in exactly the same situation except with a proxy captain. If I were in charge, I'd axe Lehmann, suspend Bancroft for 12 months, suspend Smith & Warner for 5 tests or something.

Draw a massive line in the sand, but retain the possibility of us actually having a good team once the punishments have been served, I really don't want a team captained by Khawaja or M.Marsh or some shit.

The fact that it was a huge amateur hour is exactly why I can't take it seriously. It was wrong and as a fan, I wish it didn't happen but it's no worse than a pitcher throwing a spit ball in baseball or the George Brett pinetar incident. Smith and Bancroft should be fined 100% of their match fee and that will be a sufficient penalty. They weren't colluding with bookies or receiving paper bag payments. Of all the shenanigans that have taken place in this series, this is the least serious of them all. This will blow over within a week.

They represent what is meant to be the best of Australian sports. I don't even like cricket, but they can at least be shown the door, never to represent their country again. **** them, the cheating assholes.

You’re kidding about this blowing over in a week, right?

Every other cricketing nation sits in wait for an opportunity to slip it in to us, and we have just served up something for them all to dine out on for months.

Spot fixing and paper bag bullshit is generally common on the subcontinent where even top grade players play for peanuts. This is conduct by an Australian cricket team, full of blokes earning 7 figures each year which has fucking cheated in front of a world audience for no other reason that they were getting beaten.

Surely smith at least has to step down. He came out and admitted cheating to win a game. Pretty poor form from all involved really.

We're an hour away from finding out, Sutherland will address the media at 11am QLD time.

I imagine that Lehmann loses his job, Smith & Warner lose their captaincy & vice-captaincy, Bancroft is suspended for the last game of the series.
Any updates?

Premeditated cheating.
They all have to go.

It's worse than just spitting on the ball, they had to get some sandpaper and hide it. WTF.

No punishments yet, we're sending the Australian Cricket version of an integrity unit over to SA to determine basically what happened and who knew, before anyone loses their job.

Pathetic.

But, suspensions and fines are sufficient imo.

Weak as piss. Send the Australia A team over for the last test.

FFS how did no one have the balls to go no.

We have the Marsh’s and Starc who are part of cricket family legends. Way to taint it you retards

At least this will take away the focus on Lodge

I do feel sorry a bit for Bancroft though. Young guy on tour looking to impress, captain or someone from the "leadership" has asked to do this, what's he gonna say. And I know, he should say something but if he did, I'm pretty sure what the next question out of that persons mouth was.

He could have showed some backbone and said no. **** him. Trying to impress in such a fashion makes you scum.

The thing with those other blokes doing it is they aren’t fucking aussies.

Cheating because our backs are to the wall is about the most un-Australian thing I can think of.

And the spineless ***** in the leadership group throw the ball to a junior player in the team. It’s fucking deplorable

Any squad that involves Boof, Smitty and Warner will do whatever it takes to win. They are the guys who feel the heat when the team struggles and just because they are Aussies doesn't make them any more honest than the next guy. They tried to gain a slight advantage by scratching on the ball. Has there ever been any proof that this actually works? It certainly hasn't been proven in this match as De Villiers chases another century and the Aussies headed for a huge defeat.
