I think our regular season has been worse than last year, but at the moment, we still could defy the odds, win the Grand Final and then its a better year.

Reading this post game thread really vindicates my position all season.

Next time I post an opinion and people want to jump all over me, please read this thread before posting.
It’s not your position that upsets people, but your incessant need to throw it in every argument, every thread. And it’s tiresome. Give it a rest, take the high road.

From the kick off the it was apparent the dogs knew they had nothing to lose so they were well aware they could push the envelope and take as many risks as they liked so they went the niggle with the aim of unsettling a young and inexperienced bunch of rookies. Four times they stripped the ball in the tackle in the first half – they got pinged once for it. Three illegal turnovers for one penalty is great odds in any game.

At the 20-minute mark, dogs’ number 4 comes in and slams Isaako’s head and shoulder with his hip when he’s on the ground being tackled. Nothing was said by anyone. I’m not sure if the dog knew Isaako was playing with a needle there, but the act was still uncalled for anyway. Now if Isaako had laid down we might have got the penalty, but he chose to play on (good on him). Contrast this with Lewis who play acts he has been crushed in the second half and he even has the presence of mind to flick his head back as his hair is in eyes immediately as he sits up and gives the game away? Thankfully that was captured by the camera (little shit).

Three times I saw the dogs rip off our player’s boots in the tackle (Staggs and Haas x 2) again nothing was said by the ref or Boyd to the ref and the refs must have been aware of it as at one point the ref threw Haas his boot back on the run. 6 minutes before half time and Glenn attacks their line Boyd moves to dummy half and while he’s waiting for Lexie to get to his feet he turns and gestures to the team with open arms and shrugs his shoulders as if to say ‘eh what are we doing here?’ this from the guy who is supposed to be guiding our attack. Right there I knew Darius has no clue about attcking structures and is simply winging it. In fact last night I'd go as as to say he phoned it in.

Our attack will remain like a clusterfuck so long as we persist with the current spine. Boyd is not leading, he is not organising our attack and to say he had a man of the match performance last week is quite laughable. He made one break scored a try and that was about it. Fifita, Haas and Isaako were much more deserving of that award. Boyd did have a good game last week (compared to his normally poor standard) but he reverted to type last night. I have to say he was abjectly shit throughout the game. I mean what other 5/8 stands idly by the dummy half when their team is on the attack? He was guilty of this on numerous ocassions last night.

On the bright side maybe we done ourselves a favour by losing. I used to live in Sydney and when I attended our games at Brookie we invariably got ambushed and made to look shambolic. This was in the days of Langer and Walters too. For some reason we turn to shit at Brookie. In contrast, we have Bankwest now which I consider as mini Lang Park, the atmosphere may well be hostile, but I think it will suit us more than what Brookie would. Added to this, coming off a loss will ensure the boys get caned all week and are hopefully bursting to make amends. I’m quite confident that if we play SOS at 7 and Turps at 9 we’re a chance. If Seibs thinks he’s better served sticking with what he’s got, then I don’t fancy our chances.

In summary, the dogs gave us a lesson in how to niggle a team into defeat. The young guys lost their heads and were too interested in protesting the injustices instead of playing to the whistle. Sure, we got some hellish calls, but good teams with a winning mentality don’t let shit calls affect them. Staggs was perhaps guilty of trying too much and despite Isaako’s wing leaking tries I’m sure it doesn’t happen if we have a proper half defending three in on the right. Turps was way out of his depth last night.

Finally, I mised the game last night and watched it this morning. As I was watching it I kept feeling sorry for all you guys that had to watch that live, it must have been hell.

What is more troubling is that a lot of our players have resigned with the thought that we are not far from a premiership. By looks of it, we look a long way away. What happens when it becomes evident that that premiership is not on the horizon? The players will go elsewhere. Could you imagine the damage fifita, hass, TPJ, milf and staggs could do in a decent team like melbourne?

Shockingly, the coach is relevant to most topics about the team.

Completely agree on those so called loose carries! It's bloody obvious teams are working to ball out of the hands in the tackle but are rarely being penalised for it. NRL teams and Coaches are constantly outsmarting the referees. It's infuriating.

Do you want them to not think they can win a premiership? 🤔

Public service warning - I’m going to be a **** this week.

Absolutely fucking embarrassing. Watching the game now and we are fucking embarrasing.

And people want to tell me if we win next week we 100% have had a better year this year than last year. Cooked in the head.
You're warning us it can be worse than normal?

I wonder where the fault actually lies

I think Bennett is the best coach of all time who lost his edge. He went from tapping blokes like Lewis and Tallis on the shoulder to signing 30+ year olds to long term deals and saying shit like it’s just a game and footy comes second. Now you can argue the merit of those arguments all you want, but you don’t want to be hearing it come out of the mouth of a coach being paid millions to win you a comp or a highly paid player like Boyd who is playing like shit.

Souths have a premiership ready squad that he’s walked into and they’ve taken the recruitment keys off him instead of giving him a blank cheque book like it sounds like the Broncos did. I suspect Souths will go the way we did after 2015 if they don’t win this year.

Edit: he’s still a good footy mind, but the Broncos were right in trying to get him behind the scenes where I reckon he’d have more of an impact. It also sounds like he wants to be a mentor to young footy players these days but he can’t give up coaching, which is again a bit weird considering his history of telling players to retire.

That argument would hold more weight if he hadn’t tapped Hodges, Parker and Thaiday in the past few years. Taking the recruitment off him would also ring more true if Sua and Roberts weren’t at Souths.

We should have given him the extra year he wanted and then transitioned him into that role imo.

Probably not the thread for it tho

Agree with all this. He is still the GOAT but he is yesterday's hero.

Nah mate it doesn't. Remember I asked you if you knew why people keep having a crack and you said yes?
Well you don't.
Your man is old as **** and wasn't our future.
Instead of getting behind the clubs call
every one of your posts has an I told you so whiney undertone.
Nobody likes what's going on but its early days and we are going through our pain a year ahead of where we would be and there is no way WB would have coached his squad to a premiership anyway.
I wouldn't say this is a rebuilding year as much as a formative year and if AS can't get his shit together then we will move on and that will also be about our future not looking backwards at our former coach so please get the **** over it and go back to your previously good postings.😔

He's recruited 3 Broncos so I'd hardly say the keys have been taken from him. And since when do coaches hand out checks?

Ball control really let us down. Isaako was in because Turpin was out of position in the d line. At least we've now done better than last season. We made the finals with a -50plus differential, that's gotta be the best result in decades? Siebs is a master coach, get the boys to play like a rabble this week so Parra get complacent then go to wankbest and turn them inside out with storm-esque shapes and 6 man kick chase possies. Then all the way to the gf without facing Melbourne who will get knocked out in the semis. Benno wishes he was as cool as Siebs.
