POST GAME Round 25 - Bulldogs vs Broncos

Ball control really let us down. Isaako was in because Turpin was out of position in the d line. At least we've now done better than last season. We made the finals with a -50plus differential, that's gotta be the best result in decades? Siebs is a master coach, get the boys to play like a rabble this week so Parra get complacent then go to wankbest and turn them inside out with storm-esque shapes and 6 man kick chase possies. Then all the way to the gf without facing Melbourne who will get knocked out in the semis. Benno wishes he was as cool as Siebs.

I would have thought that the captain who presumably is responsible for organising the defence and addressing shortcomings as they happen, would have had words with the right side defence

All this " Bennett is handing out contracts " needs to stop. He has an input, he doesnt have the final say.

do you really think the club would sign a player that the coach doesn't want ...

assuming there is money in the salary cap and a deal can be worked out, the coach will get his player.

the value of the contract is likely also the responsibility of the coach, i highly doubt an accountant would decide on a players value to the team.

Hard to say considering the little amount of time the other two have had in first grade, but signing him is definitely not the answer.
He can run the ball, organise the set, kick the ball, make the field goal. Looks way sharper than our current spine players ( probably not Milford)

He might not be the final solution, but I’m way more comfortable to have him compared with SOS or Boyd or even Dearden

yet he is on the outer in the Melbourne system, which is the best in the league ... hmmmm.

There is a good chance the Croft will never be as good as people thought a few years ago, which is honestly very common amongst young halves. It could easily happen to Dearden too, for example. I'd be reluctant to sign a lot of Storm players, their structures and Bellamy seem to be able to get the maximum out of them, and no other coach seems to be able to do the same. There are a few players who'd probably still do well anywhere else, like Smith, Munster, JAC, NAS etc, but a lot of the others you'd think will probably not be anywhere as good.

Of course on the other hand, our halves situation is dire as ****. Our hopes seem to be placed on a friggin 19 year old rookie with 6 games of FG next year. I really do think we need someone else if Seibold keeps Milford at fullback.

Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and the list continues are all on the outer in Broncos system or not even close qualified in the system, which is the ??? in the league ...

We are looking for players can make the team better not just simply going after the best players in whoever’s system.

Sadly, Croft might not reach people’s expectations but he still looks way better compared to our halves. The thought of our team going to depend on Dearden next season is scary. We really need look for a decent half from the market, and Croft might just be approachable.

Despite some players don’t play as good as they used to under storm’s system, but they act tough.
Turpin is way out of Melbourne’s line, but he’s definitely our bravest toughest fighter in the team, i also see that from Drinkwater too, they seem very mentally tough, which is very much needed in our young team

Thats not what im saying though. People talk like every contract is down to Bennett. It isnt. We have a CEO and a person in charge of our cap who would do the financials. Bennett in his last stint would be like any other coach, he would say who he wants, talk to the player and tell them why they should come to Brisbane, but the rest of it would be down more to Lanigan and White to negotiate with the player and his manager. Wayne would have had some input, but he doesnt manage our cap.

Who decides the term though?
I think that's is the problem with Boyd's contract

Very true. It might surprise you to see how few of the upcoming stars of yesteryear are currently making plays today:

All the coaches say part of being a coach is managing the cap? Every other coach gets the accolades or the criticisms that go with good or bad signings, why should he be any different? Why does Wayne get the credit for the Haas signing?

That argument would hold more weight if he hadn’t tapped Hodges, Parker and Thaiday in the past few years. Taking the recruitment off him would also ring more true if Sua and Roberts weren’t at Souths.

We should have given him the extra year he wanted and then transitioned him into that role imo.

Probably not the thread for it tho
Yes yex yes. The swap should have happened next year. Oh well. Can't unfuck that woman !

I can't understand the mental block people have to blooding rookies like Dearden, who for mine, has done really well in his first year at 7. Other clubs throw 18 and 19 year olds into the firing line all the time, and we already have Fifita and Haas in the side at 19. I mean, any quality player has to start somewhere. He has shown great promise. He should be our next half. The biggest problem Dearden faces is he has no support at 5/8. Hopefully for next year that will change ... yes, I believe in miracles

It wouldnt just be Wayne, but he would be involved to a point. I just dont like how people put everything onto him when he is just a cog in the machine.
If you had to weight how much say the coach has what would it be, 80%.?
I mean a coach would have to say things like he's my guy or I'd like him
if we can get him.
There have been a lot of stories of players coming here only after speaking with Wayne.

You're deliberately being obtuse. No ons said a coach has no imput. Dumb statement. The board decides contract value and length. Fucking deal with it. They're the facts.
