OFFICIAL Team List: Pangai & Lodge Set For Seagulls

How's Jayden Berrell travelling? Iirc there was a bunch of buzz about him in the 20s some years back but then it just fizzled, and I haven't been able to watch QCup games in a good long while.

I'd like to see Deardon dropped and Paix given a run at 7 just to let managers and players alike know that we have options and are wiling to develop players who want to play for us. Traveling to Townsville! Whether you look it as a kid looking after his own interests or not is plainly the actions of a player who is not fully focused on doing their best for the Broncos this year.

We need to stamp this shit out now. This sort of backhanded slap is saying yeh thanks for developing my game, thanks for giving me my NRL debut, thanks for looking after me by giving me a spell in Qcup to ensure I was not overworked in 1st grade, but now I'll look around and see what i can grab off the back of the fame the Broncos have given me. Little sniveling ****.

It's part of negotiating process these days and it's why we need a trade window and it needs to be when the contract is up, not a fucking year before.
Can't blame Dearden or his manager
It's such bullshit how poorly managed the NRL actually is.

The US have trade windows and free agent periods in every one of their sports with no hassles and yet here's the NRL pandering to player agents and media about how to run their own game.

Media dont want a free agent period, because they think it will limit their round the clock news to a 30 day period in the year.... in reality the talks and rumours will still occur year round it's just the signing itself will happen in a 30 day period.

And the second a player signs early all the talk is "untenable!!!, I'm hearing he could leave a year early, I'm hearing dogs have made a request to Penrith to release Burton early" bullshit bullshit bullshit

US athletes dont have any issues with playing out the length of their contracts and doing free agency in a 1-2 month period and some of those deals are worth more than the entirety of the NRL cap across the game... and in soccer/ football anyone wanting to leave early rewards the club with a massive transfer fee.

In NRL clubs are heavily disadvantaged if a player signs elsewhere

This 💯

1000% yes. Trials are where dreams are made. Big hopes riding on Reece Walsh.
Absolutely! This kid is gonna be something in a couple of years time, if not sooner. Big Mal will be going hard for him to get him back on the coast, no doubt about that. Scotty Sattler, who watches a lot of Qld Cup, rates him as better than KHunt at the same age and the closest thing he has seen to Slater. We'll see, but looks extremely promising. I'd say Isaako is on borrowed time for sure.

We have another the next *enter superstar player here* ... this time it it the next Billy Slater. Badel is refering to Reece Walsh. he also managed a cheeky comparison to Locky and Karmichael Hunt

then he talks to Mal talking about how he should be a Titan and he wants to poach him:

quotes from Meninga

“Reece is a special kid,”

“To be honest, I was a bit dirty we lost him to the Broncos because he is a Gold Coast kid and he should be in our system.

“He was with Keebra Park and the Broncos managed to get him on a development contract.

“If Reece is off-contract, we’d be interested in getting him back. I’m mindful we have AJ Brimson on our books already, but Reece can really play the game.”

quotes from Scott Sattler

“Reece Walsh is going to be an NRL sensation. He is the closest thing I have seen to Billy Slater,” he said.

“He has amazing speed and blinding acceleration and a similar running style to Billy.

“I first saw Reece playing for Keebra Park when he was 15. He just had this beautiful deception and awareness for the game. He didn’t mind contact and he covers a lot of territory at the back. Returning the ball, he would pick up top speed in three or four metres.

“Reece is the feelgood story the Broncos need. He has been in their junior ranks for a couple of years. Karmichael Hunt made his debut at 17 for the Broncos and he had some amazing attributes, but I reckon Reece has more at the same age.

“He is a fully-fledged fullback and I believe he is good enough to be playing NRL this year.”

quotes from TPJ

“Reece has had a crazy off-season and he will be one to watch this year,” Pangai Jnr said.

“Once he gets the balance of his game right, he is going to be special.

“He likes to attack on every play but when he gets that balance right, he will be brilliant.

“He is bloody tough, he stops a lot of tries at training so he‘s not afraid to put his body on the line.

“He has a huge future in the game.”

Very Hunt-like in some of those clips.

Can we please sign him to at least a three year deal now? I just don’t want to go through the same shit of half a dozen teams chasing him as he only has one year to go before he is off contract. To tell the truth all the clickbait, rumours and BS printed by the media of late has really put me off the whole game.

Berrell is one of those players who never kicked on. He came into NYC with a big reputation and he was a fixture in the junior rep teams, but he just wasn't as effective as he should have been. He was heavily involved in the Broncos attack, but by and large it seemed like he was just getting in the way of Taylor, Paia'Aua and the Nikorimas.

In comparison, Andrew McCullough looked like Cameron Smith 2.0 in the NYC which was incredible considering he was a Phillip Lee style lock forward coming through the grades.

At QCup he's largely filled the utility role for the Seagulls, filling in as a 6 or a 13 where he's just linking with other players. He'll most likely find himself in the 9 jersey following the tragic passing of Cronin.

The club's absolutely done if they lose Walsh. If Cobbo is a better 1 then so be it, Walsh has all the tools to be a game winning 6.

You gotta feel sorry for poor old Tesi Niu.

He's the next Lockyer and off contract next year, but after a handful of games apparently he's on the scrap heap and everyone's after the 17yr next Billy Slater

Tesi has been centre and fullback in juniors, I think the Lockyer comparison is more about his work ethic and training habits.

Nothing I've seen from Tesi has justified his hype. Q Cup, last season he seems serviceable at best. Would like to be wrong but we'll see.
