RANT Broncos Realistic Spine options for the Next year or so

Wighton had all the tools around him to do his business in the halves - experienced halfbacks, gun hooker and fullback.
Staggs would have Turpin, still developing Dearden and Isaako or whatever.
That we know of , and who says Staggs will go straight into the 6 . It's all here say atm

His service lately has been flat out awful. I’m pretty sure I remember seeing Dearden or Milf have a go at him at one point after yet another shit ball that someone had to reach above their head for. I can’t believe we didn’t go hard for BSmith.
I think B. Smith is not the right call either. I think you would see a very different and less effective player out of the Storm system and I don't know that he is an 80 minute hooker.

I would be going hard at Grant, Mahoney or one of the Braileys.

I’m also not keen for smith unless it’s for playing lock

For 2021:
Immediately I would bring in Karmichael Hunt and start experimenting with him at centre, 5/8 and utility (Like Benji) at training.

I would see if Widdop wants to join us immediately on a budget contract with an option in the clubs favor for 2022 if he plays well and stays injury free. Realistically this year would be unlikely unless Croft or Milf would be interested in a swap.

For 2022:
7 is main priority. Then a 9. This would be the my goal if we could free up the cap space.
1. Isaako
6. Dearden
7. Reynolds/Johnson
9. Smith/Clark
14. Turpin
*KHunt/Widdop possibly in there somewhere if they come in 2021 and go alright. Unlikely though...

Realistically we will probably only be able to afford one marquee player and I have a feeling Smith will probably stay at Melb for 2022. And I don't know alot about Clark other than him being highly rated.

Alternatively, a cheaper option would be
9. Turpin
14. Mann/Cotter/Watson/Starling/Paix/Walters/KHunt
Realistically it will probably be 14. Walters/Paix.

I would also be interested in Drinkwater at fullback if we didn't spend much on a utility like Walters.

Leave Herbie & Staggs at centre for now. They are so destructive there. Imagine how much better they will look with a competent half. Theres plenty of time left in their career to move them to 1 or 6 later down the track.
Just out of curiousity, how do you propose bringing all of these players in when we do not have the room in our squad to do so??

I’m also not keen for smith unless it’s for playing lock

This isn’t a shot at you but can we just please pick players in their positions? ITT we have centres playing fullback & 6 and hookers playing lock. Does any other team do this outside of freak occurrences like Wighton or young wingers before they play fullback?

What could have been in 3-4 years time if we had competent management and a competent recruiting and retention team:

1. Walsh
2. Isaako
3. Farnworth/Niu
4. Staggs
5. Coates
6. Dearden
7. Walker
8. Haas
9. Mahoney/Grant
10. Carrigan
11, Riki/Piakura
12. Fifita
13. TPJ
14. Flegler
15. Bullemore
16. Xavier Va'a
17. Corey Paix

I just don't see Isaako as a fullback, he has jack all involvement in set plays and has a terrible instinct to be in the spine, apart from a few line breaks I really don't see anything else he is a Centre/Wing player all day.

Herbie at Fullback is a bit experimental sure but he has good instincts, Can actually tackle and just seems like an Actual football player the type that wouldn't make a fool of themselves where ever you put them, they just want to play. He started as a Winger then moved to centre and looked just as good if not even better there as he gets more ball.

Our last GF win we had a bloody Centre at Fullback, it can be done.

Ah yes, what a wonderful 24 hrs it’s been to be a Bronco fan...spanked by a team led by Bennett and some randoms Gagai and Arrow, release Walsh early even after the Turner deal turned to ‘horse shit’...then if that wasn’t awesome enough, get to read how “Fifita skittles the Knights” and Walker put on a “game for the ages” as he orchestrated a 7 minute, 3 try comeback for the Rorters...excuse me while I lose my mind...

Yep, pretty sad. Defenestration is a real option at the moment.

And the Lions lost...again. Really sucks to be a Brisbane fan in most sports these days.

I’m right there with ya mate.

What sport do they play?
Called SR AU.
Better described this way - like the NRL they used to play against 15 other teams in a full comp but due to Covid the comps been broken up.
So now they're in their own pool separate from the real heavy weights of the comp, they are like the West Tigers and pooled against the likes of Bulldogs, Sea Eagles, Cowboys and our very own Broncos.
So there you go, that's the Reds for you 😂

My suggestion for a gettable spine in 2022 given player availability and salary cap limit:

1. Hynes- he has been working with slater and papenhuyzen, has ball skills, general play kicking game and good support play. He may not have the footwork of isaako but is more involved and will set up more opportunities for the team.

6. Dearden- if he is "the future of the club", in the interest of succession planning i think it is best that we bring in an experienced half for 2 years who can mentor him and demonstrate how to properly run a team on the field.

7. Reynolds/widdop- both have potential injury concerns but so do all players these days. Both are organisers, have good kicking games and leadership experience (all of which this team vitally needs).

9. Turpin- i dont think we are likely to pick up any other hookers this year, and if we carry a replacement hooker on the bench it could allow him to play his high intensity game. If we have a director like reynolds or widdop in the halves we may get by without a game managing 9.

14. Walters- cheap, could cover hooker, halves, 13 and backs at a pinch. Pretty good footy brain, good defender and decent ball skills. Or:
Levi- cheap, quick, crisp service and experienced. Would be good as a bench hooker to take advantage of tired defenders or as back up if turpin picks up and injury.

Obvioisly not the greatest spine but we have to be realistic with regards to the state of our cap and appeal to players at the moment
