What could have been in 3-4 years time if we had competent management and a competent recruiting and retention team:

1. Walsh
2. Isaako
3. Farnworth/Niu
4. Staggs
5. Coates
6. Dearden
7. Walker
8. Haas
9. Mahoney/Grant
10. Carrigan
11, Riki/Piakura
12. Fifita
13. TPJ
14. Flegler
15. Bullemore
16. Xavier Va'a
17. Corey Paix

Wooden spoon team ... at least once we get stripped of our points for massive salary cap breaches

Is it possible because he hasn't needed to? Your centre shouldn't be playing like a 5/8

That's a really good question and you are quite right. Staggs is an out and out centre at this stage of his career, so he doesn't need to play like a 5/8.

If that is the case, how, or rather why are people suggesting he'd make a good 5/8, if he hasn't shown any 5/8 skills/plays, because, he shouldn't be playing like a 5/8, which he doesn't anyway.

So, I'll contemplate him as a 5/8 after I get to see his passing game, all round kicking game, and how he plays eyes up footie.

Doesn't need to play as anything other then an instinct half that kicks now and then(which we already know he can kick).
The idea is he is good on the ball and giving him more ball can't hurt.

I’ll play devils advocate and say the pursuit of Reynolds is a major gamble. His body looks fragile and he doesn’t run into the line enough.

Given our hopeless predicament, it would be silly not to chase him (Read reported that we are in quiet conversations with his manager).

But to get him, we probably have to offer a 3 year contract in excess of 800k a year (and outbid up to six other desperate clubs including the cashed up Cowboys after Morgan’s retirement).

I know I’m stating the obvious above but he’s 31 this year. What length of contract is appropriate? I reckon Souths are wise to only offer him 1 year plus a 1 year option in the club’s favour (yes I know they aren’t as desperate and have other halves options). I would only risk a max 2 year contract, which means we might not get him. But that’s just my 2 cents.

1. The herbinator
6. Dearden
7. Reynolds
9. Clarke/Turpin or Paix

Throw some money at Reynolds and see how he goes. **** Milford and Croft off.

Hope we don't get Walter's kid. He's already shown that he won't drop a half who isn't performing unless they threaten to leave the club, and the guy is 27, if he was any good we would have heard about him 10 years ago.

Just can't agree with this. It's not just about Staggs, it's about the spine, and how he fits into it. I keep saying that no individual player is going to make much difference to our spine until all the players mesh and play as a unit, rather than expecting individuals to suddenly and for mine, magically transform our team performances in isolation.

For me it's all about combinations amongst the 1, 6, 7 and 9 which start with having some sort of shape where supports are pushing through and up around playmakers, which then has a flow on effect involving other support runners, say on the edges. Otherwise, you end up with, well, what we have now - playmakers stuck with the ball without supports, and expected to do something special on their own. In a game of rushing defence suffocating an attack, that's a recipe for a fail, exactly as we are failing.

Until we have a team doing a stack of work off and on the ball, we aren't going anywhere, no matter who plays 1,6,7,or 9, let alone with yet another rookie.

God I hate union. What a shit game that is.
I lived and breathed it growing up, the professional game fucking ruined it. Going down to a local game for a few tinnies is fucking good though, they still throw the ball around and run it.

Would you prefer to see Croft or Karmichael Hunt on the bench this Thursday night? He might only get 6 minutes.

Here's my take on Isaako. He has a lot of talent and very good skills however, my problem with his play is the he believes his own hype. Self portraits are usually coloured. Rather than helping the team as his absolute 1st priority, for mine, he instead helps himself - to show off. That try he scored with his amazing stepping against the Dogs was for mine, all ego. The better option was to look inside and pass to Herbie who was unmarked, and would have strolled in under the posts. This was the safest option. Isaako did not look to his inside. He saw an opportunity to show off his very good footwork. His ego came first, the team second.

Then, when he is put under serious pressure, he panics and either doesn't pass, kicks stupid or just takes a tackle when other options would have been better.

Because of this ego, which for mine is an example of the self entitlement a number of our players have, he just doesn't put in where it counts, like organising the defence on the line. He may have footy smarts but he doesn't show them. Because of this, I wonder if he is, at this stage, able to be coached. Coached to always look to support Haas as Paps and Teddy support their running forwards, or standing up or to the sides of a scrum ready to run an angle say, changing the point of attack, as Paps does so well.

I would have expected by now that he would have moved a lot further in his growth as a player than he has. He is for mine a very good player who could become so much better if he put himself second, and the team first.

As for Reynolds, absolutely. He is what we haven't had for as long as I can remember - an organising, game managing half back. I think a combination of Reynolds and Milford would be killer.

Lastly, again at this stage as I see it, we don't need a hooker to support Turps, We need a hooker who Turps can support, off the bench. If only we could lure Harry Grant here.
Agree ,I think this has been a major problem overlooked for quite some time . On how many occasions do we see players hogging the ball , wasting opportunities, when they should be instantly thinking of how to promote it to someone in a better position to take it , proving there's someone or two on the inside or outside pushing up on the play. Too many hit ups without any backup or support is unfortunately a hallmark of their attack . Other sides look to spread the ball and put effort ,on effort to putting themselves in a better position to constantly take the ball and make meters. This is basic shit .Its lazy unfit footballers plodding along , like Milford , a prime example of a player who should be hunting for that ball . Hot potato football gets them to think faster pass, act and move consistently through the ruck. It makes them better positional players and want to play for each other. The same can be said for defence as well . This is training the fundamentals into these blokes , and it should be flogged into them. We are too slow , and not combining with team work . It's back to basics with these blokes , and not this, hey look at me i just scored a try shit , if they can even produce one ! C'mon KW get ruthless because too many of your charges are underperforming .

Khunt comes into the side he has to start. There is no leader on the field in the team. Get him barking orders and putting a rocket up the squad.

I think so too, but I question his match fitness. No matter how many minutes he gets I can't see him being any more useless than Milford.

Especially when he gets the ball, and stuck like a shag on a rock, wondering where everyone has gone, gets smashed.
