Drop milford

The difference is, Milford is invisible for 75% of every game, on 3 times the money, and has a ton more experience than Dearden.

Dearden for sure has some work to do, but the dude is brand spanking new.

Yeah I’m not arguing all those points. What I’m saying is right now Milford is a much more dangerous player. Dearden isn’t offering anything. He has played a fair few games now and still looks out of his depth IMO

You pick players who give you the best chance of winning. Just my opinion but if we want to win Milford needs to be picked before Dearden at the moment

Look at what going back to Q Cup has done for Oates, maybe it will do the same for Milf. If he comes back though, he has to understand this is Brody's team now, he's second fiddle.

Milford may ha e more individual skill but his decision making is a huge issue in the team and often undoes much of the good work of others.. See how we actually built momentum tonight off of Crofts ability to follow a game plan (even with his very average skill set) and Deardens ability to stay out of the way.

Chris Sandow was one of the most dangerous attacking players of all time but he never played finals and his team won or lost depending on the luck of his bounces because he was uncoachable and relied purely on ass. Milf is the same. You’d be mad to play him.

You can't just use our best game of the season and say "well if we had Milford we win that game", the reason we weren't in positions on the field to apply that sort of sustained pressure in the first place is through the flaws of Milford

How on can you bring milford back into the team if there is a night and day difference once he's dropped.

It's as if the shackles were broken and they're learning how to trust each other again without someone going off-script and being a momentum killer.

Paul Crawly wrote an article that Anthony Milford and Luke Brooks have been the fall guys for their dud teams. Yeah bullshit. You don't see Kontoni Staggs getting the same treatment even though the Broncos are losing. The reason being is Staggs when healthy has played well. David Nofoaluma has won some admirers at the Tigers. Crawley case that he provided was pretty weak and the fact the Broncos were alot more competitive without Milford hurts his case even more.

People bring up Milford's salary and suggest that he wasn't ever a million dollar player which is why he's so criticized. The fact is though forget about him playing at $800,000 or $600,000 value. He is barely scraping at the $300,000 value which why he is getting so much heat.

I've had a pet theory for a long time about Milford. I wondered if there's a resentment amongst some of his teammates rooted in the comparatively large contract and a perceived slackness from Milford. Guys bleeding from tackling and watching halfarsed shoulder slapping from Milford. Something like loving your mate but being seriously pissed with them deep down inside. It did seem more teamlike the other night.

I do think Crofts team mates trust him to do his job defence-wise so that's a help. I think KW started the season with simple goals and really couldn't get there with Lodge and Haas out early. Having them back did mean we could play a very direct game, simply dominate the middle but it's only sustainable with plenty of fit players and a well utilized bench. It does make the halves job a lot easier and Croft should provide enough steady management and I'd expect Dearden to blossom after we start winning ugly.

I can see a mid table team developed by seasons end and the bones of a top four team next year. We absolutely must keep the new standard though and I'm stoked next game is in Darwin. It really will test KWs leadership skill. Getting everyone in the right head space will take some doing.

I think Milford's contract would have impacted on us retaining David Fifita. I'm not just talking about salary cap space. We are asking Fifita to take $200,000 less then Anthony Milford even though he's twice the player of Milford.

I think about someone like Haas, a brother doing the hard yards for half and the other guys on even less. Imagine being considered a better choice at 60% off. Croft on 3-400k and considered in better form. It's like they( the team ) bonded a bit more. Milford playing this weekend?

But, isn't that the thing? Milford is not an organiser and never has been. That is, for mine, part of the reason he has lost it - expected to do everything, then blamed for failing. He in fact wants to play 2nd fiddle with a proper game managing half. Thing is, we haven't got one, and I remain unconvinced that Croft is the organiser we need. I'll check back again after the Eels game.

As for Dearden staying out of the way, is that a good thing? When does he get involved, and how? Do we play with only one active edge?

You may be right about Milford and there are likely legitimate fails from other people but he also needs to be held accountable.

If he wants to play second fiddle, he should be on half of what he is on. His salary prevents being able to get someone else capable of playing chief playmaker. Yes, it isn’t his fault he was offered that much but he decided to accept it didn’t he.

Regardless of systemic failures (and there have been many over the last couple of years) he can’t blame anyone but himself for regularly dropping the ball, half or no efforts in tackles, poor training ethic and miskicks.

Well due to his age and the state of the NRL squad, ideally Dearden develops in Q cup but Milford is too detrimental to the main squad to allow that. So the next best thing is to have him have a heavily reduced role in the main team, so he can slowly develop there while minimising the pressure he’s under.

Start with simple directives such as “run first, defend well, kick only if needed” while the more experienced Croft does the game managing. Once the team improves their defence and the basics in attack are starting to improve, than you slowly add more complexities to the kids game.

To be honest I think Dearden has very deliberately not shown us any moments that makes us sit up and take notice. Well, almost nothing but I thought I glimpsed his 'next level' game. The place where he keeps his trick shots, his clever shit. I think he's keeping it in check in order to stay in first grade, to simply do his primary job. I have a feeling we should hang on to him and there may be more creativity available after he learns he's a permanent fixture.

The side delivers the best team performance in 2 years and the first thing people want to do is go back to what wasn't working? Give me a spell. There is a very distinct reason why the teams attitude looked so different on Thursday night. In face simply saying it was "different" is underplaying it. The attitude was night and day different.

Milford does not fit into this team. Nobody around him trusts him to make the right play or to be there to support them when they need him. When was the last time we made a linebreak and Milford was coming up on the inside to support? I legit can't remember. He is a lazy trainer and a lazy player, and getting a pass for this shit puts the rest of the side out of joint. They can see what we see, that Milf is an overpaid plodder and they fucking resent it. Does that sound like the healthiest thing for this side?

Absolutely well said

Yeah, there was a brief period against the rabbits where he seemed to take
It a bit personal and orchestrated a great little resurgence. Unfortunately a few errors occurred (Dearden included) and he went back into his shell and handed it back to Milford and the team went back to capitulating. Definitely a little glimpse to the type of player he could be with a bit more confidence and ownership
Of the team.

I have absolutely no issues with Milford being dropped, as I said in another post about it. It was the best thing for him and the team. I just don't like it when he becomes a convenient, uncritical go to explanation for the team's failures. He was certainly part of them, but some perspective is needed or other problems might be ignored. Anyway, I'm done with Milford until his future becomes clear.
