OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

Imagine leaving Brisbane (with Walters, Langer and next immortal Lockyer) to go hang with Thurston...? Wow.

Or a club who reportedly doesn't even give you an offer to one who has been pining for you for months with a clear pathway.

I agree the sky is not falling, but less than a week ago KW publicly declared we are not losing Dearden.
Unless there is some master plan at play that no one knows about except Kevvies inner circle, this just looks desperate and amateur.

First Fifita, now Dearden.
Both assured by the club in the weeks leading up to their signing elsewhere, that we 100% would not be losing them.
Its even worse this time around because Kevvie has also come out and publicly said Dearden is the future of this club.
Well i guess our future just walked out the door.

I'm not really worried about that either tbh. Kevvie owes the media nothing and the games he plays with them doesn't bother me one bit. When we haven't signed anyone, that's when I will worry.

In an ideal world, you'd want to have an experienced half AND Dearden, who the club have invested so much time into already. Dearden is struggling, but so is the rest of the side and he has absolutely no support.

The Broncos have not been an ideal world for years though, so it doesn't matter, we don't have said experienced half and don't look like we are getting one unless we massively overpay Reynolds, which ironically, we need to do.

Hunt can’t play until round 10 because of the train and trial deal, unless he gets upgraded to a top 30 contract.

Do they release Dearden straight away and give his spot to Hunt?

We don't need kids who aren't showing anything though, we need ready made first graders. Dearden may go well in a mature side, we aren't that, we are not a good fit for each other at present.
The club has to be able to demonstrate that it can develop it's talent and has a sense of direction. None of which was demonstrated throughout this fiasco.

I'm all for overpaying Reynolds, but he'd probably be partnered with an overpaid Staggs. I dunno how many years Reynolds has in him, but this is the kind of situation I posted above - I'd have played him with Dearden instead.

I can almost assure whatever little headline they are putting up has nothing to do with it, it will be as simple as the Cowboys offered him more

Pathway for a few games until they pop Drinkwater (after signing for further 12 months) back at 6 and Dearden back to QCup...:\

not giving them an official contract to sign is VERY different from not talking figures with the players manager.

i highly doubt any club goes to the trouble of drawing up a contract until they have an agreement of the wage.

Exactly. WHO has been held accountable after 2020? Not White, he was gone either way.

Seibold but he has been paid handsomely for screwing everything up. The last thing this side also needed was a rookie coach.

I personally think it'd resemble that Sout Park episode where the boys turn into cavemen and start grunting at eachother.
I’m more leaning towards the world of Warcraft episode where cartman takes an explosive shit all over his mum

How can you expect a sense of direction when the same people responsible for losing direction are still in their roles?
Well that's not entirely true as you've noted.

I'm just wrapping a bow on it and this whole scenario has been a terrible piece of business by the club.

Is this necessarily all on Kev though?
Maybe Dearden is just a shit **** & played us like a fiddle.... upping his $$$
IMO that's exactly what Dave did.
We don't know
Who knows mate.
This is from kevvie less than a week ago.

“Even if Tom did want to leave, which I‘m confident is not the case, the fact is he is contracted to us so that (releasing him to the Cowboys) won’t be happening.”

So KW now looks like he has no idea who is coming or going.
