OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

Has anyone mentioned that most of the Panthers current first grade team played together coming through the age groups? Just thought it was important that we should all know that at this moment in time.

I know some on here will say $3 million dollar contract over 3 years go Reynolds is too risky and paying overs at his age but we currently have a million dollar half playing in the ISC.

I know which one I’d rather. We could even offer $1.2 million for Reynolds if it took that to get him here and we’d still get more value with his wage than we are out of most of our current squad.

What we do in the market between now and September will determine what faith I have in our direction going forward. Early signs are far from promising

Reynolds is reluctant to move from Sydney. You offer him $1.2M & the chance to be the bloke that turns a club around and held in the same regard as Alan Langer. You offer him a job in coaching post career. You don’t just sell him $3M you sell him a life beyond football.

It’s being framed as we “lost him”, “sinking ship” etc, but if the club didn’t even offer him a contract it’s hard to believe they were that committed to keeping him. But of course that doesn’t make as good a story so they will just ignore it.

If I'm Kevie, I'm picking my best 17 every week as per normal. This notion of chucking a player down to reserve grade because he is playing elsewhere the following year is so 1980's. This rarely happens anymore and nor should it. Players changing clubs is a massive part of the game now and as a coach, you just have to adapt to it.

We should be asking the Cowboys to trade him for Drinkwater right now.

I'm torn on what to do with him. I think putting him in reserve grade would actually be good for him, so I'm a bit against it.

If I'm Kevvie, I'm making him 18th man every week so he doesn't get any footy at all.

The 18th man ploy is a fantastic idea. Because you can bet the Cowboys soon cotton on to what game we are playing and would realise their asset’s development is being stunted before they get him. Would give us more leverage for a player swap or compensation.

Time to get ruthless. Playing the nice guy card gets you walked over which is what every other team as well as player managers have done to us the last 18 months. Time to get in players that want to play for the club as well.

So....we should drop him from first grade and look at our other existing options. Its pointless keeping Deardon going.

Paix ....?

I'd give him some games at 7 in ISC and see how he goes.

I would argue he’s not in our best 17, the bloke has done absolutely fucking nothing

This is what has me scratching my head.
Kevvie comes out publicly stating Dearden is the future of the Broncos, yet apparently doesn't table any offers to him even though the Cowgirls up the road are circling with enticing offers.

Something is afoot.
Either the entire organization really is that terrible at the moment that there is a complete breakdown in all areas of the club that leads to losing the future of the Broncos.

Or there is some Tsun Tzu art of war level mind fuckery at play and we are about to announce some serious signings in the halves.

There is just no sense in announcing publicly that this kid is the future of the club without even offering him a contract in the face of other clubs publicly chasing him.

Maybe Dearden will be better with Townsend next to him but every part of his game just seems bog average.

Don't want to see him, Milford or Croft play again this year because they all suck and are not part of future plans (or at least they shouldn't be). Who else have got, Kelly and Paix...can't really get much worse than getting smashed every week can it?

I'll put everything I have on it being a complete breakdown rather than some great big masterplan that's about to unfold before our eyes from the same idiots who screw up every decision they have to make.

Does sound like one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing, or Kevvie just panics in front of the media and rambles without thinking.
