OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

Milford helped south’s to a 60 point win. Dearden helped us to a 46 point loss. Dearden sucks. I’d rather Asiata at 6 than Dearden (and I’d hate Asiata at 6).
Maybe we can release Dearden now for drink water.

I'm not Dearden's biggest fan but there is a big difference playing a top 4 NRL team compared to a bottom 4 ISC team

They didn’t offer that amount to him initially.
Where would the offer come from? For Christ sake we couldn't even pay for his Uber from Ipswich to Brisbane...
It highlights the complete ineptitude of the organisation across all levels.

Part of the problem we have with retention (and besides our clueless retention committee) is that every development player that makes it into the top 30 is made out by the Courier Fail journo's to be the next Lockyer. It immediately has their greedy player managers looking for top dollar and shopping them around to other clubs. I for one can't wait for a second team to start in Brisbane which will give the Courier Fail hacks something else to write about for awhile and we can fly under the radar a bit with our development squad like every other club. When DD starts I reckon his first job after sacking the existing retention committee should be to silence whoever is leaking all our contract dealings to the media.
I know Morris wouldn’t allow it, but I’d be banning Badel and any other journalist not named Chris Garry from the premises and all club/player areas. Including press and post-matches.

**** the press, and I’d be happy for them to Marshawn Lynch/Darius Boyd any interview if that doesn’t happen. Circle the wagons and don’t give these ***** anything for free. We’ve been used by the league for far too long

I know it’s not realistic, but I can dream

Chris Sandow
Tanah Boyd
Ryley Jacks
Ash Taylor
Luke Brooks
Kane Elgey

History is filled with halfbacks that half make it and fade, or never make it at all. And curiously Titans have burnt four of the “next big thing” in the past ten years...

There’ll be another. It just sucks right now!!

Correct but if Dearden turns out to be a gun we will hear about it for the next 20 years.

Anyone think Tom will be named tomorrow?
Kevvie has put a time frame on Milf in QCup and while he performed better this week he didn’t kick the door down to demand a spot in the 6. Kevvie would be loathed to back flip yet again and bring milf back, but can he really name this little fucking shit stained ****

Kev made a difficult but important decision and publicly stated his intentions, to go back on that would be a massive embarrassment and would be totally baffling - so there is no way Kev doesn’t name Milf at 6 this week.

And to think somebody was saying his girlfriend would probably stop him from moving to Townsville!

From now on, we need to make sure we get in players who are committed to being a Bronco, which is why i'd tell Staggs if he hasnt signed by tomorrow, he can look elsewhere. We are just being used as bargaining chips.

lol yeah he’s backed himself into a bit of a corner here

We’re already gonna cop that about Fifita, and likely Walsh. Dearden will at most be our Mitch Moses, while Fifita and maybe Walsh will be our Tedescos (in regards to Tigers).

I’m not that concerned to be honest, he played 22 games and has shown very little. I can think of 100 players that had a more exciting first 20 games than Tom has had and very few of them have turned into the type of player that teams never recover from losing.

Very few superstars took 20+ games to warm into showing anything in first grade. Cronk is the only exception.

The more players leave, the less the players who stay will play for the bloke either side of them.
There is more at stake here than just losing a few players.

These blokes all grew up playing footy together for the most part, and that is all falling apart at the broncos as they all depart in different directions.

The only upside is we are literally cleaning house on the fly this season, with more to come.
Rebuild from clean slate with just a few blokes left from this iteration of the Broncos.

Wouldn’t the contract have been signed 10 days ago?
Yep this has been over a week as a done deal, which means Kevvie came out and publicly said Dearden was the future of this club while Dearden was already on his way out.

Either Dearden has just been flat out lying to Kevvie right up to the 11th hour about his intentions or Kevvie is playing games with the media at the cost of looking the fool.
