THE COACH Kevin Walters

Back on to Kevvie, what are the collective thoughts on his performance to date. I think that at this stage it has to be marked as a negative accepting that he has been handed a shit sandwich along with the most difficult draw out of all of the teams.

Unless there is a marked improvement in the second half of this season and a better start to next year I doubt that he will get an extension (or perhaps see out next year).

If Kevvie can manage six wins this year - and I think he will - I'd mark this season as a success. I would be harsher next year, though, and with the turnover and additions to the team he needs to get them clicking and firing early or face Seibold's fate.

I totally agree with the common criticisms here - team selection and bench management are the biggest problems, along with commitment and organisation in defense. I think overall there have been some improvements, particularly in attacking structures and very occasionally in mindset and mental fortitude, but there is still a lot that is broken and Kevvie needs to start solving those problems as soon as possible, and preferably yesterday. A reconsideration of his support staff may be in order at year's end, and a few changes there could make a world of difference.

I hope that the team can string a few wins together in the back end of the season, and get a bit of positivity in place to carry in to 2022, because building that up from scratch again is going to be a monumental task.

I'm still in Kev's corner, though, and I'd absolutely love for him to succeed. Hopefully the #kevolution has just been postponed a year.

It may seem stupid to rest my hopes on one game but the roosters job we did gives me some confidence that Kevvie is making some improvements.

I think some are underselling just how bad we were last year. 15% win rate. Sure we’re only up to 25% this year but it’s tracking in the right direction. We’ve had the most fucked draw in the comp don’t forget which is fucked considering we’re the reigning spoon holders
Yep, that is entirely fair comment. I was hoping to see some incremental improvements each week such that you could see the improvement building over the course of the season, but that has not happened. Instead, we have the same inconsistency, up for some games like Penrith and the Roosters, then hopelessly poor and getting flogged again.

I was hoping that those floggings would have started to drop off, and although we were getting beaten, there were signs of structure and effort which reflected good coaching. That to my eye has not happened and I fear that halfway through the season those signs aren't there.

the increased use of the sin bin for at times minor offences hasn't helped things. hell, even some of the teams that are considered premiership contenders have been on the wrong side of a flogging

I still think the Panthers game was our best this season, cowboys and roosters were decent too.

I think the Roosters game is misleading, they got completely reffed out of the game. Not saying they didn’t deserve it based on the new rules but had that exact game been played under the rules that existed 3 weeks earlier, I don’t think we win. That being said, you can only play what’s in front of you and the team did that well - there was an obvious game plan on display and they followed it competently. This is one thing I do credit Kev with; a few games this year a game plan that is customised specifically for the weeks opponent has been obvious a few times and they have shown some success. It’s the fundamentals that are lacking at the moment.

The team really only needs to fix its defence and handling - the points are there. The poor bulldogs look useless both sides of the ball.

I loved the way the team defended against the Cowboys for most the game. It was the most effective wrestling and ruck control I’ve seen from the broncos in years. If we can replicate that every week we are easily top 8. The issue is so far we haven’t made any signings that will improve our defence.

The Draw is the part that I think consistently gets overlooked. We've realistically had the worst opening Draw of any club. Once that evens out a bit more I can see our win % starting to look much healthier.

I still don't see us making the finals but I think we can still fight our way out of the bottom 4 at least.
100%... the big concern I have now is how are the players doing mentally after that fucked draw.

For the most part I think the players have turned up for pretty well every game... and then last week happened.

I hope the back hasn't been broken because the draw is starting to ease up albeit at about Rd 16 when we get the sharks.

A true test of Kevvie's ability will be if he can get the boys up for the run home or if they are so shot mentally from the beat down created by the draw.

There have been some steps forward and then, with such an inexperienced and down in confidence roster, the unavoidable steps backward.

I wish we were doing better, but I am not overly surprised given where we are coming from and what we’ve been up against already this season.

There have also undoubtedly been some head scratchers at the selection table. I don’t mind the revolving door of halves, but other omissions / inclusions have been baffling to say the least.

So basically, it is pretty much what most people saw coming. Hopefully he can improve us next year, but there’s just as good a chance he won’t unfortunately.

Really hope I’m wrong. For the club and Walters personally.

I think Kev isn't trying to get into the top 8, he wants to win games but his priority is seeing what people can do. If he drops Coates the media would go crazy, he has to be dropped from Origin first. Its obvious to me mead was dropped so Cobbo can get game time.

I think we need to see something next year. A positive change in form and ladder position is a must for Kev to get more years.

I think now would’ve been the perfect time to drop Coates, you could just frame it as resting him after origin.

Yesh the only thing is that just buys you time, he would be expected to return. His form must be exposed. He get dropped from Origin if Green has any balls then from us soon after if he continues down the track he is on.

Crazy how Overated Coates is, even after that display alot of pundits still think he should be on the wing for QLD.

They just see Big, Fast Young winger must be good, despite the fact he is no skills, can't catch, Tackle or make meters.

Blows my mind that poor Meady gets dropped for this.

Yep, I would be feeling very dudded if I were Mead. Just his experience makes him more worthwhile than Coates. At least he is still invested in the fucking club he's playing for.

It should be a sack Kev thread me thinks.

**** me our defence was better under Seibold.

I'm not sure he's going to even make it to the end of this season if this keeps up.

We still need to give Glenn and others from the prevoius reigns the arse before Kev. It's like the hang over from those that played 20's and then NRL under Griffin getting shirty when he was booted. Sort the players out then the coach.
