Head scratcher from the titans imo thought fogarty was was involved in most of what was good at the titans over the last two years

I’ve been predicting the future is bright with Sexton, Weaver and Campbell but I wouldn’t be rushing them and assuming they’re going to shine. Fogarty can still have value.

Dont tell me the titans are starting to struggle for cap space 😳😳

I ththough Fogarty was playing pretty well for them, but knew a cap squeeze would be coming when it came to re-signings (Tino, Mo, Fogarty, Brimson, etc.)... didn't think it would come this quickly though.

If they let Fogarty go their spine next year will be extremely young and inexperienced

1. Campbell
6. Brimson
7. Sexton
9. Clarke?? (Bryant seems to young at this stage to bring in)

A lot of promise in that spine, but we know first hand what a reliance on youth and potential can bring.

Thoughts on what's happening @The Don

Depth will be tested as well if they lose Fogarty as well as Peachey and Taylor.

Brimson is becoming a good player but wouldn't bet money he will be fit for a full season and Campbell is a small body to withstand a full season...

Pretty sure our CEO has already come out and said Sexton will be our starting half next year. So at this point, Fogarty is just depth. It's a weird one because although we want some experience, he really has been pretty poor this year in general. There's just not a lot of variation to his game whatsoever and he struggled defensively.

I feel like fans are more than happy to put up with a bad game here or there from local juniors rather than stick with the same mediocrity Fogarty has been bringing. I'd have to see how much he's on before giving you an opinion though. I literally have no clue what he would've been offered. Think I saw this morning we've rejected the release anyway? You need to have at least one experienced player in your spine, you guys won't have that. I'm not even saying Fogarty is the answer there either but Brimson isn't and the reason I say that is that while he is an excellent fullback, he is entirely unknown at 6. If I were you guys, I'd be trying to get in a Turpin-type player and keeping Taylor on next to nothing. If the kids go past them, that is perfect but what happens if, as expected, they struggle with the week to week grind in their first / second seasons?

You guys really like to copy the Broncos don't you.

I was going to say exactly this. The Titans got to look at what a disaster putting all your money into your forwards and putting too many rookies in the spine. For some reason though instead of taking the warning they have used it as a template.

I thought Fogarty was reasonably good at providing the "boring" stuff this year. It's not flashy but its most definitely needed to get the team around the park. I can definitely see that his attacking output dropped this year, but I thought that was more about him just being the designated link man to Ash/Peach/Campbell rather than a drop off of his form, as I recall he still had periods where he was putting on attacking play.

Also have to remember that Ash was once the young superstar talent, until he suddenly wasn't... and it wasnt until Fogarty appeared and took the pressure off that Ash was able to become a useful footy player again.

I'm just wondering who is going to be the leader in that spine next year if Fogarty goes.

I think if I were a titans fan I probably would've wanted one more year of Fogarty to get a gauge on how Brimson goes at 6 and how Campbell goes across a full year at fullback.

Also have Sexton being the main man in ISC. I havent been following his progress so he may already be doing that... but I would want to make sure he's coming into the NRL knowing exactly what's required of him and having already been doing that at the lower level.

When he was coming into grade this year he still had Ash next to him (I believe??) and whilst Ash's form has been down for years he still knows what's required as a half and was able to relieve some of the pressure in attack and kicking. I think Sexton was mainly living on that right edge so the pressure wasnt all that high on him.

I'd want to know that Brimson or Campbell can be that foil before throwing Sexton in OR know that Sexton can do all of that on his own.

Maybe he can and there is no risk... but getting rid of Fogarty might mean there is no plan B.

Badel reporting that with the second Brisbane team imminent, the Titans are trying to lock down Tino for 4 or 5 years @ 800k per season

With no new quotes from anyone except for some Tino made 2 weeks ago about wanting to stay at the Titans for life. Impressive. The more I read these articles the more I realise how easy a journalism gig must be. Poor guys though, must get seriously boring writing the same thing over and over.

You’d have to make a game of it. How to keep one-upping yourself while having absolutely nothing new to write about. Which is most of the NRL media tbf

Why? It is a creative industry, you get to make up whatever you want but the real art is making it sounds somewhat plausible.

Pretty shit move from the Titans if they don't let him go. He'll get more money and presumably a longer deal, while I can't see the Titans re-signing him

Brent Read has suggest that the Raiders will use Hodgson as a bargaining chip to try and get the Titans to release Fogarty, although says that the Titans pursuit of Brandon Smith could throw a spanner into the works.

anyway, this is what he said:

“The Raiders were looking at Jamal Fogarty and the word was that he was going to ask permission to negotiate with the Raiders,” Read said on Triple M.

“Fogarty has two years left on his deal.

“The Titans have rung the Raiders and said there is no way we will be letting Jamal Fogarty go.

“There are other options for the Raiders. Dylan Brown was obviously on their radar. They have moved off Dylan Brown now because I think they think that is not going to happen.

“Channel Harris-Tavita is the latest guy they are looking at. He has got one year left on his deal at the Warriors.

“I think the Warriors would consider letting him go because they are looking to sign Luke Metcalf from Cronulla.

“Cronulla is digging in their heels so unless the Warriors get someone to replace Chanel they probably won’t let him go.”

-------
“I’ve got a bit of a curve-ball here a bit of left-field thinking,” Read said.

“Canberra want Jamal Fogarty and the Titans desperately need a hooker. They have needed a hooker for a long time.

“Josh Hodgson is in the last year of his deal in Canberra. What about a swap?

“There is an issue and it is the money because Hodgson is on a lot more money that Jamal Fogarty.

“But if you can somehow bridge that gap, the Titans desperately need a hooker.

“They have let Mitch Rein go and I think Erin Clark is the only hooker they have got.

“Josh Hodgson would be perfect for their forward pack I think.

“Alternatively Jamal Fogarty would be perfect for the Raiders because they just need an organising halfback.”

“The other issue is the Gold Coast are one of the clubs in for Brandon Smith,” Read said.

“He has got 12 more months left on his contract and you are probably not going to get him next year.

“If you give Josh Hodgson two years there might be an overlap with Brandon Smith, but we have seen the way Ricky Stuart has used Josh Hodgson this year.

“Starling has come on and Hodgson has moved to the back row or played in the halves so you could do that if they get Brandon Smith in 2023.”

That is some serious dribbling from Read there.

Apparently Raiders are after every half... except none of them are off contract... but they should consider swapping Hodgson for Fogarty... although money might be an issue (led to believe it's like $600k vs $150k)... also GC are trying to go after BSmith which would be an issue if they got Hodgson.

It was like reading ramblings from a conspiracy nut trying to weave together 14 different trains of thought.

I thought there was a rule against players being released from a contract to take up a more lucrative deal?
