Be that as it may, there will also be 16 other clubs with a heightened degree of vigilance when it comes to locking away their most prized talent.

They'll more than likely land one or two big ones but the vast majority of their inaugural squad will consist of 'the fish john west reject'.

I think you will be surprised who will be going there. They are going places. They will look for a steady first couple of years with Wayne establishing them and 3 top line players and build from their. They have the infrastructure as well to make an impact. I think the Storm will actually suffer when the Phins start their recruitment. 2 of Munster, NAS and Grant will end up there imo and dont be surprised if Tino's contract negotiations stall at the Titans. I heard 2 prominent Cowboys have also been sounded out as well amongst others.

The huge thing they have in their favour will be Wayne Bennett.

100% and I didn't think of this until a CEO pointed it out to me but the Dolphins will have a clean slate, $10 million to spend with no baggage and not inheriting any problems, no 300k over here or paying this player over there. They can sit down and plan their $10 million exactly how they want for the first four years.

That's massive.

The Recruitment team can sit and watch and make careful choices. With their ISC, HDC, MM and CC advantage too they should be laughing.

Not going to lie, i'm very excited about the future for the Dolphins and i can see them being me joint number one team in the NRL along with Brisbane. As you said, all the pieces are in place for them to do really well.

Does Columbian marching powder need to be put into the equation?

100% and the chance to be an inaugural player at a Wayne Bennett birthed club would be hugely appealing.

I think for even money, a lot of players would chose that team over the broncos in their current state.
If the Broncos are smart they will be pushing for an agreement around maximum players from each club they can buy. Would be hard to implement but I'm sure if the roosters or storm were worried the NRL would find a way to make it happen...

I wonder if that would be viable? If a player is out of contract i cant see them being restricted.

id be asking Bennett to create a job that doesn’t directly impact Kev’s head coaching role and then throwing obscene amounts of money at him.

We just need to get extensions done before the new imposter comes sniffing

Carrigan?

Nope, not Patty. They are obviously going to sound out some players off contract for 2023, and a few that arent. As i said before, i know of a couple of Cowboys players that have been informally contacted.

We don’t have any players I’d be that cut about losing in ‘23, and quite a few id gladly give them.

Farnworth and Patty are the only ones and I don’t think either would leave if they get fair offers from the broncos.

I do wonder if the NRL will allow the new club any quirks around contracted players .

It seems like BSmith is tight with Munster... and also off contract in 2023... and also wants to move to SEQ because his family is now here.

Also comes down to whether the plastics actually want Munster... Munster has said he wants to come, but do they want him now that he comes with a bit of baggage.

I mean they should want him as his profile and star appeal is sky high at the moment (as is Munster more often than not) and he is a QLD origin player to boot... so he's perfect to build around

Good point. After Munster's comments it was just kind of accepted that Munster will be one of their first signings. Will Wayne want him? Especially as Munster seems to have gone in to cruise mode, is he looking to play a Fifita brand of comfortable footy for a million a year?

I think Turpin being a Redcliffe old boy and Oates would be good signings for them from us, and maybe James if he stays injury free. Tabuai-Fidow is the big one i have heard about. Obviously Munster as well if Wayne ends up there, but i wouldnt rule out Manu either. They will struggle most to find a 7 i reckon though. I think most of their real top level signings you will see in place for 2024.

I agree and they’d be decent signings for them. They’re absolutely welcome to take them also. Wayne might even take Milford with him. Wayne might chuck Isaako on a wing too.

Milford would be a target, but i dont see room for him and Munster if he goes there. I thought maybe Kodi as well but he is another who is more a 6 than a 7. I think if they could get a decent spine for 2023, maybe Hammer, Munster and Brandon Smith they could be quite competitive.

They will have to make do with Turpin or maybe even Paix (who I would hate to lose and would only be willing to do so for Grant). Grant will be with us and B.Smith will stay at the storm (wishful thinking but it all sounds better when you sound like you are in the know).

Realistically, how long could Bennett be coaching the new team for? Prior to the kick off of the 2023 season he will be 73 years of age. They would have to be working on a succession plan from the outset as well.

The idea is, probably, to build a strong foundation and setup the next coach. I don't think he'll coach beyond 75 personally.
