OFFICIAL Blake Mozer re-signs

If you're going to lose your rag at me for daring to question Herbie's god status, you need to keep up with the conversation. I've been off Herbie's case for at least a month since he's attempted some rudimentary passes and that flick to Ezra last match was outrageous.

He can stay at centre as far as I'm concerned, and continue to improve as he has been doing. That side of the field isn't broken and the plan seems to be to get Oates the ball cutting out Herbie, anyway. It also seems to be the plan on the other side. So give your nuts a tug, it's not discrimination against precious Herbie.

But push comes to shove, if I were to shuffle the backline, I'd be leaving Te Maire at fullback, and switching Selwyn and Herbie.

As for no fullbacks coming through: what the ****? If you were to survey 100 ex-players and commentators on the game and ask who the Broncos fullback should be, 100 of them would say Selwyn Cobbo. 60 of them would say not to rush it, leave him on the wing for now. 40 would say do it now. My estimate would be 0 would say Herbie. It's not a me thing.

As for "developing a passing game" fullback is not the place to do that. You get fullback when you have your basics already sorted out. That's why Tesi and Jamayne were disasters. They were learning on the job.

If Kevvie wants to fart around with Herbie at fullback, now or in the off season, that's fine by me. He knows what he's doing. He's seen what skills his players have. All I can see is that Herbie is nowhere near top of that pecking order.
Please take the hint and **** off to the appropriate thread for this.

I watched Moz in his GF win he looked fairly unflappable and was a step or two ahead of the rest. The one thing that intrigues me though is will he be able to hold his own in the middle when he makes his step up.

I'm sure he's watched CS9 a lot to work out how to survive in the middle with an accountant's build. I'm also sure he'll be working with the Broncos strength and conditioning staff to put on another few kilos of muscle mass, but that's easier said than done for people who have an ectomorphic body type.

This for me is my main concern for him.
i think his height makes him look worse , and let's not forget he's only 17.

For sure, but he still reminds me more of a racing snake than a league player. I'm hoping his body does stand up to the rigours of the game as he does look a real good prospect for us.

They've done it with Brendan Piakura quite well he's put on a fair bit of size since I first seen him.
The club will be putting him on the right diets and programs to get him right for top grade and with the story that was going about how Mozer went down to his GF early to be right for the game tells me hes going to be doing all the right things in getting his body right for NRL.

Who do you think is the better of the two?

I haven't seen a huge amount of Smith but what I have seen for Penrith is he is very athletic- great cricket player too- played Australian U18 cricket too- first boy in 50 years to make the league and cricket side. He's already played Flegg so he's ahead of Mozer physically but he's 19 not 18 with Koroisau leaving it will be intersting to see if he plays NRL next year.

He's more like Grant or B.Smith. Could play second row.

I'm not sure about how that is going for Piakura though. He seems to be terribly fragile from the reports of @1910. Albeit he has missed a huge chunk of footy development because of Covid delays. I'm sure Ikin and co. now realise they have a bit of breathing space and are taking their time to make sure he's ready for first grade. Hope all the time and energy spent on him pays off as he does sound a great prospect.

Ah okay so he's a year ahead development wise, hopefully Blake works hard on his body especially in pre-season I can't recall if you said he's on a bulk up program to debut in Qcup later in the year or will he play colts?

He's getting ready to play Cup but I wouldn't be shocked if he plays a game of Colts before Origin just so he has a run. Bit hard to go into an game not playing for two months. At this stage he hasn't been near Souths since the end of MM.

Watched his highlights and didn't see him pass once. Looks like a good runner though.

You're being a bit harsh, most taller players look like they aren't carrying much muscle but you look back at Justin Hodges, he was always not only strong but deceptively quick, Selwyn Cobbo more recently is the same.

Broncos development chief Simon Scanlan:

“Blake is an outstanding young talent. One of the best we have ever had come through the Academy. He has a similar physique to Cameron Smith. He is tall for a hooker, he is lean up top but he has very strong legs, just like Cam Smith. He has so much time for a young bloke and rarely takes the wrong options. He is not a selfish player out of dummy half either."
“The big thing is he wants to win and he wants to be the best. When you have a kid who not only has talent but has the work ethic and desire to be the best, that’s when you get a star. Blake would want to play NRL tomorrow, but we will be patient with him. Reece Walsh was just as competitive and brave as Blake. I think he will debut in the NRL either next year or the year after, it’s up to ‘Kevvie’ ultimately, but I think he could handle the NRL next season.”

My favourite part of all that was hearing Reece Walsh is so competitive and brave haha... took the easy option to 1st grade and is now paying the price for it in multiple ways. Financial (his contract would be much bigger if he waited), rep (cobbo playing rep this week and he was behind walsh), and winning in the nrl, as well as location lol... I love that it BURNT him after last year everyone flying off at the handle about him like they do with every rookie haha he should have listened to Walters BIG TIME
