Stick to twitter son.

Lazo smashed his leg into a million pieces in England and never played again for the Broncos, his contract was done and with Webcke and Petero the Broncos and News were happy for Lazo to move along to Melbourne and pad out their roster.

Gilly didn't want to go, Ribot/Bennett moved him on. Alf even offered to take a pay cut to keep him but again they took the year early better than a year late route.
Is the point of this that no one ever left the Broncos of their own accord, and that no one wanted Lazarus to stay? What a crock of shit.

Super league went for one year…..what was that money back then anyway?

The contracts went longer. The cap was abolished and didn't really come back until 00 when those contracts were finished.

Those big guys were on 600k.

No the point was it was nothing like Haas, they never asked for a release- I see what you did there though- when discussing two players you changed it to everyone.

Lazo was 32 years old and coming off a broken leg the Broncos were happy for Lazo to go to Melbourne. They won the Grand Final with Thorn and Gee at front row without him and then backed it up again in 1998 with Webcke and Gee and with Petero on the bench so it was hardly a bad call.

Gilly they let him go it was purely the choice of the Broncos.

Whatever, I'm sure whatever point you're trying to make you must be right. So let's not derail the thread with yet another attempt at a trivia pissing contest. No one cares.

Fact is, retired players understand even better than current players how quickly the money dries up. They won't be mortally offended that Payne is trying to earn as much as he can. That's the subject here. Not specifics.

You cant just isolate selected parts for your argument.

The facts are:
He has a contract.
Wanted to change the contract.
Didn't get what he wanted.
Threw toys out of the cot and asked for a release.
Proceeded with 5x various other reasons after the fact which changed bi-daily.

He reneged on his commitment all in the chase of money immediately. Had he seen the contract through and then took himself to market - sure free game.

Great to get an unexpected win. Hook's sole game plan seemed to consist of trying to rough up Reynolds. Considering how many of our players were missing that is dead set embarrassing for the Dragons.
We do really need to do a better job of protecting him and stopping players getting to him when he is kicking.

I did consider his off field value and you are right, its worth something. I've read similar things about how he's a great club man.
Perhaps a staff job...... training....player management....etc etc. 100K?
Yeah exactly this. Sharper minds than mine will tell you the value of these guys to a club outside the 80 minutes we see them every week.
And if he's a guy the younger lads look up to and respect, you'd love to keep him involved with the club.

I know why fans are upset at him. I'm reasoning why some of the old boys mightn't think exactly the same way, as witnessed by them slapping him on the back. As per my original reply. If I'm wrong, do a better job of explaining them, not the fans.

Another thing to consider is: players play for a "team;" fans follow a "club." Club and team might look like the same thing, but they're not. They merely intersect for a moment.

The original context got lost here in the diversion down memory lane.

Since when do we take media speculation as fact?

The only reason he ever said was it was about setting up his daughter. All of the other reasons, they were from tweets from people in the media speculating.

Its fact, not speculation.
