There's some really interesting discussion about the rules in here - can we get a dedicated thread going?

I'd be keen to see a list of the rule changes that have occurred over the past 20 years.

The rule changes for us or the rule changes for the Storm and Panthers? Or the premiership fairytale rule changes for the Sharks and Rabbits?

We really stuffed this up. This was the set after the Jordan Pereira try and we had an opportunity to either score back-to-back tries or get a repeat set, instead Reyno comes up with a shit pass rather than pinning the ears back and going for the gap or putting a little grubber through and getting a repeat set. I feel like if we had got this right, we would have ran away with it.

Yeah that one really puzzled me why he didn’t have a go or at least keep moving it left instead of back to where almost every Titans player already was

The best piece of interjection I think the video ref ever did was when they called back that try earlier this year for a "knock on" when it was really just a 3 metre forward pass. Think it was the titans (possibly wrong here) from memory down their right side. Everyone knew they couldn't rule it a foreword pass but it was SO blatant that they had to do something so they just called it a knock on instead. Even the opposition was surprised they got it and happy to give it up

Yeah in the moment this situation was screaming for a grubber to the ingoal. I was really confused by Reynolds choice, as you said it was the worst of all available options.

I expect a lot of push back for saying this because Reynolds is such a weapon and we all love what he has brought to the club but he is making a lot of low % plays this season that were never in his game previously.

Maybe he is just having fun now the shackles of being Mr Cog in a machine have been taken off of him.

He’s still a beast though.

it was the right idea, completely switched the direction of attack. We had two men unmarked, we just dropped it.

I just screamed "WTF, JP!? Just go yourself!"

He's a unit and had a pretty open run at the line or at least getting a repeat set for offside.

Disagree

Look at how quickly the Titans were on Riki when he got the ball and he had to throw it straight at Jake from point blank

it was the wrong play

Looked to me like he was going for the loooong cut out pass to JP, but two stooges got in the way. If he hit his man there would probably have been a result.

The gap closed on reynolds but I think if he passes it to his left to mam and mam just makes a dart to the posts with some footwork on the retreating middle forwads we may have scored too.

I would say it's got a lot to do with the shackles being off and having more freedom to play eyes up footy.

Souths are very structured. They have their set plays and Reynolds played within that structure. With us it's different. We're not as structured and play more off the cuff so Reynolds has that freedom to make more low % plays which I don't mind. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but he's willing to back himself and have a crack which is what you want to see.

Are you thinking of the Ramien / Katoa one against us last year??

They ended up being able to rule it a knock on because he lost control of the ball and "tapped" it on.

Forward pass is all about how it leaves the hands, but a knock on can be from anything if they haven't got control of the ball

Regarding the Hetherington offside penalty, that was a bullshit call. This is the penalty.

There's no replay that shows Kobe offside so you have to look at the live play footage which clearly shows him as passive.

This is the offside rule and interpretation. An active offside player shall not encroach within 10, but Kobe is not active. He's passive and he does not influence the course of the game. Not only that, but Reynolds runs him onside so it should have been play on and our ball for an error by Brimson.

We would have had the ball in the attacking zone and we were a good chance of scoring a try from it.

I'm with you on this one, for sure. Seemed like the ref just thought something had happened, then used Hetherington as a carte blanche. Very hard to be sure about challenging that one in the moment, I reckon. Especially when Kobe took two steps forward before he was run on, then started backing up. Probably a call from the touchy, which is why the ref thought that. There is so much going on.

Bad call.
