Good, the quicker we move on from normalising bigotry toward race, sexuality, etc. the better :)
But not religion?

Seems to be the view here… the religion shield forces the NRL not to throw the Manly 7 under the bus… they can sit out with no punishment, except a huge amount of abuse they are being served.

Kinda seems like a religious belief that needs updating for the modern age I would say.. but there you have it, tolerance in action.

Hasn’t the battle for large scale general acceptance of different sexual orientation been won or well on the way to being won for some time? unless you plan on rounding up and executing all of the survivors. There is no shame in these lifestyle choices, so what is the need for all of these pride events?

Idk looked alot like what dylan napa was getting pinged for when i first saw it

I think the reaction from so many professional football players to not play in one of their clubs most important games of the year (because they don't want to have a rainbow on their jersey - and in turn have no problem with everything else printed on them), shows that acceptance of people sexual orientation in the NRL has a long way to go (and probably supports the need for support like this).

I do think that acceptance of factors that people are born with (which don't harm anyone), such as the colour of your skin, the gender you are attracted to, etc. trump anyone's religious beliefs (especially in an organisation such as the NRL, which does not align with any religion).

Imagine if players refused to wear the indigenous jersey based on religious reasons...

Warning. Do not hurt Panthers even if it's an accidental head clash.

Am I just seeing things or does Finucane's left shoulder contact the mouth of Crichton? Isn't this exactly like the Robati incident against the Dragons that effectively cost Brisbane any chance of a comeback against the Dragons?

I can't see how they can do a dedicated round to LGBT unless there is the option for players to wear that LGBT jersey and non-LGBT jersey. Just look at Manly, that's one team and they've essentially lost half of their team due to religious beliefs

TBH I didn't see it live and I haven't seen any replays. I'm just looking for an opportunity to rag on the Panthers, heard it was a head clash, and that was enough for me.

Nah , what he did was reckless .
If he head butted Crighton hard enough to draw blood . He probably caused a concussion as well .

Is taking the knee still a thing? Could consider introducing that next time they play the national anthem, or that isn’t played any more?
Do kiwis have to stand for our anthem?

A lot of this could have been avoided if the NRL had any common sense and just allowed the players to wear the jersey with the white stripes instead. You would hardly notice it when watching the game, you would be too focused on the play.

NRL have their rules about the jerseys being the same, but they could have thrown out for this week and a lot of this shit storm could have been avoided.

Manly's handling of this situation has been atrocious. Not only to not consult with the playing group when making the jersey, but when the shit storm started they send out the fucking coach and the captain to front it while they hide away in the background. Incompetence.
Sweep it under the rug. Keep postponing the issue.

The NRL definitely has the right intentions, but i personally think it would work much better as something along the lines of the all-star match, but have it on the Wednesday night of Grand final week, where they can really build into it and make a big statement with it. And possibly even open it up to Super League based players to offset any players that rule themselves out due to religious beliefs.

Could even do something a little lighthearted in terms of selection and have it that Gus plays selector for one side, Buzz the selector for the other for example. Then have the origin coaches coaching.

It's easy; you make it clear to your signings when they come to sign on to play that the NRL has a code of conduct that specifically states that "Rugby League is a game for all, with a place for all" and "participants must demonstrate the greatest levels of respect, protecting the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability/disability, sexual orientation, cultural background, or religion", and if they cannot do that then they should not sign. These players have breached their contract in relation to the code of conduct. Simple. It is clearly written in black and white and they CHOSE to join in that contract willingly. By doing so, they have effectively abandoned any rights to complain.

lucious lyon wtf GIF

What issue......?
The ideological battle between LGBTQ+ and religious zealots. This was a clear statement that there are players in the NRL who do not respect the rights of other people in the NRL. How is that unclear?

How about if the NRL started shoving religion down our throats as well.....?

Professional sport should not be used as a platform for perceived social injustices IMO.....

As long as when we release our pride jerseys there’s a brown stripe on our rainbow, in honour of copropheliacs, another sexually maligned and ridiculed minority who aren’t breaking any laws or doing anything that affects other people. These people have been unfairly marginalised for too long and I want them spoken about and supported. They should also add a c to the whole LGBQIHKOlAXD etc etc, whatever it is next year.

Why is it an issue......?

For a cause thats supposed to be about acceptance......it seems there is none, if you have a different POV
