Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Broncos can't control any of that, they can just control their program and the contract they have.

If they want a happy young 17-year-old playing good football, then they have to sell it to him.

If they can't turn it around then they're are going to have a kid sitting there doing nothing for three years or release him when it reaches a point when they have no choice.

Given they let go of Gray and see Karl as the future they're not going to release him so they have to fix it.

Again you're comparing two things I am not comparing- I haven't compared systems I have compared a coach saying you need happy players and you need to make them see they can be happy.

I don't disagree Kevvie should be stepping in here and honestly, unless he is a dufus, no doubt he has shown some initiative to do so.

Regardless, Karl seemed both happy and content all until...he got a new manager and a certain club started some shenanigans. I'm not really sure what the Broncos have done wrong here, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what has gone wrong.

What I am saying is that the difference IS the fact one side has a system backing it up, the other doesn't. The system IS what makes it work for the Lions and not for the Broncos.

Again, it's the same because you have to convince the player that your program, club and set up is what he wants/needs. He's clearly lost sight of that. Whether that is because he thinks it or been told it.

Karl can't see that at the moment. Someone has convinced him that Broncos are not what is best for him, and he's taken it.

Matthews knew and Ikin knows that a happy player very rarely wants to leave. There is some sort of disconnect there at the moment. Broncos need to show him.
The chicken sandwiches are better at Dolphin Oval ?

Clearly money and perhaps a chance to play NRL sooner are enough motivation to change clubs (alla Walsh).

Another factor that may be considered is the coaching situation comparing both clubs. Dolphins have Wayne for 23/24 then Kristian in 25 going forward. Next year 23 is Kevin’s last at the Broncos with no one else in the pipeline for 24 - yet.

Morris has stated Kevin will be employed on a year to year basis depending on his results.

I for one can see why Karl wants out. We are currently not a club in a position to offer what we once could - unfortunately.

I feel this Oloapu situation is pretty straight forward. Contract stays the same, but fine him for not showing up to training (fines equaling his pay).

Therefore he wastes the next 3 years sooking, and we don't lose a cent.

If he isnt fulfilling his contract its constant fines or a termination.

Doubtful he'd be training too much anyway, normally they start you on one day a week- Mozer last year did just Friday until into the New Year.

That doesn't sound like much... should be 7 days a week!

It wouldnt surprise me if they can only do that for so long. The key is if we do terminate him, then he still cant sign for anyone until his contract would have been up
Unless the NSWRL allow it

Thomas Flegler is likely to reject a big Manly offer (est. ~4 million over 6 years, starting in 2024) and stay with the Broncos:

“I have been at the Broncos since I was a kid and I don‘t plan on leaving. For myself, I need to play good footy, more importantly for the team rather than myself. You would be lying if you said you didn’t think about it, but I have been at the Broncos since I was 15 and this is home for me.”
“I haven’t thought about making a final decision at the moment. First things first is to have a good pre-season and train hard and then I guess we will get into those contract talks next year. I came through the Broncos under-20s with the majority of the NRL squad so I don’t see myself moving any time soon.”
“Nothing (that he gets penalized for) is intentional but I am an aggressive player and I’m not going to stop that. Some tackles will slip up or the ones that aren’t intentional are the hip drops, but that’s just the game we play in today. Things will happen accidentally, but I’m an aggressive guy and that’s the way I will continue to play. I do work on my discipline, it does let me down at times but I plan on staying on the field for the majority of the season.”
