Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

On top of that (the manner and circumstances of which the release was requested), payne was well paid well prior to proving himself (with minimal nrl experience and had just sustained a shoulder injury), and then his pay was increased (beyong his contractual agreement) in good faith. Then being the highest paid player in the club he requested another 200K a year, and then threw his toys out of the cott when he was told we would speak at the end of the season.

Palasia has previously taken unders to stay at the Broncos, delayed his request until the end of the season and the release was well discussed with the club behind closed doors before it was reported. Due to kevie's bench use, He is also only getting about 15 minutes of game time so I can't blame him from wanting some more opportunities.
I don’t remember Haas throwing his toys out the cot after he was told to wait until the end of the season? Pretty sure it all went quiet at that point

What, you don't consider asking for an immediate release after being told no, not throwing your toys out?

It was probably more his manager to be honest acting on Payne's 'behalf'.

I think you guys are getting the time line a bit wrong.

He asked for an immediate release, the club said no.
Toys were thrown from cot
Club said wait until the off season
Toys back in the cot for now

Yeah, toys are back in cot. He still threw then out mid season though. To his credit still played well, but poor form nonetheless.

Sorry, I was just replying to the guy above who said he threw them out after he was told to wait until the end of the season which wasn’t the case. It might be a bit pedantic to point that out but I think Haas deserves some credit for moving on once that convo was had.

I actually don't think he did play that well after it all went down but in fairness to him, he was playing with just about everything on his body busted.
The thing with Payne is that he’s such a freak that even if he’s phoning it in he’d be one of the best forwards on the field. It makes it so hard to tell when he’s injured or not putting in 100%

Yep theshed is right, I phrased it incorrectly, my bad. I just thought I should acknowledge my error before we derailed the thread.

Well aren't you the outlier in this forum haha. So many threads get derailed for 2 or 3 pages.

So.. Can we release Palasia early? When a player signs with another club I generally would prefer to get them out of the club asap and just replace them with someone who has got their mind on building the club's future. If we released Palasia early and signed someone like Rhyse Martin on a 2 year deal starting in 2023.. I'd be ecstatic.

Paynes contract saga had plenty of effect on this team. It's still not resolved and I reckon there will be more drama around him.
Gee whiz, you're probably right. The only thing that got him to take a step back was the shame he felt from getting booed by a suncorp crowd. Not sure if after that it was genuine humility or he was doing some damage control.

You have an inside word regarding this or just the obvious from what is publicly available ?

How long is his mum in the slammer for? That will probably factor in pretty heavily.
