OFFICIAL Walsh signs with the Broncos until 2025

Personally I'd love Walsh to be selected as 1. He's the sort of player who will thrive in origin and he would learn a lot from Slater.
Selected for Origin camp. Ponga gets selected to play. Goes back to play with Broncos with all the knowledge of both training with Slater but also opposed training with Ponga. So good.

Surely Mam is on a fast trajectory past Dearden though. Walsh is definitely fullback in waiting should Ponga be unavailable which is looking more and more likely.
The only question now is how do we make Reynolds QLD eligible

I can't agree at all with the anti-Broncos agenda, especially when the likes of Coates and Cobbo were rushed into the team.
Historically for years.... haven't the Broncs been raped of players during the SOO period? Makes no sense to suggest Brisbane players don;t get picked for SOO.

Even if he is in Slaters plans a one on one session every now and then would be great. Like what he has done what Paps and Hynes

I would prefer if our younger players avoided origin. I see the benefit long term, but I fear another fade out for the Broncos due to burnout/fatigue if Mam, Walsh and Cobbo get selected.

Always comes with a large grain of salt (1st game for Brisbane) but early signs for Walsh - encouraging.

Ive seen so many of our young guys get hyped to the moon far to early in their careers, i dont want the same to happen to Recce.

But, for a modern NRL fullback, you do need a couple of indisputable elements to your game.

Firstly, you need to be able to count numbers short side and open.

Recce sees a 5 v 4 developing on the short side, comes to first receiver and then with the ball in 2 hands runs at a retreating defence.

Thats some good metres to get in a attacking position.

Herbie gets his line running mixed up here though...

Another element is your speed and acceleration with and without the ball. Yeh - Recce has that covered.

Better decoy run here by Capewell pulls the 7 in allowing Recce the space to run on the outside of his man and then release Oates.

Mam is also quick, helps...again though, ball in 2 hands creating doubt to a retreating defence.

Note this has focussed on the left edge. With Oates out we need to see if Arthurs can replicate the same line running and understanding with Recce? Hopefully they are already starting this process.

So far, in attack, so good.

When will we see him link up on the right? Is he the answer to unlocking Staggs with good decoys, line running and early ball?

I love your breakdowns, brother. I just wanted to point out that in the first video, just after Reece turns around and sprays Capewell for not being in position. Herbie engaged Feldt and I think Reece wanted Capewell flatter to engage the all the defenders to give him a little more time.

Second, he put Arthars away in almost the exact same way as Oates later in the match for Ezra's second try. It's not a problem here, IMO. The tester will be the disallowed Herbie try where Oates ran inside and he gets the ball behind Oates.

Nice write up mate, must be a lot of work to go through the games and create the gifs

The way Walsh can just explode in acceleration from a jog makes him easily able to attract multiple defenders when he does a diagonal run which as long as he gets the ball out is an easy line break, I think Arthars might work better for this than Oates because he has more speed as well as Herbie and Mam being on that side we can easily overload the edge with tonnes of speed options.

That one-two punch of Walsh and Mam is going to cause every single team all sorts of headaches.

I think it's a good thing that Walsh goes for the line a few times early to put the defence in two minds when ever he has the ball and then they instinctively will just drop back in defence when he goes for a setup play making it easier for the kill.

The only alternative for the defence is the jam but with a player as fast as him that's a massive risk that can easily create a gaping hole to make it even easier.

No doubt though Teams will be studying everything he does now to look for counters.

While i do appreciate the sentiments, i must say its not me that does those.

Ive mentioned this before last season, please check out Rugby League Writers website.

Best league analysts site out there. They have turbo-charged my understanding of the game and the predominate trends in the game...

I just add some paragraphs here and there....hoping to enlighten our Bronco HQ bretheren...

We probably need to temper the Walsh origin talk.

He's had one great game. Last year he was quite inconsistent and had a fair few issues with his defence at the Warriors. Lets see where he is in 6 weeks time before we start considering him as Ponga's back up.

For what its worth, I think he is still comfortably behind Brimson, although that could change over the next three months. Then its also worth factoring in that the media are already pushing the Hammer agenda. If he continues to have the impact he is having its quite likely he will be right in the mix too.
