Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Haas knows that either the Dolphins will offer 1.5 million a season or the Roosters will give him whatever he wants and more. A money hungry guy with a moron manager isn’t going to take half that to stay at Brissy.

Dunno about that .
He is the head of his family . Now with his mum in custody he would be even more responsible . I can`t see him moving to Sydney and leaving his siblings in Brissie .

I can't see Payne having any issues moving if the money is right. His Dad is luckily still around for his other siblings so I can't see it being much of an issue, especially if Uncle Nick plays a part in his move.

Yep, we aren't gong to keep Payne on the cheap, we are going to have to pay up big time or he'll either be earning RoosterBux playing golf or rolling in cash from The Dolphins.

Haas will undoubtedly want the biggest contract he can possibly get. I hope we're too smart to give it to him, but I'm sure some other desperate, average team will. Paying Payne what he wants ($1m+) essentially cripples the rest of the team and whoever signs him on massive overs will likely struggle to be competitive while paying a front rower such huge money.

Glad we have Patty who we can focus on retaining instead. Haas is an undeniable talent but also a total wildcard and mercenary. Patty may not be as dynamic but he's a true leader, is smart and dedicated... I know which one I want at our club long term.

The only way I could stomach paying Haas upwards of $800k is if he continues to develop that offload that we saw last week... That sort of play is truly game-changing.

8. Jensen
10. Carrigan
13. Hetherington

That is what I reckon we end up with.

The danger is the $$$$$ for Haas. If He's worried about money, he will leave - plain and simple. Given the events that have occurred for him Dolphins would be a quick and easy salary to replace either of the Bromwich/Kaufusi ages.

Roosters will be at max 900-1.0m depending on Ted/JWH. They will most likely be gone by 25, so they will have cap space by then. Talk is that JWH will sign another year and retire. Ted is slowing down and also considering retirement at end of contract - his body i'snt friendly to him ATM.

When did haas switch management?
I always though the upgrade was only ever mentioned because they werent getting a cut of his currant contract

Under the latest increased cap I don't think $1mil is unrealistic for Payne, the problem is his manager is probably now going to be asking $1.5mil.....which is too much IMO.

Dolphins will be looking to replace their aging forwards like Bromwich, Kaufusi, Wallace etc for 2025 when Payne is available. The performance so far (if only 3 rounds) of Hammer, Katoa and JMK has possibly put the need for a franchise spine signing on ice so they can really go hard for Haas.

He will either be our most expensive player in 2025 or the Dolphins most expensive player.

Sure he has had some rough moments at the club but the club has made the choice to stand by him and on the field he can rarely be faulted, even in the Titans game where he was booed he was instrumental in our comeback. You are either forgiven for past deeds or you are not, the club has clearly forgiven Haas so shouldn't impact his worth come contract time.

I'd argue Payne isnt better. They bring different things to the table. Payne makes heaps of meters, which isnt the be all and end all of everything. It remains to be seen if he can add what he did in that last 10 mins last week consistently. Right now i think Patty has more strings to his bow, he's just not as good an athlete as Payne is.
What strings does Patty have? I love Patty and think he is a good prop, but he is still an absolute handbrake on the attack when we are inside the 20m. He needs to develop a pass or offload, just the same as Payne needs to.

He's already got it. His passing and offloading was good last year.

Watch Carrigan when we are attacking the line. He is horrible.

He's fine, but if we are expecting a prop/lock to be running our attack we have got issues as it is. People always used to have a go at Moose for getting the ball late in the tackle count for a hit up but you cant blame players like that if the halves and hooker are shoveling the ball off to them in that situation. Forwards are there to lay a platform, your halfback or hooker should be directing the plays.

i actually dont mind carrigans ballplaying before the line i think he is also one that passes out the back for the sweep play to arey

I'm not saying he should be running the attack, probably the opposite. I questioned what strings to his bow he had that Haas doesn't.
