Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I'm not saying he should be running the attack, probably the opposite. I questioned what strings to his bow he had that Haas doesn't.
Payne for me has coasted on along at a still good level doing the same things he has always done, using his immense athletic ability to make big meters, but i still feel at the moment that is sometimes a hindrance as he continues to fight for every little meter instead of just getting to the play the ball.Making big meters doesnt always make you the best forward. That last 10 mins against the dragons, as i said at the time, are a glimpse of what we should expect from him in the future. If he can add that on a consistent basis, and add a bit more physicality, we then have the best forward running around in the NRL.

Pats a much smarter footy player and i think he's far more aware of the bigger picture in games. His ball playing and offloading are more well rounded than Paynes. I think he's worked on his game and improved where he had weaknesses, thats something i havent seen enough of with Payne. He's got more physicality in his game ( thats a big one i think Haas needs to improve on ). He's a big game player who has stepped up to the plate in the biggest arena in our game. He's a better leader.

Away from the playing side he's just a better face and ambassador for the Broncos. He's also better looking and his hair is superior.

Payne haas coasting ! absolute dribble.

What strings does Patty have? I love Patty and think he is a good prop, but he is still an absolute handbrake on the attack when we are inside the 20m. He needs to develop a pass or offload, just the same as Payne needs to.
Obviously he's talking about patty Cummins. Do you even watch the broncos?

my 2 cents on Haas and getting him signed to a new contract.

Firstly, as you all know I was one of the more vocal opponent's of Haas last year during the contract dispute saga.

I do believe that he has learned from that situation. (I do wish he'd get rid of his manager who gave him such bad advice.)

now, what we need to remember is that Payne Haas is only 23, still about 5 years from when props tend to hit their primes. he's now not only a meter eater, but he also has started to find an offload and hit's his front quicker ... do we really want this man playing for the opposition.

even, when the fans turned on him (and rightly so) he was still close to our best player, even though his form dropped ever so slightly.

we shouldn't be comparing Haas and Carrigan. we should be doing what it takes keep them both and build our packs around them.

I'm not as convinced as some other that he is ready to walk out on us (maybe the negativity is just force of habit). but:

The way the team supported him last year, the fact he is playing footy with his best friend (Patty), the fact that his family situation and personal circumstances have changed, the fact that he's likely realised that to get the halves money he'd need to forgo finals and move to a basket-case club (like the Tigers) all point to us being in a great position to keep him.

we'll offer him a fair deal for a prop of his standing. and it should be enough to get him over the line. $1 million a year under the new salary cap is a reasonable figure, IMO.

I'm also not convinced the Dolphins will give him an offer significantly bigger (like halves money). Bennett typically doesn't pay big money for props. the Phins will soon realise that they still need to get a marquee spine player, they've just picked up Flegs and Herbie for big money and Gilbert will need a sizable upgrade when he is off contract (same time as Haas, BTW)

sorry for the long post 😁

i actually dont mind carrigans ballplaying before the line i think he is also one that passes out the back for the sweep play to arey

Before the line is fine, but he needs to get out of first receiver inside the attacking 20. We need a plan for him as at the moment he doesn't know whether to pass or run and he gets tackled and/or the play dies. It's wasting a tackle and field position

id have to go back and watch but there could be reasons for taking the tackle in instances like those pressure on reynolds an out of position forward.in the end as long as we are scoring points of those plays that do go out the back inside the 20m im not to concerned.

Payne Haas is a once in a lifetime like player who should be treated accordingly. Didn’t say paid accordingly. There isn’t a club in the NRL who could afford such luxury but there are those who will try and some that will find a way to make the outrageous offer. The ball is wholly and solely in his court and clearly his future lies in what road Payne decides to take.

He can take the roads south to instant wealth and comfortable football at the Titans or to the Roosters (minus the comfortable). The Hornibrook Highway to Wayne, Tom and Herbie.
Or he can stay at Redhill with his mates, earn a comparable amount over time and become a one club Broncos legend.

It will be his choice but unfortunately it will ultimately come down to the pressure applied by his influencers. Personally I'd love to see him stay. **** his influencers, Wayne included.

I know there have been a couple of comments recently in the forum but is there any weight to the chatter about the Broncs "interest" in Kruise Leeming .. and do we need a hooker? ... just askin'

Zero Tackle has him going to the Cows.

On Leeming. 💯 we need him IF:
1) comes in on a budget
2) we keep Paix and flick Billy
3) most important, he doesn’t hinder THE FUTURE that is Mozer!

Thonk the cows flatout denied that today citing that they have Granville and robson as their hooker options, who knows though lol

Jai Hansen too- Colts hooker last year for the BH and playing ISC now off the bench. They moved him to a development contract this season. He's a smart hooker was great in Colts.

not to familiar with the lower grades but would the dolphins be a destination he may end up,they have some cash and he would be a upgrade over jmk and knik you would think?

Well rule him out then
Billy has still got another year on his contract and Paix only just re signed for another 3 years

Yeah I know about Paix, which I think is great. Moving Billy to Norths or one of the feeder teams, let the contract run out then off to the Fins 😄

He is a CQ kid and is playing Cup and Granville is getting on. If I was an 18 year old hooker I wouldn’t be going anywhere.
