PLAYER Selwyn Cobbo

The Cobbo miss was weird...

Was furious when watching it live and still not completely sure what happened after only seeing it once or twice properly, but it wasn't a great look

He looked like he was about to jump for it, but saw Tesi was there lowering the shoulder for a hit and pulled out at the last second.

Maybe he was thinking his legs were about to be taken out from under him if he jumped... so he pulled out at the last second.

I think the dolphins players were basically under the ball when it was coming down... so if he jumps he's trying go over them and he couldn't really get himself under where the ball was landing because they're all there.

He got himself into a poor position for the bomb (looking to take it aerially but the take off area was too crowded), panicked and came up with a horrendous looking play.

He didn’t **** up. He gave up.

Autism is known as a mental disability .

Old mate earlier said ; fat , lazy and autistic . That`s a pretty nasty slur IMO .
So you still haven’t shown where I have said this or removed the post, so you are just a liar?

OK , I got this wrong .
Confused two posts and combined them . The proper quote was fat , lazy , half wit .

The autism post was a separate incident . Apology .

Bombed try ?
Not every day a front rower lying on the ground after a collision reaches out and strips the ball in the act of scoring .

Get real .

Yes, he bombed a try. He did all the hard work - really really well - and not many others in the comp could have fended off the defenders coming across to give himself to space to work in. That part was pure brilliance.

But if you're going to hurdle over defenders on the ground to attempt to score, you have to expect interference from them. He didn't, and lost the ball as a result - bombed try.

I expect he will learn from that. I'm not out here crucifying him. He is young and still has a lot to learn. He does an awful lot of good, his tough runs are really important and I love that he keeps getting involved.

I'm simply voicing my concern about his temperament and personality, and whether he has what it takes mentally to be a great footballer. His physical abilities are not in question. He's 20, he absolutely can get there, I just don't know if he will. Others may have a different opinion, this is mine. Based on the podcast, the being late to training, the sneaking out of a game we were being belted in, etc.

That letting the ball bounce was bad but the rest of the game he was solid took alot of tough carries.
Agreed. But that one drop from him opened the door for them to score points.

Until then, we had complete control on them & it looked like they won’t be scoring points at all. Cobbo had other ideas. He will learn from it though.

I said this in another thread .. before I saw this one.

"Compare both the man, and his mannerisms, and the player before and after he was knocked out in Origin. I think that's where the answer lays."

Please think about it .. and get back to me with your thoughts.

Cobbos stats are good and he does do alot of work out of our end, but that catch he refused to make is alarming from a Mentality perspective and shouldn't just be brushed off as simply one missed catch.

Mentality is everything in the game and having a player do that can seed doubt in other players, it's not like Cobbo hasn't done a tough catch before either which makes it odd.

Take that away though and his game was good.

I had an issue with his work ethic well before he played Origin and with good reason. He’s not a driven person and he doesn’t think he needs to improve
Could you maybe give me some examples of the 'before' perceived issues so I can try to understand you a little better?

From what I saw and read, everyone bar nsw was absolutely thrilled that he had been selected. There was nothing but positivity surrounding him. He was absolutely electric in everything he did. And it showed in how happy he was.

I'm actually trying to locate an article I read some weeks after the concussion where he stated that "all he wanted to do was get as far away from League as possible."

Such a stark contrast aye.

This is the thing, he screwed up not going for that catch and almost straight away, he got back in there to take several tough runs. I don't buy for a second he doesn't want to improve / doesn't care / is uncoachable, that to me is offensive to the kid.

And this is the point, he's a kid and at the moment, he is rocks or diamonds, but he is also very, very shy. The fact is though, when he does something dumb, he immediately gets up and tries to make up for it, this is not the hallmark of a guy who is any of the things mentioned in the above paragraph.

We have an absolute weapon in the making in this kid, get behind him, don't tear him down. Also, don't expect him to be the finished project as an immature 20 year old kid.

We are 4-0 but apparently, all of:
- Cobbo (apparently uncoachable and unforgiveable for some stupid reason)
- Capewell (doesn't tackle, caught out all the time)
- Riki (useless, powderpuff)
- Reynolds (over the hill, terrible this season)
- Farnworth (doesn't pass)
- Staggs (doesn't do anything, lazy, doesn't care)
- Carrigan (kills the play on the fourth, doesn't score tries)
- Arthars (kicks for himself even though it was Herbie, bombed a try)
- Walters (only in the team because of nepotism, insert three hundred threads worth of reasons here)
- Paix (no better than Walters, gassed after 5 minutes)

Should all be dropped. Who would actually want to play for our 'fans'?

20 year olds are not kids. He shouldn’t be dropped, but he needs to improve his attitude massively. You don’t buy it, that’s fine. The bloke literally admitted he didn’t think the coach was very good. Sounds super coachable to me.

The idiots going on about dropping players for errors are just taking the piss, but I don't see the problem with talking about some issues they may have with some of their performances even if overall they are good.

I would say the Billy stuff is just ego driven drool though at this point, nothing new gets said and all conversations on that have done more laps in circles than Daytona.

I love everything about this post. Probably one of the best and most sensible posts I've ever read.

I don't disagree that we have been poor in patches but we are 4-0, we are doing a lot right AND we still have HEAPS of improvement left in us, this is exciting. Yet here we are, talking about one of our players essentially being a moron and uncoachable simply because he is immature and didn't go for one ball despite proving time and time again throughout his career, he isn't afraid to put his body on the line.

He had a brain fade and yet, here we are questioning who he is as a person based on some random friend of a friend's former roommate who apparently some anonymous poster knows who said so. The same poster, I might add, who gets upset when similar questions and concerns are made about Walters. Both of these threads are just simply stupid and I am going to keep sticking up for our players when they are doing a good job which Cobbo is doing and has an upside few his age show.

One of the all time great fullback's also had an issue letting the ball bounce on occasion early in his career.

just in case you're wondering who I'm talking about, i'll give you a hint. he is the current QLD State of Origin coach.

He learned from his mistakes and i'm sure Cobbo will also.
