PLAYER Selwyn Cobbo

On reflection I have been too harsh on Cobbo’s play. I still think he has a long way to go but he is doing better than I gave him credit for after watching the game again.

At the end of the day I am just still really fucking pissed off about that podcast. I know people say he is young and dumb and maybe that is the case but we have had a lot of young and dumb players come through the game and they haven’t done that before.

I just feel it is so disrespectful to the team, and the coach and the fans. I mean whether Cobbo likes Kevvie or not he is a legend of this club and I just can’t move on from how disgusting that was. I will however keep my thoughts about it to myself until I can from now on.

Alright, like B4L i re-watched the game and saw more involvement. I think he made metres from our half, but will not forgive that attempt, or lack of attempt on the catch. It was soft.

I understand you guys don't have the same information that I have about him and have to take it with a grain of salt but I was just as disappointed to hear about it too. It's completely compounded by the news that he left a losing game and talked shit about the coach, on one of those dumb podcasts that isn't needed because we have 45000 of them already. So my mind is made up until he proves me wrong. If he's not willing to put his body on the line in a game that big, I'm worried where his head is at against other teams. I hope there is a change of attitude because I want him to be great.

I’m not scapegoating him or blaming him for anything, I don’t want him in the team and to be there after what he has done he should be damn near perfect. He isn’t.

Some coaches are master motivators but weak tactically . Those kind leave the tactics to assistants .

Sounds like what Selwyn was trying to say .

Yeah the way he shirks his responsibility coming off the try line is disgraceful . ...
You `re trippin bro .
I spent a few years listening to blokes on here saying Boyd didn't put his body on the line on a few specific occasions. If only I just brought up the times he did and everyone else would have just simply been wrong.

I think he has been drilled about going over the side lines .
Got himself in a bad position too close to the ball or under the ball and mis timed his jump .

Then thought fck it I will let it bounce and it will go out .

Tesi had already smashed him into touch once already . If he caught the ball and got pushed into touch . Same result .

The difference is, Boyd had MULTIPLE times per game where he would lay down, it became so bad it was a meme. Cobbo did one horrible error where he pulled out of going for the ball. Yes otherwise he made mistakes but he never stopped trying and he kept getting belted for his troubles. In the Phins game alone, there were at least three times where because of Cobbs' effort he got back in to the field of play when he had no right to. He has also been responsible already for stopping a number of tries in all four games both at full back against Penrith and on the wing in the others.

and yet someone like Pat Carrigan......seems to live & breath KW/Broncos.

Who do we believe.....?

I'm not putting my money on Selwyn.

No he didn’t. He had like 2 times where he laid down. The others were not a lack of effort or completely giving up on the play like the falls may have looked. Right now I have Boyd at 2 and Cobbo at 1 for their career.

But that wasn’t the point of my post. Pointing out the good doesn’t negate the bad for some.

We are talking in terms of volume. You are picking the kid apart and essentially saying we should sack him because he didn't go for one ball. I am saying that I agree that wasn't great and was a negative but shouldn't negate the MANY positive times he went for it and got us out of trouble in the same game.

You are also claiming an unnamed source that says this kid is uncoachable and happy to coast along, I am looking at the evidence of how much he is doing right and the effort he is clearly putting in and thinking that's a load of rubbish. I am of the belief he is an immature kid who has made some mistakes and am willing to forgive him for that, you put your trust in whatever your source says and I am saying I don't believe what your source is saying.

Simple as that.

Well you started that whole response with a lie. I’ve never once said we should sack him. So you’re the one making shit up.

My source has told me a few things that I’m sure you’ve eaten up in the past. You’re welcome to not believe me and I’ll stop letting BHQ know these things.

You can have McHunt and Pete Bad… his source instead.

I also recently had a conversation with Dean Widders who had a lot to say about him. Different spin but confirmed the attitude issues that plague some of our indigenous players and how the club are looking after them. But I’ll keep that to myself too.

Dude if you want to throw a bit of a tantrum about it all because I (and likely others) don't believe your source and you wish to take it personally as a result, that's on you. Though just to be clear, I am not saying you are lying, I am saying I don't believe your source and honestly, time may prove your source right, it just doesn't match what I am seeing at present. It also doesn't have to be either your unnamed source or McHunt/Badel's, I just choose not to believe murky sources, this isn't new, I've gone on about unnamed sources and lack of quotes ad nauseum.

Some people like this made up / unprovable stuff, I don't and will call it out if I see it coming across as an attack on one of our players, that's all there is to it. Just like with Billy Walters, I will stand up for our players unless the evidence proves otherwise like it did with Boyd and his laying down / lack of effort. I don't like what Cobbo did on that podcast and I think he should have been dropped from first grade and be made to earn his pot back again as a result but that's my opinion and while by no means always successful, I do try to be as objective as possible.

I don't believe in starting we need to talk about 'insert player here' threads simply on the back of one mistake and then pile on with unnamed sources like McHunt does with Billy Walters and random no names on Twitter. That's all there is to it and I'll leave it there.

I'm guilty of this for Darius Boyd in our wooden spoon season, but jeez some people get set off about certain players WAAAAAAAAAAAY too fast. You'd think we're 0-4 and not 3rd favourite betting odds to win the premiership.

Yes this isn't a great surprise, we had one of the better tacticians in Seibold but he clearly had a terrible ability to resonate with the players. I say better tacticians because if anyone had watched his commentary on NRL.com, he did seem very very knowledgeable.

It's clear Kevvie is more a man manager than a tactician, he would have a fair bit of knowledge no doubt, he was one of the great halves of his time. He's only going to improve as a coach, I think he's got the part that you need to have if you want to make it as a coach, the ability to manage your men.
