Melbourne don’t change how they play, whether they cop a few early penalties or not, they know the ref won’t have the resilience to continually penalise them every set. It’s the same with the PTB, they will play it off the mark every single time knowing the worst that will happen is once in a blue moon the ref might call them to go back and play it. Every single element of their game is about pushing the rules and the game have always bent for them.

Remember that game where Melbourne actually were penalized all game and there were forty penalties or something? It makes the game unwatchable and we had another sample of it last night.

But I do want to add here - refs didn't cost us the game. We left 3-4 tries out there and let in two soft as tries.

The Storm are still a class team but surely the piggybacking ref calls for the likes of them and the Panthers is obvious to all.

You guys are the only ones who think the Broncos were rorted. Flegglers bullshit after playing the ball was clearly an infringement and that was a no try. Olam should have been awarded a try for Walsh's clear shoulder charge. The sin bin is the only thing that went the wrong way IMO. Otherwise you guys were reffed to stay in that game. The scoreline flatters the Broncos. You should be concerned about that messaging from Kevvie. These young guns will drop their heads now they think the NRL is after them.
The pass to Olam was forward. Shouldn't have got that far in the first place.

Flegler was responding to having his head shoved down. Because the Storm player initiated it, it was fair game.

I'll be honest. There was a little trolling in my post. I cam here to see what you guys thought of the game, because I genuinely think the game was a bludger, some poor calls went both ways. But then I saw I was called out in another thread without even saying anything...AGAIN. So I thought **** it.

Anyway, this is the start of your toughest part of the draw. This period will be a true test.

They'll bring up the stupid block Walters did and forget about everything else that happened. The "We score all our points when Paix is on the field" club has been quiet recently
I thought Billy did his job pretty well for the most part to be honest. Kev should’ve brought Paix on around the 60-65 minute mark to chase points but leaving it until the last 10 was too little too late.

Not Billy’s fault though. Kev just flew too close to the sun with that tactic

I saw Billy throw a 15 metre pass straight off the ground to a players chest last night just randomly. Didn’t know he had it in him.

I don’t think the plan was to give Paix that few minutes. I just think Kevvie tried to do something different when we had players sin binned. Hopefully he learns from it.

I agree with you, Olam should have had a try, and Reece def shoulder charged him.

It was poor reffing across the board, just the Broncos copped the brunt of it.

Now that i am of sound mind and not being driven mad by emotional rage at what i witnessed last night, i can honestly say the tipping point for me was two things.

1 - The Carrigan hip drop. I flipped my shit at that call and turned the TV off and went to bed.
I hate hate hate what the NRL is doing to our game, and its stupid shit like these hip drop penalties that are a big part of it.

2 - This one bothered me the most, and that was when Hughes shouldered Flegler in the back like the weak gutted dog that he is, and got nothing for it. Zilch, Zero, Nothing.

I fucking hate the Storm, and i hate every one of their players and think that Bellamy and the tactics they have introduced to the game over the past decade have been more damaging to the sport than any other factor.

Followed closely by Vlandys.

Three things I think were re-affirmed to me last night:
1. Walsh is the superstar we've needed - Yes he screwed up a few times but he just keeps on coming both sides of the ball. He is by no means the finished product either, it is frightening how good he is likely to become
2. Mam is the closest thing we are going to see to JT - I've been saying this for some time but there is just so much of JT in him it is ridiculous, he just never gives up on a play either side of the ball and it isn't just that try saver he pulled off, it is every time. He is just always there and his relationship with Walsh is special, you can see they are just absolute best of friends and both of them are ridiculously competitive - they will drive the standards of our club for the next 10-15 years
3. Walters is the coach to take us forward - Look, his bench use last night was questionable, I'll admit that but he was handed a knuckle sandwich but that idiot with the whistle. He also knows that it wasn't just the ref that cost us and you can see in all the player interviews, they are buying into his philosophy - he has the team on board and he has taken us from the ashes to a team that will be a contender for some time if we can keep the core together. He has definitely earned his extension.

dont encourage any of the piss stains who turn up here to gloat after we lose, just ignore them
We’ve to hear from a dumb Souffs fan. FFS, tfw Fatrell guy manhandles everyone who tackles him. He manhandled Harry Grant in Magic Round & Fatrell should’ve been sent off & banned atleast couple of games if we were to go by this saint’s preaching.
Tell that 🐰 to fook off & never to come here again. Salty fools.

Not to mention a far more dangerous spear tackle by Smith that could have been horrid is 'only' a penalty.
It didn't have the potential to hurt... their ankles

With the Reece Walsh shoulder charge, I thought the bunker may have cleared it because his right arm does make a wrapping motion. For all intents and purposes it was a shoulder charge, but the definition has become so blurred and I think Reece did a decent job of disguising it. In light of the charge it was clearly fortunate and Melbourne could have been up 12-0.

I didn't mind the referee's decision to just let things go with that whole Grant-Flegler-Hughes situation. It looked like Grant started it but then Flegler escalated it by 'striking' and Hughes came from a distance to escalate things further. Looking back, maybe the game wouldn't have been as grubby later on, but I think the call suited Brisbane as it would have been a Storm penalty for Flegler striking at an opponent.

That left edge is a huge issue for the Broncos defensively. The way the Storm picked Brisbane apart for that opening try was embarrassing. Why was Billy defending alongside Ezra? How did he end up out of position and why was Capewell so slow to recognise the gap?

Again, considering the circumstances, I'll take 24-16. Worst case scenario, it could have easily been 48-4 considering Melbourne butchered four tries and I believe that Herbie Farnworth try came off the back of Olam's being denied.

Olam got a shoulder charge on Walsh just before Coates ran down the field at the end of the game, only it was a proper shoulder charge and not just turning your back into an attacker.

Flegler should have had every right to lash out the way he did. Grant got him in a choke hold around the neck, for attempting a tackle. Then Highes came in with a swinging arm to the ribs. At the very least Hughes should have gone.

Warbrick got away with lifting knees into the defender numerous times and not a single word has been said about it.

The Paix try, people are claiming Flegler started it but why was their player not penalized for pushing his head down whilst trying to play the ball? Their ruck interference last night was shit.

When Carrigan played the ball off the mark with a player on him, he was sent back to the spot. But when Melbourne did it they got a penalty or could just play the ball wherever they wanted.

Numerous times the Storms defensive line moved forward before the ball had cleared the ruck. Especially on the refs blindside. What are the touchies doing these days?

Flegler blocked a defender on the last once, the Storm did it numerous times. We just didn't fall over.

The pass before the Reece Walsh "shoulder charge" was massively forward.

Don't get me started on both of our sin-bins. Neither warranted a penalty, let alone being a player down.

The phantom 6 agains were ridiculous. Not only was the ref calling them offside and allowing them to make tackles, we got penalized because the ref said "stay out of it" and our player stayed out of it.

The reffing might have been poor both ways, but we copped far worse calls than they did. The game was a joke and the dork with the whistle was on one hell of a power trip last night.

I'd have to look at the Olam shoulder charge again but on first view despite going in initially it does appear that one of his arms attempts to wrap.

Flegler should, but in the modern game that's considered striking and he should have been in the bin along with Hughes with Melbourne getting the penalty. The referee deciding that Melbourne didn't deserve the penalty therefore letting the situation go was the right call.

The Olam is a clearer shoulder charge than the Walsh one. His shoulder is cocked and he is making no attempt to wrap, plus this is Olam's MO. If Walsh got charged (and I am not saying he shouldn't), Olam should have too.

its not the first time that ref in particular has been trash dont really think he is up to fg standard tbh

He is awful, every single game is ruined that he controls and every single one, he takes a dislike to one team and then pummels them. That isn't to say the other team isn't still affected.

But I do think in last night's case, the bunker is just as much to blame and it generally is.

oh the bunker by all rights should not get shit wrong they have the luxury of 4k replays and shit we dont see but here we are week after week even the touch judges wtf they do these days? i cant remember the last time the ref got tipped off on something by the touch judge
