Reynolds still has next year in his contract, if you genuinely think it would be better to put Madden there next year, you need to be in a facility.

Also Staggs will be in the side no matter what and he has been pretty good this year as well.

Is Mariner over-hyped? I haven't seen him do anything special in an NRL game, commentators keep talking about his speed but I just don't see anything standing out. Even with Dennis Kemp and Chris Walker at a young age you could easily see their speed was elite.

The thing I like about this most is there was no mention of him coming up for resigning and therefore we never had half a dozen or so clubs vying for his signature and willing to throw funny money at him.

Such a breath of fresh air to have no pre-signing anxiety headlines.

All we need now is big bopper Payno to pledge his allegiance to this almighty club.

No.

He's developing really well, just needs to fill out a bit more which will come with age and preseasons.

He is very fast in a straight line. He's Rugby League fast too. Doesn't lose much speed at all when he steps, changes direction etc and has great balance.

Walsh is Rugby League fast if you want an example.

He'll light it up next year.

Bennett went hard for him last year and tried to get him to break his contract

I mean he has already scored some pretty impressive tries, racked up metres and defended really well all out of position on wing, what hasn't been impressive?

Considering locky888 is comparing Mariner to Dennis Kemp, I'm not convinced we are talking aout the same Mariner 😂

Kemp was exclusively a Winger though, with his very limited League background he was only suitable for one position and through sheer Talent was able to get himself into first grade, he was very much an Athlete though and that's what got him through the door.

Mariner is a centre who has yet to play centre this year, while outside backs are mostly interchangable as long as they don't have an unusual body for their preffered position, that should be noted.

The last game had my eyes opened a bit, he took on a tonne of a work, while I think he is too small at current and needs to put on more weight, his work rate is something you usually don't see from players at the stage of his career.

I think he's very overhyped by people on here, but a lot of young players are. Tesi Niu was a gun apparently. There is always this push to just play any young players with a bit of potential before they are ready and not many handle it.

He's got massive potential though, but we dont need to throw him into the backline next year just because we are losing Farnworth. Staggs, Oates, Arthars and Cobbo should be out first choice centers and wingers.

I don’t think he’s really overhyped outside of BHQ and even here he is fairly moderately hyped. He looks like a good prospect and I’m glad we extended him. There is definitely a reasonable argument that Arthars should get first crack at centre due to age and experience but I also think we are in a totally different universe when it comes to blooding youth as we were 3 years ago. I also think although careers are lasting longer, NRL is an increasingly young man’s sport. Teams like panthers are packed with young players, origin is full of guys under 25. I think the 6 again era favours youth more than previous years when discipline and grind won games.

Penrith just didnt blood all those players though at 19 or 20. They were allowed to develop in a good system and allowed to grow into what they are now. You dont get many sides like Penrith and tbf they have a fair amount of experienced players combined with their younger guys.
