POST GAME 2023 NRL Grand Final - Penrith vs Brisbane

Yeah right I wasn’t sure, I just remember he fucked it one time doing that

My memory thinks it was in an origin but can’t be 100%
Milford suffered a head knock in his Origin debut and didn't complete the game. The South Sydney game took place not long after so the two memories may have conflated.

I did some digging and all I found was an injury at training in the build up to that Bulldogs home game in 2016. The game where Kasiano kicked Parker in the head.

It will be the year of the Willison in 2024.....

Was going to say exactly this. He's probably 3 years behind Flegler but I think he can do a decent enough job for 15-20 minutes game next year. The gap in minutes to be filled by Hetherington going to 13 (and Carrigan going to prop).

Had to turn 360 off when buzz was saying we made a mistake buying Reyno from Souths…..and that we shouldn’t extend him for another year because of the last 20 minutes last night.

Yeah he made a couple of bad decisions. But he took us from the gutter to 20 minutes from beating the greatest team of the modern era. I think we’re sweet with our purchase of one Adam Reynolds thanks Buzz.

I can't remember a shoulder injury in 2016. I remember his form just started to dip on the eve of the representative season. Brisbane lost a heart-breaker to the Cowboys and then suffered a shock upset at home against the Tigers. It was in this game the Broncos really needed their halves to step up, but Milford was exposed as a one trick pony.

Milford was great running that second man shape, but without the usual contingent giving him good ball, he was virtually invisible.

Then Milford just lost that half a pace of speed that made him so threatening. He still had some skillful moments, but he just never took the initiative or took the smart options.
I thought he had back to back preseasons lost to off season surgery... I know for sure that he needed shoulder surgery at the end of 2017, but thought he needed it in 2016 or 2018 as well.

Just seemed like every off season Milf wasn't able to complete it due to surgery... and I felt that could've really hampered his development, because he moved around positions after coming into grade, but never really got an off season to fully work on it.

I thought him missing out on origin selection in 2016 led to him playing poorly for a period and falling away that year... but leading up to that point he was looking like Dally M material.

Ok that was an intense 24 hours, but the pain is subsiding a bit. For what it's worth, I thought we were the better team for 60 mins. We mostly absorbed their pressure in the first half, despite our errors. They were lucky to be leading, and you can you can see why they are the best in the comp. So good at building and maintaining pressure.
When we came out in the 2nd half and scored 3, it seemed like we were going to do what we had done all year and run away with it. I think that's what the team thought too and got complacent. Penrith gf experience came to the fore and a master-class by cleary steared them home. Luai going off was the worst thing to happen to us. They looked really lost in attack most of the time with him.
We will grow from this.
Last couple if things, it's great to see some positivity coming back on here after that devastation, we'll bounce back guys, we are a great club and we'll be banging on the door next year.
And lastly, couple of screen shots me and a broncos fan work mate and I had right when it counted. I think it captures the dreaded.moment well, lol.

Ps we haven't spoken a word since, haha

I had to fly home today to get to work (should’ve called in sick) but I went and felt like I had an empty soul. 😂 😭 People were asking how the game was, I just told them please don’t talk to me today lol..
+1

Flew home and at work still

This feels like a relationship breakup. I’m still shattered and going through the classic stages of grief. Man this sucks….

I’m still firmly in stage one, as far as it was a normal weekend and nothing of note happened

We got back to the Hotel in Sydney CBD last night and were far too heartbroken to sleep so checked out and drove home to Canberra. Needed to get the F**K out of Sydney

Exactly how I feel. Have struggled to eat at times and the atmosphere of the world just feels different. Couldn't even muster the courage to go to the gym. Chest hurts. Can't escape it.

Let's have a BHQ pact to all get into our routine (whatever it is that usually makes us feel good) tomorrow and report back with how we're going.

as bad as losing a GF feels imo it doesnt feel as bad as collecting our first wooden spoon or the whole pies era, club is so much better placed now than it has been for the longest time.

Great idea.
I jumped totally out of my routine. Rest of the family was camping last night and I only came up today / tonight. It's been great to just stare at a fire and decompress.

Every week they seem to change their opinion on our purchase of Reynolds from Souths.

Hmmm ... since gaining Reynolds we have gone from cellar dwellers to losing a GF by 2 points against the most dominant team in modern day history (while only having 44% possession, mind you)

Since losing Reynolds, Souths have going from losing a GF by 2 points ... to missing the 8 completely, in the worst capitulation in NRL history

We win

Strong disagree. If pessimism helps you then go for it do what you need but this side coped with the clubs first ever wooden spoon, narrowly losing to the best team in the modern era isn’t gonna hurt them, in fact it will spur them on.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I know people hate the word choke, but we did choke and teams that lose a GF in such a way have very very rarely made it back the following year. Players have spoken about what it's like losing in such a way and that scarring sticks with them into the next year.

We'll see if Kevvie and the rest of the coaching staff can get their minds on the job and focused for another push.

Ironically though, if we don’t win the spoon we probably aren’t in the GF this year. We were happy to be mediocre for well on a decade just making the 8 and not seriously challenging for a title.

Penrith's scars from 2020 should have been rough too. They were on a 17 game winning streak and had basically been faultless before that first half abomination in the GF.

I'd bring in the best sports psychologists in the country though. Sure DD and co are thinking about that.
