Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

That wasn't his point at all, he just said that the Broncos can't claim long service when he's been there four years- same as Fogarty has been at Raiders and the Raiders aren't going to get any help to keep Fogarty.

He was right, the Broncos can't cry poor- the first thing they will say is why did you sign Hunt?
Where did I mention he didn't say what you just rattled off?

He did say he was already on unders, and did say the NRL should refuse a downgrade.

Big difference between 900k at a good club and turning down 1.2 million at a rubbish club and signing for 250k.

isn't there?

Sure if either of those points were actually completely true.

1. The Bulldogs played finals last year and are currently run away leaders - if that is a rubbish club, well alrighty then
2. 900k (or less) for ONE year compared to 1.2 million over 3 years - so actually effectively turning down about a 800k-a million guaranteed dollars

So where was the outrage for this? Oh that's right, they aren't the Broncos and the club owner plays a large part in bankrolling the NRL through ads and betting revenue.

Don't you just love it when the Broncos are a threat to win the competition. All this shit starts coming out to try and unsettle the club and players.
It's so predictable, let's all sit back and enjoy the entertainment. Nrl 360 are truly a bunch of halfwits , led by Gordie ofof course. 🤣

So apart from a journo brain fart where did this figure of 250k even come from.. they haven't even started negotiating yet have they?? I did see Lockyer all loose lipped about can't afford him but I don't think he ever made up a number for journos to latch on.

It's just the usual story. Journo makes up an outrageous number, then proceeds to get outraged by it. Other journalists then report on the original made up number as fact, cue further outrage.

Speaking of a lack of outrage, don't recall any at all after this was published.

Can't claim it's only because of the long term player allowance when it says right there, "or another club".

DCE, current QLD captain, no issues with 400k on cap "or even less", Reynolds however, you've got Crawley, CONEHEAD, Hooper all claiming his value is growing.

For once it would just be nice for something, anything NRL-related to be consistent and/or professional at something other than consistently being inconsistent and unprofessional.

FYI a Badel article basically saying that Reynolds is on about $550k this year, but still may not need to take a pay cut. effectively because we have 13 players off contract at season's end ... now remember we're already losing Smoothy, so his money plus the reported 250k free that we had for next year, may even be enough to get a deal over the line.

p.s. Reynolds is about to play his 296th NRL match ... that's a shitload of footy for a guy who is supposed to be held together with masking tape because he is so injury prone, lol.

anyone some quotes from the article:

Madge said:

“I would love to see ‘Reyno’ go on,” Maguire said.

“I don’t see any reason why he can’t keep going on next season and I’m confident we will find a way to keep him.

“Everyone has salary-cap challenges but we have to be diligent to look at the space we’re in (with their roster).

“I get that finances play a part but it’s also what the team means and what we achieve together.

“That’s the job of everyone here, to build the environment and Reyno is a huge part of that.

“Culture is a big part of every NRL club and Reyno is a crucial part of this organisation.”

“It blows me away how tough Reyno is,” Maguire said.

“He prepares well and puts a lot of time into his game.

“He has done that ever since I have known him going back to 2012 when he made his debut at Souths.

“It’s the reason why he has had longevity in his game.

“I’ve had a long relationship with Reyno and it’s been really enjoyable to come back and coach him. It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve had him as an 18-year-old in those early days at Souths and now is 34 and one of the senior guys at the Broncos.

“Reyno is very durable. I have no concerns about his body holding up (next season).

“He is playing good footy and he has a real smile on his face. It’s nice to see. There have been some tough times for Reyno and times when he’s had some challenges, but he’s able to play some good footy at the moment off the back of his teammates working hard for him.

“Reyno has so much time these days and he sees the game so well.”

Reyno's Manager, Steve Gillis said

“Reyno has indicated that his preference is to play on,” Gillis said.

“The Broncos have been great to him, so I will talk to them in the next two or three weeks about the next step.

“I have no doubt Reyno can go on next year if that’s what he wants.

“At the moment, we haven’t spoken money or had conversations with the Broncos.

“I don’t know what their salary cap position is until I sit down with the Broncos.

“There’s no alarm bells ringing about the deal having to be done now, we’ll get to it sooner rather than later.”

CONEHEAD is desperate for the Broncos to fail, isn’t he?
Whichever hole of his he fancies, I curse the moron to get ****ed by a psycho monster gay or an angry bison.

It’s a pity that the likes of this asshole & Parker wore Bronx jersey.

That article is just speculation and the same as what they are writing now about Reynolds- and DCE didn't accept it, so it is irrelevant anyway.

You do know that the Broncos currently have Hunt and Reynolds on half of what they should be?

There is no hard luck story here, the Broncos have done very well out of those two contracts being approved.

If the focus/conversation has to be somewhere, shouldn't it be on the Broncos assuming Reynolds was going to be done at the end of 25? Or in hindsight not getting Hunt or a 7 still not being ready?

Those are better questions then hoping the NRL approve a small contract- which they will the bigger stumbling block will be Reynolds.

We know it has to be less; his current deal has come down every year to get us to this point.

Also know it has to come down again. So sure, insert any smaller number you want but 250-350 or 400 is certainly not what a 300 game NRL half still playing great football is worth or should be on- that's the point.

His "worth" to Brisbane is over a million dollars really.

If the club realistically thought Reynolds was playing on there's no way we would've signed Hunt IMO.

2 years with Hunt at #9 would seriously risk squeezing Mozer out.
Would he wait until 2027 to be guaranteed a spot in the first grade?

No chance in hell

I really hope Coby Black steps up to become the player we need him to be, or we are in serious trouble come 2027.

If we were to sniff around other clubs juniors for a change, potential opportunities I can think of are:

Cowboys
They will need to eventually fit the likes of Duffy, Chester and Purdue into their spine. Can they fit them all? Probably, but snagging one would be worthwhile.

Roosters
They have two young halves coming through in Toby Rodwell and Jake Elliott. What do they then do with Hugo Savala, Sandon Smith or Sam Walker? I am a massive fan of Walker and would love to see him return home someday, same with David Fifita.

Penrith
I think Jett Cleary returning to Penrith to play with his brother is inevitable. If this occurs, Zach Lamont may then want to come back to QLD if there is no pathway for him at Panthers.

Walker will never be big enough for the NRL. Turnstile in defense, and a poor long kicking game. A good long kicking game is so key to a marquee 7.

He's got some zip and a nice short kicking game, but people will eventually see that he's depth at best.

If Cleary was any good he would already be in first grade and the panthers wouldn't have let him go.

Exactly. With the game being so focussed on field position, a big boot is really important. It is no coincidence that the cowboys have been so much better with clifford in the squad, or why the broncos struggle without reynolds.
