Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Papa would be amazing, but maybe overkill given our big money middles and Willison. Kerr on a cheaper deal might be better. Hopefully we can still get Madden to leave after this season but it might be hard given he's out injured long term. The squad balance could potentially look so much better next season if he, Smoothy and Paix all out. Probably 0% chance of Josh Rogers getting picked up elsewhere early, will never understand that signing.

We could potentially buy out
Rogers I suppose but what would be the point? If we can keep Kobe plus Jensen, sign Kerr and maybe extend Talty who seems at least a really good bloke, that might be enough in the way of middles.

Take this with a grain of salt but rumours spread fairly quickly in TVL, and I was tipped off by a Cows supporting friend. This chap had the word that Mahoney was off to the Cows yesterday before it was confirmed today:

Would love to get Jhiba and makes complete sense with Shiba having so much success here.

Who's Campbell though? Is that the recruiter that we picked up?

Makes a lot of sense with Gem here and the success he's had.
Ballin coached him in 19s origin and Dane Campbell would have a connection with him.

Jamal could be a good fit for that 17 jersey.

Shameful to admit, but for months I've been reading about this 'Jibasaki' player you guys keep mentioning and I legitimately thought it was a player with the surname Jibasaki and thought it was a funny coincidence that it rhymed with Shibasaki.

I feel pretty stupid right now. Piakura levels of empty-headedness.

Yeah that’s me, sorry. Terrible surname based on laziness on my part.

He was with the broncos on scholarships, etc. but he's from Townsville, so decided to join cows to stay close to home... which is understandable.

He's been identified as a serious talent coming through the grades where I think he played across prop and second row, but appears to be dropping down the pecking order at cows.

Also noteworthy that cows have a plethora of forwards that have been up there or still coming through, so his pathway up there is pretty congested.

Off the top of my head I can think of the following guys that have been at the cows whilst he's been up there Nanai, Luki, Luciano, Lemuelu, Finefuaki, Neame (if we're going into props as well)... and even this year it seems like he's dropped behind Bateman, O'Donnell and now Lahrs.

If Scanlon is not across his situation then I'd have questions given we have no depth at second row and a guy who was in our junior development program (probably one that Scanlon was overseeing before he moved up under Ikin) appears to be blocked from first grade at the only club that is within proximity of his family.

We've got his brother on the books, and likely to extend him for a few years, and probably some guys he was around during his junior development. So it won't be a foreign environment to come into.

Even the other clubs in SEQ are pretty well sorted for edges... phins have Lemuelu, Finefuaki, Keeley, Gilbert, etc. and titans have Fermor, Fifita, Haas, and probably other guys coming through, but have spent a ton on their forward pack already.

It's really a no brainer that broncos appear to be the best location for him at this point.

Cows could retain him, but he appears to be dropping down the depth chart up there, so him extending is likely going to be on a modest contract and Todd is potentially not seeing him in the future plans so he's just sitting there as depth and delaying his own development.

At the broncos he's probably an automatic selection for that 17 jersey... without having our full squad in front of me I'd say he's above a lot of the other depth forwards we have and a good chance of passing Gos if he nails his preseason.

Awesome rundown - thank you.

We got Jensen from the Cows when he was basically totally unwanted and he has turned out to be a really valuable piece of our team. They seem enamoured with deeply flawed forwards like Nanai and Hess and signed Tamaulolo to a decade-long deal so I have zero confidence in their ability to judge forward talent.

If he can rejoin his brother and find some form he could be a steal, especially if he plays on the edge.

Fingers crossed.

...it's a good thing you're pretty mate.

I would like Jensen sorted soon. He is nothing flash, but is that reliable mature head that you need in a young forward pack, especially when carrigan and hass are away on origin duty.
100% want us to keep jensen. Won't break the bank and is very reliable / solid. I'd be looking to move on Baker, Jayden Hunt, Jack Gos, Paix, Hetherington and even Riki before moving on Jensen.

We definitely need to add another true front rower to our depth, especially with Marty gone and Baker likely also out the door. Can't afford to lose Jensen and Kerr would be a good option for sure and could fill the 17 spot well. A bench of Walters/Mozer, Willison, Kerr & Te Kura would be very good. I also think we need another second rower. Riki has been pretty disappointing, although he had his best game on the weekend so maybe he has turned a corner.
