All things bulldogs on YouTube popped up on my YouTube recommendations for some reason (probably due to the replays I've watched of the game highlights! Haha). What a laugh that was. Hats off for their passion but one bloke went on what felt like a 2 hour rant (about 10 mins maybe) about Galvin's mental health and the media...... all the while not realising the irony of what they did to ezra mam haha... I seriously think they might implode. What should be worrying for the dogs fans is the lack of acknowledgement of ANY issues by their team judging by the comments from the legends around the club (eg Graham, mason). If the club is ANYTHING Like that they are on their way to a shock.
The problem with Galvin is NOT Galvin. It's HOW he was brought in. Mahoney and sexton dragged that team out of the absolute doldrums all the while going on and on and on about hard work and tea work and effort, and winning because of that. Then, they bring in an unproven 19 year old half who has never played a finals game and tell him he doesn't need to earn it, he's in, the guys who got us here are out. It's not a playstation game, it will be in the back of every players mind "hey, I thought this club rewarded hard work and effort, why am I putting in here?"....
I think a big issue the dogs have with Galvin is they have seemingly handed him the keys to the whole thing.
Every time he comes on the field he's in the halves and someone from the spine is moved.
This is creating issues, because Galvin doesn't play like the dogs have been playing... when he was at tigers he was like a spoilt child with a new play thing... just running around and wanting the ball on every tackle.
He'd throw a million different looks at the defence, but there wasn't a whole lot of structure or thought behind what he was doing.
The dogs don't play a normal cookie cutter style with block plays on block plays... they want to play like Panthers lite... they turn players under, the lock does a lot of ball playing and they want to get into a grind to eventually out fatigue the opposition.
When they do decide to attack they send it left and Burton and Kikau are the ones used to create something.
Galvin has been playing very sideways and against us was taking any good ball and just throwing shots that the rest of the team aren't set up to do or used to doing i.e. playing down short sides, etc.
I think if they were going to introduce him into the team, then he should've been used as a ball playing middle off the bench... except the issue is that the ball playing middle in the dogs system is super important... so much so that Ciraldo would prefer to move his halves around instead of the lock.
Hayward and Mann have been excellent at lock for them this year, and there is no way that Galvin can play like them, because he's not a halfback... he's a big bodied running 6.
They're lucky that the rest of the comp is pretty shithouse outside of about 5 teams... but their last 5 games are wahs, rorters, storm, panthers and sharks.
If they don't get their shit together they could drop out of the 4 with that run home.
