THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

Love kevy but madge gets a pass mark for this year. Hes been alot luckier with injuries than 2024 Kev.

We have improved for this year but still far from how 2023 form under Kev. Id say our finish this year is more due to our luck with injuries throughout the year rather than anything that madge has done to improve us.
A lot luckier with injury? Surely that’s a typo

Big improvement from finishing 13th to wrapping up a finals spot with 2 weeks and to go and a top 4 chance. No real changes to Kevvie's squad either, hopefully he can start to fix the roster imbalance for next year. On injuries, the Titans put 82 points on us across 2 games last year, Walsh, Mam, Haas and Carrigan played both games and Reynolds one of them.

I think defence is still a major issue.

We're getting dominated in the wrestle (attack and defence).

I'm hoping that we hunt down a defensive assistant that is up with the times and is starting to put together a track record of improving the defence they've been working with.

That's either a head hunting job from somewhere else or potentially checking if there is a gun defensive coach in Qcup.

It looks like Devils are the best defensive team at about 18 pts per game... you'd want that down to 16pt per game, but it would be more about if the style of that defence is transferable to NRL.

Rohan Smith is back coaching them after his stint in England... if he's a reason for improved defence then it might be a consideration.

I dont think our current affiliates have been all that great in defence looking at the stats... Bears highest on the ladder, but conceding about 21pt per game.

Stats arent everything, but might tell a story

How many games have our first choice spine (9. Hunt, 7. Arey, 6. Mam, 1. Walsh) played together this year, four to five? If we had better luck with injuries/ suspensions I think we’d be comfortably in the top 2.

Madge has done an incredible job with the outs we’ve had and the lack of talent in some positions. People talk about Shiba and Karapani, but he’s made Gosi and JHunt look like decent first graders.

I think that slump was more to do with not having Walsh.

This year with Walsh we've won 11/16 games (69%), scoring 11pts per game more and conceding 6pts per game less (17 pt difference per game with Reece)... without Reece we won 2/6. That win percentage would have us with 15 wins for the year and sitting in 3rd.

Since he joined in 2023 we've got a win percentage of 65% with him and 43% without him.

He is by far our most influential player, but it could also show that we had absolutely no back up at fullback if Reece was ever unavailable... and with Cobbo leaving I don't think we have anyone that even plays fullback contracted for next year, except for Reece.

I think Anderson has played some fullback, so at the moment he's probably our backup.

The coaching absolutely needs to find capable back up at fullback, because we can't just be cannon fodder when one player isn't available... and we also can't expect Reece to be available for 24 games a year + finals.
We also lost our backup FB to an ACL in the preseason. We've been pretty cursed with outs this year, just never really had a stable 17.

How ****ing high are you?

Have had a much better year with injuries this year. And last year we had Josh Rogers playing halfback when reyno missed 15 games. No ben hunt to fall back on.

We couldn't event field an extended bench during origin. Also had long term injuries to our best players, reyno, Walsh haas.

2025s been pretty good really

Context matters too. You can't just look at the raw numbers. Was it as bad as last year? probably not. But to say this year was good injury wise is absolutely asinine. Of course we're fortunate we have Hunt this year.

Never said we have had a good year with injuries, just "more luck" and "better". Never said it was good.

Glad you agree with me, this year was not as bad as last year injury wise.

Well i guess you got me there but ultimately I've changed your tune from asking what im smoking to largely agreeing that Last year was worse injury wise than this year.

Currently 11th on the injury ladder
Last year we were 3rd! Thats a fair difference. Particularly when in 2024 we had our best players out for the longest period. Walsh, reyno and haas all played less than 15 games. This year those three will likely be up over 20.

Every game thread for most of the game everyone is complaining about how shit we look.

We look terrible for 75% of the game then we pull it together or the other team shits the bed…

To say he’s done an incredible job is ****ing hyperbolic to the maximum

We're still carrying a lot defensive fragility. I just don't have the confidence in our defense or ability to wrestle back momentum.

But what I'm loving seeing is our come back mentality, this hasnt been around for a long time. It's the seed for something greater.
