9-8 Broncos but once again, so many are a coin toss.

Picked as i anticipated.
Paix will tackle his arse off, smoothy will give carrigan a spell.
Mam and hunt as per the pf.
Lets ****ing gooooo

So Talty becomes the 18th and that means Arthars drops out. So crazy how within a season it’s someone else’s time to shine and it’s not yours anymore. That’s footy for ya.

Karapani was saying today in the where were you for 2023 Grand Final conversation- he said eating everything and anything on my couch waiting to hear if I can have a development deal with the Broncos.

I feel so much more confident against the storm in the gf than I did last week against penref. Riff’s performance against the dogs (a side who were one pass off beating the storm in wk1 btw) was probably the most dominant this season. As a team riff are also just so much better across the park than the storm, just their outside backs alone shit all over the storm’s.

The only way we lose this is if we don’t turn up on the day or cop a ref job (unlikely given Atkins was mortally afraid of calling anything last week), and with Madge in charge I can’t see that happening.

The last thing our emotional team needs is 2 extra days to sit around and think about it.

We’ve been battle hardened by 3 monster games in a row, we had a break last week. A shorter turn around means everyday you will be too busy to play the GF over in your head too much. Patty will have had 3 weeks off, Reyno, Mam, X are all back from a break. Payne is Payne. We will be fresh enough

I think 7 days suits us just fine

Way too much has been made of the two days, Storm watched the final at Harry's house on Sunday. It's not like they've hatched some secret plan in that time.

The thing I have noticed this week so far is less distractions. 2023 family and training were a circus people's families wanted 30 tickets and were putting pressure on the guys the boys got sucked into organising flights for family. This year the boys seem much more football focused. They've learned you can't look after everyone all week and then win on Sunday.

Time for Uncle Steve to be a big boy and book his own flights. (I am making that name up, so if a player has an Uncle Steve I am not in any way blaming him.)

I think having Mam on the bench and Paix is more so that Ben Hunt can play 80 and not have to play that 80 defending at 9. Smoothy will come on in the middle as a forward which he has done well at recently.

On face value I would agree with you...although 11 minutes of game time isn't really valuable use of a middle forward.
Would rather Smoothy for 11 minutes (if that is all he gets) for the sole reason of versatility cover.

It's clear Payne and Patty will be getting 140+ minutes combined.
Wouldnt consider 11 minutes the norm he has averaged 25 min a game including that 11 min

I get it, there's only 240 minutes to share amongst prop/lock. Jensen (40min), Haas (65min), Carrigan (70min) and Willison (40min) would leave only ~25min for Hetherington as is.

Just hope Madge actually rotates Haas and Carrigan out and not have them play full halves together
I actually think the opposite. I think they should and could both play 80 mins. Carrigan hasn't played for 3 weeks and haas looks deadset obsessed with winning a premiership. They are both footy-smart enough to pace themselves for however long they need then absolutely unleash at the end. Smoothy in the 17 means if we get an injury in 6, 7 or 9 no one has to play any longer than they needed to anyway (eg paic 80 mins at hooker) and it makes us stronger defensively...

As great as he has been taltys minutes have been decreasing and I think it is a "hey, smoothy, you earned this in preseason and the years of service to the broncos and playing a role this year you didn't expect or want without whinging".

Talty is obviously popular in the team and earned his shot, but im guessing the guys would be far more attached to the thought of smoothy in the trenches with them after the 3 years service than a guy who has just got there (not taltys fault, just saying)

Isn’t Smoothy an ex Storm player too? I bet he will be itching to get a premiership over the club that let him go

Yep in 2021 for the Storm, He played for Penrith too in the Nines in 00 so maybe the secret sauce is former teams.

Gotta be careful of those intercepts. I think the good teams are starting to read our plays a bit. Those short kicks to a runner, or a dummy and run might work well though (especially if they rush up).
Coates and Warbrick both look for intercepts on the sweeping plays and cutouts to the winger.

The real target is against their centres... avoid the cut out balls and hit Staggs and Shiba on short balls.

Also line up Piaks on Hughes... and as I said for the sharks game look to double up the runners on Eli Katoa so he can't cheat on Piaks hitting that inside shoulder.

We don't have a Talakai and whilst Haas is the obvious target he doesn't necessarily line himself up to be running a line, as he seems to like getting it a bit earlier and using footwork.

The blueprint was the shape we were running vs the dogs in rd 18... I believe that had Ezra, Piaks and Willison... so the same left edge as what we should have for the GF

Yea Willison and Piakura run some awesome lines (fast and hard too). I can see us using them to score some points against Melbourne.

Deep backlines keep the defence nervous about running up too quickly and being stuck in no-man's land.
