CRICKET Queensland Bulls 25/26

I don't think it's all doom and gloom tbh. Renshaw, Weatherald, and Labs are all in great form, Green was fantastic last test series we played, Smith is Smith, Webster has been good with bat and ball. Head and Khawaja are the test regulars who are probably the most troublesome rn: both are in patchy form, but obviously have runs on the board at test level.

Our tail without Cummo is horrific, however.

Marnus has got a real proactive approach to his batting back and fluency. If you split screen him batting yesterday and batting in 2020 they would be close together in vision.

Excellent batting from Hearne. Quite a similar trajectory to a McSweeney in a way. Decent talent with a couple goes at Shield level with a different state, make a move to another state for an opportunity and absolutely load up on club and 2nd XI runs which is now translating to Shield. He looked very strong back end of last year and in one dayers of late as well. Strengthens our batting massively.

As promising as Weibgen is it wasn’t even a question in my books who got a spot in the side today between those 2.

Neser between bat and pad Sangha on 55 gone.

Beautiful

Obviously there is an ashes thread but makes not enough cricket convo to split it so far. But I’m keen to see what people’s opinions are on the top 6 and I guess bowling if anyone has a left fielder.

1. Khawaja
2. Weatherald
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith (C)
5. Green
6. Head
7. Carey
8. Starc
9. Lyon
10. Boland
11. Hazlewood

12. Webster
13. O’Neill
14. Inglis
15. Murphy

** Cummins (added when fit)

Labuschagne isn’t an opener. None of this fart around fake opener bullshit is working so pick an opener. It’s between Weatherald, Konstas and Renshaw.

Renshaw has been ****ed over by the one day call up unless he can manufacture some handy runs there.

Konstas just hasn’t put together the consistency at any level yet to be selected still looks promising but for every steps forward there’s more backwards at the minute which is to be expected (give it another year).

Weatherald is 30 has a good temperament to his batting, 906 @ 50.33 (3 100’s - 3 50’s) last year in shield and 236 @ 59 with 3 50’s from 4 innings to start the year off (94 high score). Has always been one to pull out an exceptional innings in whatever format every so often earlier in his career but he moved to Tasmania and has been batting unreal since. I think despite the debut is our best opener. You don’t fluke 900 runs and he is backing it up this year demonstrating it was no fluke.

I dont mind picking an older guy when it comes to a batter in the Aus side.

I always remember that Huss debuted at 30 and he's now a legend of the game.

Unless the guy is an absolute gun in his early 20's then it's probably not worth exposing him to internationals, because if they get exposed then it can set them way back in their career.

If you're 30 you can still pump out 6 years of tests, which is probably nearing 50 tests and a good career

Rogers played most of his Test career after 35 and averaged well over 40 for over 20 tests

Bit harsh to drop Webster, unless you are omitting him due to lack of match fitness and possibly not recovering from injury in time.

If Webster is good to go, I think you need to him as well to cover the al rounder role as at the minute Green’s body is failing him a bit.

As much as I agree you pick Labs, you have to, I don’t think you want to be relying on his sweet nothings as your fifth bowler.
