Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

I don't think we need to be signing blokes like Klemmer anymore to lead the young blokes.
Patty, Payne, Jensen and Willison are all premiership winning forwards now and their the guys you want the young blokes to follow.
The guys we should be looking at are ones like Talty who just need to be given that chance. They come a lot cheaper and they've got everything to gain.
I actually agree with the idea, unfortunately blokes like talty are very, very rare diamonds. We have 3 clubs in the qld cup, one of which won it, and we still had to look outside to find him.
Theres a reason they call stuff like that fairytale and they get asked 3000 times by reporters "can you believe it?"

How serious is this Jonah Pezet interest?

We will have a log jam of halves again if true.

Not against it considering how leveled this guy is, which you need in a HB IMO.

B.Hunt
Reynolds
Black
Walters
Mam
Rogers
Duffy
Anyone else I have missed

Hopefully very serious. Pez absolutely a talent. 100% should have been on the bench for storm in the gf. Also don’t discredit the relationship Braith and Madge have.
However, probably more likely for 2027 with the thoughts that Ben and Adam will retire at the end of 2026.
6. Mam
7. Pez
9. Walters/Mozer
14. Black (sitting in the wings)
Rogers goes, unsure what happens with Duffy depending on how he goes in 2026.
Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, I don’t expect we will be able to compete with the big offers Pez will get though, so will really depend what he wants with his next contract.
Parra also on the up, so wouldn’t be shocked to see him end up there.

And realistically, Black is only 19, I can't really see him in NRL next year unless something drastically changes. He's 2027 at the earliest for mine and even then, he'll be very green by NRL standards and I don't think Mam has the chops to run the team. Walsh maybe though, so it could work.

Hunt and Reynolds will likely only have a year left

Rogers won't get re-signed.

Billy will be coming back from an ACL and is a quality 14 anyway

Pezet would look at this side and see that even if he had to spend one more year on the bench (as he would in Melbourne), he would be well positioned to take control of premiership capable squad in 2027 (which wouldn't happen in Melbourne)

Even if he doesn’t reach the heights expected of him he’ll look like a genius just kicking well (his general play kicking can only improve learning off Arey) and giving early ball to Mam and Walsh

Would be happy with the kid. I read somewhere it was for 2027 and that's my only hesitation. I like that we are forward planning and I have no ****ing idea how a roster should be managed, but what if Black becomes our jet HB earlier than anticipated and we have Pezet on the books essentially playing reserve grade.

Other than that I think its a good move. Theres no guarantee walters comes back from an ACL in the right shape given hes in his 30s now. Reyno and Hunt due to retire etc as others have already said.

Unsubstantiated gossip however apparently Pezet was touring the club Wed/Thurs and was seen at a coffee joint in Paddo. Anyone know if that was actually true?
Hope you’re right. Although, Braith only got back from Bali on Thursday (confirmed). However, he does have a business partner so they could have toured with Pez.

Jesse Southwell also managed by Braith.

Anyone else signing with us isn't signing for the money. It's for the playing group.
Yeah, we're in a good spot atm as we have a young exciting team that has a "premiership window" for the next 5 years or so. We would be a very attractive destination for any up and comers and can lean into that the same way the likes of Melbourne and co have in the past.

Do you want dollars or rings? It's a bit of a dickhead test early on.

If the kid's interested in running a team that are going to be hot for a prem for the next few years, it's the Broncos. If anything ARey and Dozer are good mentors, but can at times be not the best players on the park.

Another couple of years into Walsh & Mam and those two will be ready to drive our great pack around (assuming we can hold it together).

Melbourne's Prem window slams shut next October. Once Bellyache is gone, that club is in for it.

Worst case scenario you release Pezet to another NRL team.

Clearly though if they're looking at Pezet and have signed Duffy for next year, the club is no longer confident that Black is the long term option at half back.

The club would be foolish to not sign Pezet if he was available. You can build a very successful Storm like squad around a spine of Walsh, Mam, Pezet supported by a pack lead by Patty and Payne

Plus Brisbane and QLD in general is booming..

Just watched the BTFU podcasst with Braith Anasta. Just from body language and tone when he said certain things I think he is a deadset likely chance of leaving the Storm and the 'other team" in the race for him was said in a way that they genuinely are in the race. If there was only limited interest from the Broncos and Pezet wasn't interested in joining I don't know think he would mention it. Is a 360 host and familiar with sensationalism, obviously a breaking news comment gets him some advertising space in papers and shit which is kind of smart I guess but still he would have to have his clients interests before his.

Storm
Obviously he is signed till the end of 29' with a get out clause for this year or should Munster resign with the club. More naturally a 7, and I personally can't see Munster leaving Melbourne for Perth (he hasn't been short a buck in his career, nor would he be going forward). Braith to me seemed pissed off with them and I think some of the selection stuff with Pezet come finals time rubbed them the wrong way. Bellamy likely to move to the Titans or Retire next year his pull factor is limited. Slater IMO is a tough ask to give up the life he has and Braith agrees demonstrating that this at the back of there minds as well. I think with a deal till 29' and so much uncertainty he will take the chance to leave now. The way Braith was speaking didnt seem like he was overly satisfied, If Braith isn't satisfied it means his client isn't, cant be off running your mouth about disappointing string of events if he was likely to stay put. The only reason there is noise is because he isnt content. He will be out the door.

Cows
Decent club, a strong spine and instant starting spot. The team has potential and its a good club with enough strike power, possibility of even playing 7 if he is a more natural 7 and Tom more naturally a 6. Townsville is a shithole which he has no attachments to, consistently underperforms and coaching uncertainty going forward. I won't rule them out but at the very least Parramatta is seeming more favourable.

Eels
Club on the rise that his dad previously played for. Good coach which he has a history with. Reasonably strong spine and excellent halves partner. Closer to home and a big club. Could definetely see Jonah at the Eels. Only concern is does he see himself more naturally as a 7 and is back end of last season enough to convince him that the Eels is somewhere he confidently wants to be.

Broncos
He'd have to wait a year with a likely fair few appearances throughout the season but afterwards he gets the Brisbane Broncos 7 jersey in a premiership window. Unreal spine, forward pack and assets around him. Obviously high level of competition with Duffy and Black there as well which might spook him. Somewhat familiar with south east qld and Brisbane obviously with Falcons and Tigers but yet again move closer to family might be in the back of his head.

If I was Jonah
1. Parra
2. Broncos
3. Storm
4. Cowboys

Unsettled at the Storm, Parra gives him a spot next year where his dad played, Broncos prospect would be great for him but he'd have to wait and uncertainty is there as well making them no real different from Melbourne, Cowboys is in Townsville (eww).

I think the Eels will get there man but they have there fair share of negatives that might push him in Broncos favour

Something going against the cows is uncertainty around Payten, but also their defence is well below average.

If defence isnt up to scratch then theyre not a premiership chance regardless of how much strike they have.

Broncos defence definitely needs work, but I think it was still 6th across the league, so not horrendous... and we also held storm and penrith to nil in second halves over the finals.

I think Cows were last across the league... or at least were sitting last with titans late in the season.

Parra have Ryles who is likely a defensive coach coming through the storm system, plus they'll be on the improve.

He would also get a few years next to Moses and when he's really hitting his peak years is probably when he takes over completely.
