Storm or GC should be straight on the phone to him.

Storm means they get a guy that is a couple years from first grade, which will align better with Munster and Hughes calling it... also means that Coby gets a crack at NSW Cup, which is generally a higher class of difficulty. Gets to be coached under Bellamy and within that storm system.

If he goes to GC then he would be under Hannay, who is meant to be one of the better up and coming coaches. He'd be straight into first grade and straight into the 7 jersey with Campbell, Kini and Brimson to work with... may or may not be good for him, but that's a decision for him to make and if he feels he's ready to go right away.

He'll basically become a very hot commodity on the market with Pezet now decided. He could head to any club that is looking for a long term 7... Souths could be an option and play alongside Latrell and under Wayne, Wahs if Metcalf leaves, etc.

I wouldn't be sold on heading to Nth Qld though... coaching is not stable up there, and they are keen on Dearden as the future at 7.

Dearden has played left side in his career to date (mostly because he wasn't the primary kicking half) so it wouldn't be hard for him to go back to that spot, but cows have chewed up and spat out Duffy... Purdue wants to head to market (but was ear marked as their future alongside Dearden), and Clifford was told to leave, but only seems to be staying up there because he doesn't want to leave Nth Qld.

It doesn't seem like they know what they want to do in the halves long term, so I'm not sure I'd want to head there as a young 7 looking for stability and a clear pathway. Drinkwater could pull the pin being a NSW'men (rorters looking for a Teddy replacement, Sharks looking for a strike fullback, etc.) and then suddenly they're looking in trouble.

Yup, it's rough. But at the end of the day, the club has got to make the right calls for the club as a whole and feedback from the likes of @1910 and others is that Black is just not NRL ready. He might click - but he's also 19, he's got a few years to go before he's really ready anyway. A lot could happen before 2028/29 when he's likely in the same position Pezet is now.

As long as he doesn't do the Storm flop after leaving, this looks on paper like an amazing win for us.

The question is ... Do you pass on signing the best young half in the game because you hope your home grown rookie can eventually live up to expectations

Or do you snap up the this young half and force your home grown player to fight for the position.

It's a cutthroat business. Sometimes it's not fair.

If you aren't showing signs you're ready for the step up when the club needs you, they have to move on. We need someone that's ready from 2027 onwards, that's Pezet. Black just isn't showing enough.

No doubt Pezet is wanting to join, because he's seeing Walsh, Patty, Payne and Ezra and thinking he wants to be part of that.

But he's also seeing Madge and thinking his game will develop under him... that's a huge positive for us. A coach that can draw top notch young talent, because they believe they can get better under them is the one of the biggest draw cards in recruitment and retention.

Sucks for Coby though... Titans should be straight on the phone with him as he's off contract for 2027.

Unfortunately, there’s no guarantees in any business out there and at the end of the day, the NRL is just that, a business. You can have a plan set out but sometimes it can change and the goal posts can move.

The fact they even were interested in Pezet shows that they aren’t 100% confident he can fill ARey’s shoes. We wouldn’t want another Rabbit’s debacle where they had all the pressure on Illias to replace ARey and it completely failed.

He’s still young and everything happens for a reason. Black will find a club who does want and need him, sadly maybe it’s just not at the broncos.
