Alot of ifs and buts but if pezet is working well for us you would be mad to change and he should get a fair price,it is in blacks hands now to go out and show next year why he should have that 7 jersey.

The hooker position is one im more keen to see play out have a feeling bukowski is going to beat mozer out for the broncos 9 in 2027

Unless Pezet stagnates to a ball shuffler I don't see him saying here long term(I think it's bad management paying proper 7 money for a player while we have Walsh who is basically a 1/7 hybrid), our Hooking stocks could be interesting, Mozer had a bad injury this year and honestly for me he was above Smoothy and Paix but behind Billy on the hooking stocks before it, who knows what happens with Bukowski.

He's also a NSW'men... every chance he gets linked to every Sydney team... but ultimately the broncos primary retentions for basically the next 10yrs are Reece, Patty and Payne.

Unless he gets a Qld missus in that time you can't expect them to say either way.

If he doesn't win the halfback position over Pezet, Black won't hang around for another 4 years playing as back-up, in the hope Pezet either doesn't perform or get's too expensive.

Very few players in the modern game would do what Pezet did at the Storm

Jeez he must be patient .

Pezet is signing on for 27 , 28, 29 .

How many 7s play out the back on sweep plays ?
Can`t set up the sweep play from half , then magically drop back 40 metres and tee up your back line for your pass if you are around the ruck .

Or he is a Reynolds type who comes here, loves the place, loves the city and doesn’t want to move anywhere else…

That is what Pezet has done, signed with the Storm August 2020- after a release from the Knights- (conveniently left off the poor Knights, poaching Storm narrative.)

Leaving November 2025.

he won't be a 19 game player by the time he gets to us.

Black is off contract end of next season, so he would have to re-sign knowing that his path is likely blocked for a minimum of 3 years ... not to mention that he would need to do it without the safety net clause that Pezet had in his contract
 
Black can sign somewhere else on November 1 for 2027. So, he's got a big decision to make. I imagine the Broncos wouldn't stand in his way in 2026 if he signed somewhere else for 2027 in a few weeks.

Pezet is going to join the Broncos with close to 50 NRL games, Hunt and Reynolds off contract in 2026, Mam signed up until 2029 and this time next year Black might still be on 0 NRL games and Duffy might even have played for the Broncos and had good games and be looking to re-sign.

Black hasn't even played a full season of Cup yet and certainly isn't demanding being picked- far from it but he's probably where Pezet was in 22 played Cup but looking ahead sees Hughes. Pezet re-signed with the Storm at the end of 22 until end of 25. So does Black sign again and see what happens when Hunt and Reynolds go or seek opportunity elsewhere now. If he sees how 2026 goes his value could go down or up for 2027. It only takes Reynolds and Hunt injured, Duffy taking a while to settle in and Black could be playing NRL if his Cup form is ok. He is 20 in May so the next contract is where you would want to be playing some NRL- which is what Pezet has just done.

Black is with Titan Management same as Mozer, so no clash there.

I don't think Black hangs around for four years either. However, in my view he is not likely to be an NRL half in next year or two and if he is going to sit as a backup everywhere then Broncos is as good as any with Hunt and Reynolds to work with.

I'm not saying he'll leave tomorrow.

while I don't see a top 4 team throwing him big coin, you can bet your bottom dollar that a desperate team will.

It is very rare to do an apprenticeship as long as Pezet. most young players aren't prepared to develop properly especially when a club offers bigger money and an NRL spot.

Even Walsh who is as dedicated and as talented as they come took the money and ran ... and he only had Isaako in front of him. I have no doubt 12 months in the QLD cup would have done him the world of good, and got him to where he is today sooner
 
The club will need to make a decision because we still need to have some depth in the halves as well.

Billy, Bhunt, Reyno, Rogers, Coby and Duffy all off contract end of next year.

If they all leave I think it's only Ezra and Pezet on contract for 2027 onwards??

I dont think it hurts Coby and/or Duffy to sign for another year if they're next inline at 7 or 6 from 2027 onwards.

Especially if Reyno becomes a halves coach with broncos after retiring. Very good chance of development in that kind of system.

If you then get some game time you can put yourself in the shop window for a big deal, but potentially have a choice of numerous clubs (just like Pezet did just this year) instead of signing with a desperate dargs, knights, etc. where your career dies before it starts
