OFFICIAL Coby Black to join Raiders in 2026, He's Gone

Seems a terrible decision by black and his management to rush a signing. Every chance Ethan sanders kills it in 2026 for Canberra and Black doesn’t get a run at all. With bears coming in 2027 and png in 2028, rushing a contract decision seems crazy

.I think that's pretty clear. Poorly managed. You only have to look at the difference in how Pezet has been handled. Black is 19 not 22.

People are already getting roasted by Braith on instagram trying to compare the two lol

I think Coby Black would have been fairly decent for us but as a whole package pezet definitely looks letter. Black seems to have a good kick game but lacks speed and creativity, which probably would have been fine for us given we have Ezra and Walsh.

Not sure if he will have a run at Canberra or not. They seem to really rate Sanders and Strange is one of the better 6s in the comp.

He should have at least waited until the season kicked off before signing, unless he is going to push for an early release which I’d be fine with if we can sign a half decent 2nd rower.

The most surprising development of this timeline is that I am finding myself like a Braith Anasta recently.

Spooky

don't worry ... as soon as NRL 360 starts up again things will go back to the status quo.

what's got me a little nervous is that i'll be watching Para play in 2026. I've got a prefectly good level of hate going for that club, and I don't want the fact that i'm hoping Pezet kills it to change that hate level, lol

Unless he is hoping to get released during pre season and join raiders immediately? If not, I’m surprised he made this decision now. Maybe they were thinking they wouldn’t get any offers next year, and they didn’t want to reject a club like the Raiders.

I would rather he gets an early release and starts his journey with them next season. For a guy with no first grade experience, it’s interesting they’re trusting him to be part of their main squad in ‘27. I hope he isn’t going to be put on the back burner when he gets there. Time will tell.

Or do we release him early, pray they pick him before he’s ready and hope he screws their season over?

I thought Black had potential but at the end of the day we need an NRL ready halfback for 2027 and can’t afford to risk throwing in a rookie at very early stages of development. Was hyped after the u19s game and other clips I’d seen but from all reports by people who watch QCup on here they weren’t convinced

Heard Pete Badel say he doesn’t think he’s the real deal, I know it’s a journo but you got to assume that he’s chatting with people at the club and that’s sentiment within the higher up’s.

Meanwhile Pezet has been under Bellamy, Munster & Hughes with 18 first grade games, won an QCup grand final and a full season next to Mitch Moses in 2026. Unfortunately for Black the timing just seems to have worked out perfectly for Pezet

This was a bit of a shock when I first heard but then I found myself realising that it's his decision (misguided though it may be) and that it's really not that big of a deal because for the first time in years we have stocks of players that must be the envy of every other club in the league. The weirdest thing is that I'm not overly worried about Payne joining the rah rah boys, he'll leave a gaping hole but we have the guys to step up and .. hey .. at least we won't have to try and play against the big fella.

The writing was on the wall when the Broncos signed Pezet.

The Broncos couldn't afford to get that decision on wrong and as it stands Pezet is a boon to their prospects.

Black has the tools to be an NRL level halfback and could very well go onto have a great career. The Raiders are a good landing spot for him and I think he'll relish the opportunity to play alongside a young up and coming team.

As far as his time at the Broncos, he seemed like a puppy with big paws. He had a great boot on him and had the odd moment of heads-up footy but it wasn't like he was the next Nathan Cleary. He wasn't even the best half of his age group coming through - that was Zane Harrison for the Titans.

I thought he played better when he went to the Magpies and played Cup but even then he was nowhere near ready for first grade. Coby has never been named in the extended squad and to be honest he's never deserved that opportunity.

He's still only 19 and he's worth a punt and I like the Raiders recruitment system but I don't think we've lost a Tom Dearden type player let me put it that way. Dearden was a clear stand-out who while extremely raw had the qualities of a champion and it was just bad timing.

Sorry just had to dry my eyes with my complimentary premiers napkin. When I was asked earlier where I'd rate Black in the grand scheme of things, I had him below a few players. Nio Verhoeven and Tupou Francis are the two prospects I see as potential stars. If they fail to materialise, I give you my blessing to bag me out @Nashy.
