For the record, I’ve never watched Black, and didn’t have any opinion in whether he stayed or went, but it seems that despite all his apparent hype, he never showed being even close to ready for NRL as opposed to others in his age group.
It could be that his ceiling is low and there’s not much improvement left and it was classic overhype the Broncos kid, or has it plateaued or even regressed because he hasn’t had suitable players or coaches around him? It shouldn’t be above the club to ask these questions of themselves, regardless of where they ultimately ended up on Coby.
I don’t know why people have this resistance to a single reserve grade side, Broncos named or not. NSW clubs have it, Storm are doing it now, NZ are doing it. To me it makes sense to have all our players in one spot so they can smoothly transition into first grade, especially now as we’re on the up. And it has come up again recently as something the Qld cubs might be considering
